Abstract

The joint has first and second pins (4,4') attached to two adjoining links (2,2'). Connecting elements (3') join the two pins together. The joint is completely covered by a plate (1) which also covers the edges (10,10') of the adjacent links, regardless of their rotation. The cover plate is held in place by an insert (5) which fits between the two pins and grips them. The pins are connected to the two links by passing through holes (12') in lugs (11',13'). The connecting elements which join them together are in the form of pierced sleeves with holes for both pins.

Description

The present invention relates to a hinge device between two links making up a non-extendable bracelet, said device comprising first and second pins attached, the first to a first link, the second to a second link facing the first, and connecting members connecting said first and second pins.

There is already known an articulation device corresponding to the generic definition given above. Document CH-A-661,184 describes links each consisting of an upper shell and a lower shell. Blind holes receive two spring bars per link. The articulation between two links therefore consists of two bars connected together by connecting flanges which are pieces of cut and folded sheet metal. This device has the drawback of not hiding from view the location of the joint and of being fragile by the use of a sheet which can break by fatigue.

To avoid these drawbacks and to propose an articulation system of high technical quality, the articulation device according to the invention is characterized in that it is entirely covered by a cap surrounding the links, the cap also covering at least the edges of said links whatever the angle of rotation thereof, this cap being held in place by an insert passing therethrough and coming to lock between the first and second pins.

The invention will be described below, by way of example and with reference to the drawing which illustrates it in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a top view of the articulation device according to the invention, a view in which the upper part of the cap has been cut,
  • FIG. 2 is a top view showing separately all the elements used to form the joint of FIG. 1, with the exception of the insert,
  • FIGS. 3 and 4 are top views respectively of a first and of a second embodiment of the insert suitable for holding the cap in place,
  • FIG. 5 is a side view of the articulation device according to the invention, cut along the line VV of FIG. 1,
  • FIG. 6 is a side view showing separately the elements used to form the joint of FIG. 5, with the exception of the insert,
  • FIGS. 7 and 8 are side views respectively of a first and of a second embodiment of the insert,
  • FIG. 9 is a front view of the articulation device according to the invention, cut along the line IX-IX of FIG. 1,

  • FIGS. 11 and 12 are front views respectively of a first and of a second embodiment of the insert,
  • FIG. 13 is a top view of a portion of assembled bracelet, and
  • Figure 14 is a bottom view of a portion of assembled bracelet.

Enfin les figures 1, 5 et 9 montrent que la coiffe 1 est maintenue en place par un insert 5 qui traverse la coiffe par une ouverture 19 et vient se cranter entre les première et seconde goupilles 4 et 4'.Referring now to Figure 1, we see the hinge device according to the invention which essentially comprises a first link 2 to which is attached a first pin 4 and a second link 2 'to which is attached a second pin 4 '. The first link 2 with its pin 4 faces the second link 2 'with its pin 4'. Pins 4 and 4 'are connected together by means of connecting members 3 and 3'. FIG. 1 also shows that the articulation device is entirely covered by a cap 1, cut in this figure so that only the lateral parts of said cap are visible. The cap 1 completely surrounds the links 2 and 2 'and at least the edges 10 and 10' thereof, which appears better on the sections of Figures 1 and 5. Figure 5 shows more particularly than the edges 10 and 10 'of the links 2 and 2' are covered by the cover 1 whatever the angle of rotation of the links 2 and 2 '. Finally, FIGS. 1, 5 and 9 show that the cap 1 is held in place by an insert 5 which passes through the cap through an opening 19 and is notched between the first and second pins 4 and 4 '.

The articulation device which has just been described in its generality will be repeated in a similar manner for all the other articulations of the bracelet to give the finished appearance of the bracelet shown in Figures 13 and 14. Figure 13 is a top view of a portion of this bracelet, that which is apparent to the eye. We see a regular succession of caps 1 and links 2 and 2 ', the caps surmounting the links and giving the bracelet a new aesthetic appearance. Caps and links can be made from a wide variety of materials, for example stainless steel or gold. We could alternate these materials, for example using steel for the links 2 and gold for the caps 1 and thus obtain a two-tone bracelet with the most beautiful effect. Synthetic materials could also be used, composites containing carbon fibers for example. Figure 14 is a bottom view of the assembled bracelet, that which is against the wrist of the wearer. We see in this figure, in addition to the links 2 and the caps 1 already mentioned, the inserts 5 or 6 serving to block the caps 1, these inserts being naturally hidden from view.

We will now describe in more detail a preferred embodiment of the articulation device according to the invention. We will use for this, not only Figures 1, 5 and 9 already cited, but also Figures 2, 6 and 10 which respectively show, top, side and front views of the elements used to form the device. joint.

As is clearly apparent in FIGS. 1 and 2, the first link 2 is provided with first and second ears 11 and 11 'arranged substantially at the ends of said link 2. These ears 11 and 11' are pierced respectively with holes 12 and 12 'passed through by the first pin 4. Similarly, the second link 2 'is provided with first and second ears 13 and 13' arranged substantially at the ends of said link 2 '. The ears 13 and 13 'are respectively pierced with holes 14 and 14' crossed by the second pin 4 '. Connecting members connect the pins together. These members consist of first and second sleeves 3 and 3 'each pierced with a first hole 15 and 15' which are crossed by the first pin 4 and a second hole 16 and 16 'which are crossed by the second pin 4 '. These sleeves 3 and 3 'are located between the first and second ears referenced respectively 11, 13 and 11', 13 'and bear against them. In the space left free between the sleeves 3 and 3 ′ is housed the insert which has already been discussed, this insert coming to lock between the first and second sleeves 3 and 3 ′ to fix the cover 1 on the device d articulation, as will be explained below.

It is planned to offer this insert according to two embodiments, a first mode known as non-removable and a second mode known as removable. In both cases the insert has an oblong shape and passes through a hole 19 made under the cover 1. This hole 19 has the same oblong shape as the insert, the latter being fitted with a stop collar 20 resting under the cover 1 (see for example FIGS. 11 and 12). These two modes of execution will now be described in detail.

The non-removable insert is illustrated in Figures 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 14. It bears the reference 5 and is made in one piece. As mentioned above, the insert 5 has an oblong shape whose elongated direction X (see FIGS. 9 and 11) occupies the space left free between the first and second sleeves 3 and 3 '. As FIGS. 5 and 7 clearly show, the upper part 21 of the insert 5 is elastic, this elasticity being given to it by a groove 30 formed in said upper part 21. As FIGS. 5 and 7 clearly show, this part upper 21 is provided with first and second elongated cells 22 and 23 which turn their backs. As can be seen in FIG. 5, these cells 22 and 23 are arranged and dimensioned to snap into the first and second pins 4 and 4 'respectively when the insert 5 is fully inserted under the cap 1. This system is non-removable in the sense that it is very difficult to extract the insert 5 without damaging it, even if this insert is made of plastic. This embodiment will therefore be reserved for the part of the bracelet which does not need to be shortened or lengthened.

The removable insert is illustrated in Figures 4, 8, 12 and 14 and can replace the non-removable insert illustrated in Figures 1, 5 and 9. As shown in Figures 4, 8 and 12, this insert is made in two parts: a cover 6 of oblong shape fitting in the hole 19 of the cover 1 with its support flange 20 and two screws 7 and 7 'passing through this cover 6 in the direction of the arrows B. As can be seen in the figures 4, 8 and 12, the screws 7 and 7 'have a cylindrical head 31 and 31' capable of adjusting in the bore 32 of the cover 6, the head being provided with a stop collar 33 and a slot 34 capable of receiving a screwdriver. The upper portion 24 of each screw 7 and 7 'has the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped which is provided with first and second cells 25 and 26 as is well shown in Figures 8 and 12. These cells 25 and 26 turn their backs (Figure 8). The dimensions of the parallelepiped are arranged in such a way that, when the screws are in a determined position, they pass freely between the first and second pins 4 and 4 'while they lock in place by their first and second cells 25 and 26 respectively in the first and second pins 4 and 4 ', when the screws are turned a quarter of a turn, for example in the direction of the arrows E.

If we now refer more particularly to the device presented in section in FIG. 5 and to the elements making up this device presented in FIG. 6, we can see that the sleeve 3 ′ (as well as the sleeve 3 not shown in these figures ) is provided with first and second walls 17 and 18 which face the wall 40 of the link 2, as well as with first and second walls 17 'and 18' which face the wall 40 'of the link 2'. As can be clearly seen in FIG. 5, these walls 17, 17 'and 18, 18' have a configuration - here two planes forming an obtuse angle - limiting the angle of rotation of the links 2 and 2 '. Thus, in FIG. 5 is shown a link 2 in the extreme upward position, the wall 40 of the link 2 coming to bear against the wall 17 of the sleeve 3 '. From this position, the link 2 can only move down in the direction of the arrow F. This figure similarly shows a link 2 'in the extreme down position, the wall 40' of the link 2 ' coming to rest against the wall 18 'of the sleeve 3'. From this position, the link 2 'can only move upwards, in the direction of the arrow G. The arrangement which has just been described makes it clear that the angle of rotation of the links 2 and 2' is given by the sleeves 3 and 3 'so that the stopping force is carried on the links 2 and 2 'and not on the cover 1 which is therefore not mechanically stressed.

If we refer again to Figures 5 and 6, we note that the holes 12 'and 14' drilled in the ears 11 'and 13' of the links 2 and 2 'are oblong. The same goes for the holes 12 and 14 drilled in the ears 11 and 13 not shown here. The figures also show that the elongated dimension of the oblong shape of the holes is directed in the thickness direction of the links 2 and 2 '. This shape is important, because it will be understood that in addition to the rotation of the link around the pin to which it is attached, the link is capable of moving vertically, in the direction of the thickness of the bracelet, which considerably reduces the day between the links and the cap that covers them. This is illustrated in FIG. 5. It can be seen that the link 2 on the left has, with respect to the cap, roughly equal days on the top and on the bottom of the link. The pin 4 is then in contact with the top of the oblong hole 12 '. With regard to the link 2 ′ on the right, its lower part touches the cap, while its upper part has one day relative to the cap which is approximately twice what is shown on the left of the figure. The pin 4 'is then in contact with the bottom of the oblong hole 14'. In summary this arrangement allows a maximum angle of rotation of the links for a minimum day between links and cap.

Finally, we will give some indications concerning the mounting of the articulation device. We can then refer to Figure 2. We provide first and second links 2 and 2 ', first and second pins 4 and 4', first and second sleeves 3 and 3 'and a cap 1. We introduce, by the left of the figure the pin 4 in the ear 11 until it emerges enough to slide the sleeves 3 and 3 'through their holes 15 and 15'. We finish the introduction of the pin 4 in the ear 11 'through the hole 12' of this hear. We approach this pre-assembly of the link 2 'to align the holes 13 and 13' of this link 2 'with the holes 16 and 16' of the sleeves 3 and 3 '. The pin 4 'is introduced into the holes thus aligned. The cap 1 is slid onto the assembly thus produced until the opening 19 of this cap is centered on the pins 4 and 4 ′. The pins are then trapped in the cover 1. Through the opening 19, the sleeves are pushed, one to the right, the other to the left, so that they come to bear respectively on the ears of the links (see Figures 1 and 9). . We insert the insert 5 (Figures 3, 7 and 11) through the opening 19, until its cells 22 and 23 are notched on the pins 4 and 4 '. The assembly is then finished.

If we choose the other type of insert execution, that shown in Figures 4, 8 and 12, we start by fully inserting the cover 6 into the opening 19. We introduce the screws 7 and 7 'in the holes 32 of the cover 6 so that the short side A of these screws passes between the pins 4 and 4 '. By means of a screwdriver these screws are turned a quarter of a turn, this action having the effect of notching the cells 25 and 26 of said screws in the pins 4 and 4 '. It has already been said that this embodiment is removable. For this, it suffices to turn the screws 7 and 7 'a new quarter turn, which has the effect of separating the cells 25 and 26 from the pins 4 and 4', which makes it possible to remove the screws 7 and 7 ' , then cover 6.

It will also be noted, see for example FIG. 9, that the insert 5 (or the cover 6) also has the function of preventing the sleeves 3 and 3 ′ from moving laterally, these sleeves themselves fixing the cover 1. In this way, a constant day can be guaranteed between the cover 1 and the links 2 and 2 '.
