Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform efficient composting treatment of wastes without increasing the amount of sludge to be handled by the procedure in which sludge is mixed with an artificial porous additive to improve its ventilating property and also to regulate its moisture content and then subjected to fermentation, and the artificial porous additive is separated from the compost obtained for reuse.
CONSTITUTION: Sewage sludge is mixed with a porous additive producible industrially, e.g., pumice stone or the like, plastics, etc., for regulating its moisture content and also for enhancing its ventilating property and then subjected to a fermentation treatment using aerobic microorganisms for composting, and porous additive is separated from the compost thus obtained by a specific gravity difference method or a grain size difference method for reuse as the porous additive.
