Abstract

Una fibra óptica que comprende: una guía de onda óptica que comprende un núcleo de vidrio rodeado por un revestimiento de vidrio; un recubrimiento que rodea a dicha guía de onda óptica que comprende un material polimérico que comprende un poliéster curado obtenido por: (a) esterificación de un reactivo (A) seleccionado de ácidos carboxílicos, triglicéridos, y mezclas de estos, que tienen una cadena alifática C₁₆₋₂₄ que comprende al menos dos enlaces dobles conjugados, con un reactivo (B) seleccionado de polioles que tienen al menos 3 grupos hidroxilo, los polioles son térmicamente estables hasta 300ºC; (b) curado del poliéster así obtenido, en presencia de una sal de un metal de transición, el metal de transición es seleccionado de Mn, Fe, Co, Cu y Ni. Preferentemente, el paso de curado es un curado térmico, preferentemente hasta 300ºC. La sal del metal de transición actúa como acelerador de curado, es decir, aumenta la velocidad de curado de modo de adaptarse a la velocidad de estirado de la fibra óptica, la temperatura del vidrio que sale del paso de estirado y la altura de la torre de estirado usada comúnmente en las plantas industriales para la producción de fibra óptica.
