Abstract

848,876. Gas fires. SUGG & CO. Ltd., W. Aug. 23, 1956, No. 25831/56. Class 126. [Also in Group XIII] A gas fire having a burner B, Fig. 2, and radiant elements E, has an air heating unit comprising a vertically-extending metal box 1 having an inlet 2 for combustion products from the burner extending across its underside, and a chimney opening O, the box having a V-shaped baffle 3, Fig. 1, which diverts the products as shown by the arrows to the outlet O. Air flows by convection from the room through the inlet 15 and a duct 16 behind the fire and thence over the outside of the box and through a grille 17 back into the room. The inlet 2 for the combustion products is controlled by a cylindrical damper 8 connected through linkage to the valve controlling the flow of gas to the burner, so that the flow through the inlet is increased with increased flow of gas to the burner. The outflow from the box may be controlled by a damper 11. Specifications 731,579 and 808,358 are referred to.
