It is possible to find plenty of archaeological evidence that proves information
on agricultural production, carried out in the areas that were made effective for
agriculture in the Olba territory during the Ancient Period. Present data proves
that especially olive and grape cultivation became prominent in the area where
agricultural production were carried out. Besides the factors that indicate olive
and grape cultivation, there are also threshing floors-which have not been studied
very well until today- that prove the existence of cereal production in the area.
Threshing floors can be seen in settlements of various sizes and in farms located at
certain spots of the agricultural areas in the territory. By selecting certain examples
the context of this study researches the construction features and the importance
of threshing floors within the agricultural production in the Olba territory; datings
are also suggested for threshing floors with support of some archaeological data.
Specifically, two samples are important in providing valuable data for dating. These
samples point out to the thresing floors starting to appear in the Hellenistic Period.

Korykos in Rough Cilicia, the roots of which date back to the Hellenistic period underwent a dramatic urban change in the Roman Imperial period, when the cities of Cilicia were provided with public buildings such as colonnaded streets, monumental gateways, temples and baths. During the second half of second and the early third centuries A.D., Korykos was furnished with a monumental gateway (‘North Gate’) marking the entrée of a sumptuous colonnaded street, the topographical and architectural characteristics of which are described in the following article.

The architectural remains of the Hellenistical period in Korykos which are scattered around at the centre of the settlement, at the slopes and at the 'hinterland' are clues of a big quantity of population and of important constructive developments. The following settlements of later periods and the modern destructions though have lead to the fact that traces of architecture, especially at the centre of Korykos vanished except for a fortification, towers and tombs constructed in polygonal masonary technique. The quality of the masonary technique shows that there must have been other remarkable architectural monuments in Korykos. During the 2nd century B.C it was the general characteristics of the Olbian Region, in which also Korykos took part, to construct in polgonal masonary; the observation that Korykos followed the same tradition reflects that the settlement was part of the arcihtectural dynamics of the region during the same century. The towers with polygonal masonary, threshing-floors, cisterns and tombs which are parts of an agricultural construction reflect the agricultural organisation which must have surrounded the settlement during the Hellenistic period.

Korykos'un Hellenistik dönemde önemli oranda iskân gördüğüne, kentte mimari açıdan önemli gelişmeler kaydedildiğine dair kanıtları, kent merkezinde, kenti çevreleyen yamaçlarda ve kentin etkileşim alanında rastlanan mimari kalıntılarda görmekteyiz. Ancak sonraki dönemlerde gerçekleşen yapılaşmalar ve tahri-batlar, özellikle kent merkezinde Hellenistik döneme ait mimari kalıntıların oldukça sınırlı oranda günü-müze ulaşmasına neden olmuştur. Kent merkezinin Hellenistik dönemde sahip olduğu yapılar hakkında her ne kadar yeterli veri bulunmasa da, günümüzde görülebilen polygonal duvar örgüsüne sahip sur, kule-ler ve mezarların işçiliklerindeki nitelik, Hellenistik Korykos'ta nitelikli başka yapıların da bulunduğunu düşündürmektedir. MÖ 2. yüzyılda Olba Bölgesi genelinde, belirleyici özelliği polygonal duvar işçiliği olan yoğun bir imar sürecinin yaşanması ve Korykos'ta da bu mimari biçimin çok sayıda örneğinin belirlenmesi, aynı yüzyıl içerisinde kentte mimari bir hareketliliğin söz konusu olduğunu göstermektedir. Korykos'un yakın çevresinde karşılaşılan polygonal duvar işçiliğine sahip kule, pres, harman yeri, sarnıç ve mezarlardan olu-şan tarımla ilgili yapılanmalar ise, Hellenistik dönemde kentle bağlantılı, kentin etrafını kuşatan bir tarım-sal organizasyonun varlığını ortaya koymaktadır.

Karadag (Boratinon Oros) is located 17 km north of Karaman, between
Çumra and Karaman plains and the Hotamış Swamp. Karadag is an
extinct volcanic mountain that extends in the northeast-southwest
direction and consists of several small hills outside the main mass. It is
under stood that Karadag, which has borders in the Lycaonia Region in
antiquity, has been inhabited since the early periods due to the fertile lands
on both the main mass and the surrounding area. Th e existing remains
indicate that the region was undergoing intensive zoning activities during
the Roman and especially early Christian periods. There are also numerous
archaeological and epigraphical evidence related to agricultural production
in Karadag and in the surrounding regions. Grape presses, weight stones,
millstones (metas and catilluses), reliefs and inscriptions are among these
remains. These archaeological and epigraphic materials reveal that grape
and grain production was carried out intensively during the Roman and
Early Christian periods in the region.
In this study, focused on clarify the previously unrecognized aspect
of Karadag and its surroundings by evaluating the archaeological and
epigraphic remains.

Elaiussa Sebaste’nin mimari acidan en zayif oldugu Severuslar doneminde, sadece dort km. batisindaki Korykos’un (diger pek cok Kilikia kenti gibi) en zengin donemini yasiyor olmasi oldukca dusundurucu bir noktadir. Septimius Severus doneminde iki asirlik dev bir metropol olan ve o tarihe kadar bolgenin baskenti durumundaki Elaiussa Sebaste, M.S. 2. yy. sonlarindan itibaren kuculmeye baslamis; mutevazi bir yerlesim olan Korykos ise ayni donemde buyuk bir kent olmus ve tum bolgenin ekonomik merkezi haline gelmistir. Farkli arkeolojik kanitlarla desteklenen bu tespitin en onemli dayanaklarindan biri, Elaiussa Sebaste’de tapinak mezar geleneginin Antoninuslar donemi sonlarinda ortadan kalkmis olmasidir. Korykos’ta ise bu ve benzeri mezar anitlarina en fazla Severuslar doneminde rastlanmaktadir. Yine Severuslar donemine tarihlenebilen mimari buluntu sayisi Elaiussa Sebaste’de yok denecek kadar azken, Korykos ve Kilikia’nin diger kentleri bu evrede en zengin donemlerini yasamistir. Elaius...

Antik dönemden günümüze ulaşan çeşitli tiplerdeki üzüm presleri, kentin sahip olduğu topraklarda üzüm üretiminin önemli oranda yer tuttuğuna işaret etmektedir. Çalışma kapsamında, kentin yakın civarında ve hinterlandında tespit edilen üzüm presleri çeşitli özelliklerine göre sınıflandırılmak suretiyle ayrıntılı olarak incelenmektedir. Ayrıca antik dönemde kent çevresindeki tarımsal üretim üzerine değerlendirmelerde bulunulmaktadır. Çalışma, ilk defa olarak sunulan kalıntıları ve antik kentin bilinmeyen bir yönüne ışık tutan yeni bilimsel sonuçları içermesi dolayısıyla önem taşımaktadır.

Eirenopolis, one of the cities of the Isaurian Region, is located within the borders of the Çatalbadem neighbourhood of Kazancı town of Ermenek district in Karaman province. Th e ruins of the ancient city spread over Topraktepe and extends to the south and southwest of the hill. This study will be a contribution of the agricultural production in the region, evaluating a wine workshop and a rock-cut wine press found in the territory of Eirenopolis. The workshop is located 3,5 km south of the city, and composes of a place carved into a huge rock block and a rock-cut wine press inside of it. It is important for being the only workshop which was carved into the bedrock, found in this region so far. On the other hand, the rock-cut wine press located 2,5 km to the south of the city is an excellent example of the press-arm presses that were dug into the bedrock in the open area, which is frequently encountered in the region. Th e cross motifs on both sides the workshop walls and the rock-cut wine press provide information on dating. Within the scope of this article, information about the workshop and the rock-cut wine press will be given. In addition to this, based on the historical and archaeological data, the proposals for dating will be made.
