In a gas range oven compartment 12 there are located a lower bake burner 14 and a higher broiler burner 16, and a continuous pilot burner assembly 80 located in ignition relation to burner 16 is supplied with uncontaminated primary air from a conduit 86 having an inlet 88 at or below the level of burner 14, this air having entered the compartment 12 through intakes 38 and 43. The burners are supplied with gas through conduits 62 and mixing tubes 60, and are situated below flame shields 24. An insulated panel 44 has a flue opening 46 in its upper end. The pilot burner 80 comprises a tube 82 supplied with primary air and gas through the conduits 86 and 96 respectively to a mixing chamber 92, the downstream end 135 of the tube being closed and the tube having a semi-circular port 84. The tube is pinched immediately adjacent the upstream end of the port and the gas/air mixture is directed partially out of port 84 by a raised portion 140 and partially to the closed end 134 along the bottom of tube 82 before emerging from the port in opposition to the first portion of the mixture. When burner 16 is to be ignited gas is supplied to a heater pilot burner 112 which is ignited by burner 80. A thermostatic element 116 is then heated which causes a valve to open a supply of gas to the burner 16, which supply is ignited by burner 80. This ignition procedure may also be applied to burner 14.
