EN LA PRIMERA ETAPA SE PRODUCE, POR DEGRADACION BACTERIANA, ACIDOS ORGANICOS DE CADENA CORTA, ALCOHOLES, ANHIDRICO CARBONICO E HIDROGENO; EN LA SEGUNDA ETAPA, LOS PRODUCTOS DE BAJO PESO MOLECULAR SON TRANSFORMADOS EN METANO Y ANHIDRIDO CARBONICO, POR BACTERIAS PRODUCTORAS DE METANO EN PROCESOS DE METABOLISMO BIOLOGICO. LA DEGRADACION TIENE LUGAR SEPARANDO PARTE DEL SUSTRATO QUE HA FERMENTADO A SU PASO POR EL SISTEMA REACTOR, HACIENDO CIRCULAR DE NUEVO POR EL SISTEMA REACTIVO, MEZCLANDOLO CON SUSTRATO FRESCO.
