However, the development of AI applications quite often follows a traditional, closed, and product-oriented approach. This study aims to introduce the platform model and ecosystem thinking to the development of AI-enabled smart buildings. The study identifies the needs for a user-oriented digital service ecosystem and business model in the smart building sector in Finland, which aimed to facilitate the launch of scalable businesses and an experiential and dynamic business ecosystem. Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to model the effect of alternative products in motivating consumers’ e-service switching behavior in the context of the social network game (SNG) industry. In particular, the effects of both alternative attractiveness and change experience on switching behavior are quantified.Design/methodology/approach– With the aid of a leading e-service provider in China, 220,000 questionnaires were distributed to the players of a SNG. Valid responses from potential switching users are included in the data analysis. Structural equation modeling technique is utilized to test the research framework.Findings– The study found that alternative attractiveness negatively affects both the perceived service quality and individual users’ satisfaction with their current SNG. In this chapter, our purpose is to illustrate the complexity of the outcomes of technological change and the concerns of regulators in the European gambling markets. In 2002, the Finnish Betting and Tipping Company, Veikkaus, estimated, that Finns’ Internet gambling decreased its turnover of betting by 10%. Such leakage is a reason why politicians in different states are considering imposing restrictions of online gambling to other parties of the gambling process, such as Internet service providers, banks, and credit card companies. On the other hand, one possible way to caulk the leakage could be to improve the returns of the players, but this has an adverse effect on the social and political objectives of preventing excessive gambling. The recent Gambelli case further indicates that such restrictions might not be considered proportionate and, thus, are against EU law. A unified, advanced client/server system was needed due to the merging of three companies into a bigger regional company, keener competition, and the growing complexity of the services provided. The system is tailor-made to meet the needs of the industry and it was developed by a software vendor in close cooperation with the nation-wide alliance of regional telephone companies. This study illustrates the difficulties in simultaneously aligning an organization and implementing a new information system. Views on the skills and competence needed in using the system vary, and lead to the negligence of education and training. It has long been a challenge for online game providers that, after playing a game for a certain period of time, online game players frequently switch to alternative games without much hesitation. Current IS continuance theories, that are mainly developed to interpret user continuance of general utilitarian IS, are ineffective to interpret user continuance of hedonic IS. In this study, based on the uses and gratifications theory, a hedonic IS continuance model is developed by incorporating three sorts of gratifications, namely hedonic gratification (enjoyment, fantasy and escapism), social gratification (social interaction and social presence) and utilitarian gratification (achievement and self-presentation). Age and gender are the moderating factors in the model. Based on 3919 validated respondents, the research model is assessed while a number of interesting findings are reported.

The companies are actively using business modelling to investigate new business opportunities. They are also applying various planning tools to design their processes. Unfortunately, there is a lack of techniques that would link these two planning levels. In this article we propose a technique for operational modelling. The technique aims to analyse the business model from a resource-based viewpoint. It lists the service components and provides means for analysing the extra resources and capabilities needed for producing the service. Operational model also helps in estimating the feasibility of the business ideas: It explicitly defines the metrics for measuring the success of the business model in terms of the strategic goals of the organisation. This easy-to-use modelling technique combines business modelling with elements from the enterprise architecture (EA) literature, and can be complemented with more formal business modelling notations and process modelling procedures.

There is a multitude of tools available for Business Model Innovation (BMI). However, Business models (BM) and supporting tools are not yet widely known by micro, small and medium sized companies (SMEs). In this paper, we build on analysis of 61 cases to present typical BMI paths of European SMEs. Firstly, we constructed two paths for established companies that we named as 'I want to grow' and 'I want to make my business profitable'. We also found one path for start-ups: 'I want to start a new business'. Secondly, we suggest appropriate BM toolsets for the three paths. The identified paths and related tools contribute to BMI research and practise with an aim to boost BMI in SMEs.

Timing of Business Model Innovation both with regard to the right moment as well as speed of implementing competitive concepts becomes crucial. In this conceptual paper we discuss and evaluate possibilities for shortening the lead-‐time and increasing impact of Business Model Innovation aiming at low-‐end and new market disruptions. The small, shallow lake Littoistenjärvi (SW Finland) experienced in 1978–2019 rapid fluctuations between extreme ecological states, initially associated with mass occurrences of the submerged macrophyte Elodea canadensis Michx. In collapse years following abundance peaks, water was turbid, in other years clear. Aeration prevented anoxia under ice-cover, but this favoured Elodea. Mechanical plant removal accelerated Elodea growth, and had to be abandoned. Recurrent cyanobacterial blooms started in 2000, and by 2006 phosphorus and chlorophyll reached new high levels because of increased internal loading. During this turbid state, internal loading showed significant positive correlation with maximum water temperature and pH. External loading was reduced in 2011 by one-third by diverting runoff from a former arable field transformed into a wetland.
