Description

Process for the production of high quality crucible bars.
The previous process of crucible steel production results in excellent steels, but only with the use of correspondingly high-quality raw materials. It has also already been proposed to load the crucibles with optionally briquetted sponge iron.
In contrast, the invention makes it possible to produce high-quality crucible steels from relatively low
EMI1.1
because the crucible cracks when using sponge iron for this purpose, while it has no cracks when using this special iron. In this iron there are more or less earthy or mineral additions. When the method is carried out, the most complete possible separation of gangue and oxide from the metallic iron is therefore advantageously brought about by mechanical cleaning.
This separation of gangue and oxides from the metallic iron prevents the formation of slag, which destroys the crucible. Briquetting the metallic iron prevents the crucible from bursting, which inevitably occurs when using powdery or finely divided loading.
