Abstract

1452265 Ventilating and heating dwellings THORN HEATING Ltd 6 Dec 1973 [8 Sept 1972] 41811/72 Headings F4V and F4W Apparatus for ventilating and heating a dwelling comprises a combustion heater having heating means 13, a fresh air inlet 6, a recirculated air inlet 7, at least one heated air outlet 9 connected to one or more outlets in the dwelling, a vitiated air and flue gases outlet 16, 17, a vitiated air inlet 18, a fan 5 for passing a mixture of fresh and recirculated air in heat exchange contact with heating means 13, a fan 22 in the outlet 16, 17, and a thermostat and a humidistat in the dwelling controlling respectively the operation of heating means 13 and fans 5, 22 and the operation of fan 22. Upon a demand for heating, fans 5, 22 and heating means 13 are actuated by the thermostat to delivery heated air to the dwelling and to exhaust flue gases and vitiated air through outlet 16, 17. Upon a demand for dehumidification, with no demand for heating, the humidistat actuates fan 22 to draw vitiated air through outlet 16, 17, and simultaneously to draw fresh air through inlets 6, 7 into the dwelling. The control effected by the thermostat is such as to override that effected by the humidistat. The vitiated air inlet 18 is defined by a down-draught diverter. A filter 8 is located in the inlet 7. The outlet 16, 17 may be provided with a further vitiated air inlet 23 which communicates with a cooker hood. The heating means 13 includes a combustion chamber and may be fired by gas, oil, or solid fuel. The arrangement of inlets 6 and 7 is such that 30% of the total volume of air drawn by fan 5 is fresh air.
