EL PROPILENO SE CONVIERTE EN OXIDO DE PROPILENO A TRAVES DE UN PROCESO DE OXIDACION EN FASE DE VAPOR EN QUE SE HACE USO DE UN CATALIZADOR DE PLATA SOPORTADO SOBRE UN CARBONADO DE METALES ALCALINO - TERREOS Y QUE CONTIENE TANTO UNA SAL DE POTASIO COMO NITRATO DE POTASIO Y UN PROMOTOR DE MOLIBDENO. LA SAL DE POTASIO Y EL PROMOTOR DE MOLIBDENO SE PUEDEN SUMINISTRAR SIMULTANEAMENTE MEDIANTE EL USO DE UNA SAL DE POTASIO DE UN OXIANION DE MOLIBDENO. LA EFICIENCIA DEL PROCESO AUMENTA ENORMEMENTE CON LA INCLUSION SIMULTANEA DE DIOXIDO DE CARBONO Y UN HALURO ORGANICO EN LA CORRIENTE DE ALIMENTACION. LA CORRIENTE DE ALIMENTACION NO NECESITA CONTENER UNA ESPECIE DE OXIDO DE NITROGENO TAL COMO NO PARA CONSEGUIR UNA ALTA SELECTIVIDAD AL OXIDO DE PROPILENO.
