A gas-fired radiant heater having a heat exchanger 6 above the radiants 2 has a transparent heat-resistant canopy 9 secured to brackets 8 and extending across the upper part of the radiants 2 so as to prevent spillage of combustion products into the room and to guide them into the heat exchanger together with a limited flow of dilution air. The canopy 9 is of heat-resistant glass.
