Cover glass for the light opening of headlights.

In the case of the cover glasses for headlights, which consist of long, narrow glass strips, the individual glass strips are divided lengthwise into short lamellae that are secured in their position, in order to prevent the glass strips from breaking as a result of the significant air pressure that suddenly occurs when large guns are fired. These lamellas are held in place by means of transverse rods inserted within the mounting ring of the cover glass. The division of the glass strips has the disadvantage that the resulting lamellae have different shapes: nine and often more different shapes of glass lamellae are present in a cover glass divided in this way.

For this reason, a large number of spare lamellae must be in stock in order to have a suitable replacement immediately in the event of a lamella breaking. In addition to this disadvantage, the closing glass also has the disadvantage that significant light losses cannot be avoided due to the arrangement of the wide cross rails.

It has now also been proposed, in order to reduce the diversity of the shape of the glass lamellae forming the cover glass to a minimum, to assemble the cover glass from the same sectors. As a result, however, very long pieces of glass and a large number of fastening rails are obtained, which cause significant light losses.

These disadvantages of the known designs are now avoided according to the invention in that the cover glass consists of a core part and a rim and the known designs are used simultaneously in the cover glass in such a way that the core part
