Abstract
In a double-walled horticultural conservatory or greenhouse, inner and outer metal framework members 2, 3 are covered by sheets of glass 4, 5 and spaced apart by stays 1 to define therebetween a space through which hot or cold air and/or water is circulated to produce and maintain the required temperature and hygrometric conditions within the greenhouse. The inner glass wall has a gap 6 at its apex, thus communicating the space with the inside of the conservatory. Pipes 7, 8 are situated adjacent the gap 6 to spray hot or cold water over the inner wall, this water being collected in tanks 10 for recirculation by pumps 9. Reversible fans 11 deliver air to or extract air from the conservatory through said space as required, to ensure suitable ventilation. Gas or oil burners (not shown) are provided to heat the water in the tanks 10, and the combustion gases from said burners may be passed into the space if required for additional heating. Thermostats and hygrostats automatically control the operation of the fans, pumps and burners to maintain the required conditions. The amount of light entering the conservatory can be reduced by spraying water tinged with colour into the space between the two glass walls. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the spraying pipes together with associated atomizing nozzles (81) are located adjacent the tanks (101). Air is introduced at this point and entrains some of the water, the moistened air then passing up through the space and into the conservatory.
