Description

Es ist schon mehrfach versucht worden, die Behandlung' von vegetabilischen Fasern und der Kunstprodukte aus Cellulose mit Alkalien, wie sie z. B. bei der Mercerisation ausgeübt wird, durch Zusätze zu verbessern. Zu diesem Zwecke werden Seifen, Türkischrotöle, Alkohole und andere Stoffe vorgeschlagen. Diese Zusätze sind aber nur von geringer Wirkung; um einen befriedigenden Effekt zu erzielen, müssen daher unverhältnismäßig große Mengen derselben angewandt werden, wodurch die Arbeitsweise unwirtschaftlich wird. So ist z. B. ein Zusatz von 20 bis 3o0/0 Alkohol zur Mercerisierungslauge nötig, um ein rohes, unentschlichtetes Baumwollgewebe ohne vorherige Bäuche in brauchbarer Weise zu mercerisieren.
Es wurde nun die neue und überraschende Beobachtung gemacht, daß mit Hilfe von geringen Mengen eines Gemisches von Phenolen und hydrierten Phenolen, das der Alkalisierungsflüssigkeit zugesetzt wird, eine viel raschere und gleichmäßigere Eimvirkung des Alkalis auf die Faser z. B. bei der Mercerisation erreicht wird. Mit Hilfe dieser Zusätze lassen sich rohe, unentschlichtete Baumwollgewebe ohne vorherige Bäuche mercerisieren, bei denen ohne diese Zusätze kein gleichmäßiger Effekt zu erhalten wäre.
Als hydrierte Phenole eignen sich. z. B. Cyclohexanol, Methylcyclohexanole, hydrierte Naphthole bzw. deren Gemische. Als Phenole kommen das Phenol, dann besonders die Kresole bzw. Kresolgemische und die höheren
Homologen in Betracht.
Zur Ausführung des Verfahrens eignen sich am besten Gemische aus 2 bis I2°/O hydrierten Phenolen und 98 bis 880/0 Phenolen.. Doch soll damit nicht gesagt sein, daß Gemische, deren Zusammensetzungen außerhalb dieser Grenzen liegen, unbrauchbar wären.
Die Wirkung dieser Zusätze trifft überraschenderweise schon in relativ geringen Mengen (etwa 1 bis 2% der Gemische in bezug auf das Gewicht der Lauge) ein und beruht auf einer ganz unerwartet starken Er- ( höhung der Netzfähigkeit der vegetabilischen Fasern. Diese starke Steigerung ist um so unerwarteter, als weder die hydrierten Phenole noch die Phenole allein eine merkliche Erhöhung der Netzfähigkeit herbeiführen, sie kommt lediglich den Gemischen dieser Verbindungen zu. Diese erhöhte Netzfähigkeit vegetabilischer Fasern bewirkt nicht nur eine raschere Einwirkung der Alkalien, sondern auch eine größere Gleichmäßigkeit des Effekts.
Phenol ist für sich allein auch schon als Zusatz zu Mercerisierungslaugen vorgeschlagen worden. Phenol und Kresole besitzen aber an sich kaum ein nennenswertes Netzvermögen, und im vorliegenden Verfahren spielen sie bzw. die Alkaliphenolate und -kresolate lediglich die Rolle von Lösungsvermittlern für die hydrierten Phenole. Nach einem anderen Verfahren werden niedrigmolekulare Alkohole dazu benutzt, um höher molekulare Alkohole in Mercerisierungslaugen in Lösung zu halten. Gegenüber den im vorliegenden Verfahren angewandten Phenolen bzw. Alkaliphenolaten besitzen die
niedrigmolekularen Alkohole als Lösungsvermittler ;_ wesentliche- Nachteile. Infolge ihrer Brennbarkeit sind sie weniger betriebssicher, als' es bei den Mischungen des vor-.
liegenden Verfahrens der Fall ist, und für eine dauernde Verwendung sind sie viel zu flüchtig, was besonders beim Arbeiten in der Wärme ins Gewicht fällt. Die Wirkung der bekannten vorerwähnten Mischungen erschöpft sich auf Grund dieser Flüchtigkeit sehr viel rascher, als es bei den Mischungen gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung der Fall ist. Die besondere Kombination von Phenol und Kresolen mit hydrierten Phenolen stellt infolge der erzielten Unschädlichkeit, Betriebssicherheit und Dauerwirkung gegenüber den älteren Verfahren zweifellos einen technischen Fortschritt dar.

Zu einer Mercerisierlauge von 360 Be wer-, den 11I2 0I0 eines Gemisches von 9i°/0 Kresolgemisch und 9°/o Methyl cyclohexanolgemisch ' zugesetzt. Ein unentschlichtetes, rohes Baumwollgewebe wird nach wenigen Augenblicken so imprägniert, daß es untersinkt; das Gewebe schwebt auf der gleichen Mercerisierlauge ohne Zusatz stundenlang, ohne benetzt zu werden.
. Beispiel 2
Durch eine Mercerisierlauge der oben angegebenen Stärke, der 11I2 0I0 eines Gemisches von 8°/0 Dekahydro-ß-naphthol und 92°/0 Kresolgemisch zugesetzt sind, wird ebenfalls ■ eine sehr viel raschere Imprägnierung eines unvorbehandelten Baumwollmaterials erreicht als mit der gleichen Lauge ohne Zusatz.

Ein Gewebe aus Viscose von verschiedenen Partien wird durch eine Natronlauge von 20° Be, der I1J2 0I0 eines Gemisches von 90% Kresolgemisch und io°/0 Methylcyclohexanolgemisch zugesetzt sind, gezogen und abgequetscht, Das so behandelte Gewebe ist viel gleichmäßiger anfärbbar als ohne diese Behandlung.

Claims (3)

Patentansprüche:
1. Verfahren zur Erhöhung der Netzfähigkeit von Mercerisierlaugen unter Verwendung von Phenolen und hydrierten aromatischen Verbindungen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man der Lauge Gemische von Phenolen mit hydrierten Phenolen zusetzt.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Phenole z. B. Phenol, Kresole, Kresolgemische sowie deren höhere Homologen zur Anwendung gelangen und als hydrierte Phenole z.B. Cyclohexanol, Methylcyclohexanole, hydrierte Naphthole bzw. deren Gemische.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 und 2, gekennzeichnet durch die Verwendung von Gemischen aus etwa 2 bis I2°/O hydrierten Phenolen und 98 bis 88°/0 Phenolen, von denen man etwa 1 bis 2°/0, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Lauge, zusetzt.
