The Fondazione Giorgio Cini Institute of Art History has announced an annual competition for a study prize worth 1,500 euros for art historians, graduates, postgraduates, master’s students, and PhD students, who for reasons related to their field of study and research need to make a study trip and/or live temporarily in a city other than that of residence (or domicile), to make use of the resources at a research institute, museum, library, archive or foundation.

The Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice offers 11 residential scholarships to PhD students and postdoc students who must not be over 40 years old on September 1, 2022, interested in spending two consecutive months in Venice at the Vittore Branca International Center for the Study of Italian Culture between January and December 2023.

10 scholarships will be granted to interdisciplinary research projects in the field of Humanities.

1 scholarship will be granted to digitization-related research projects.

The Fondazione Giorgio Cini offers 1 residential scholarship to PhDs and post-doc students who must not be over 40 years old on August 30, 2019. The scholarship enables studies focused on the Benno Geiger Archive, which is preserved and developed on the Island of San Giorgio, as well as on other literary archives held by the Foundation.

Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Fondation Concordance, Irma Merk Stiftung and L. + Th. La Roche Stiftung offer scholarships for Baroque soloist singers to partecipate to 2018 Early Music Seminars, directed by Pedro Memelsdorff.

The Seminars, on Caribbean Concerts Spirituels, will take place at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini from November 26 to 30, and will be focused on a comparison between 18th century manuscript Concerts spirituels and the Messe en cantiques, underlining the unique kaleidoscope of cultures—and tensions—of the French Caribbean at the dawn of the Haitian revolution.

L’Istituto Interculturale di Studi Musicali Comparati (IISMC), nell’ambito del progetto Sguardi musicali: progetti di etnomusicologia visiva, ha istituito, in memoria di Diego Carpitella, una borsa di ricerca dell’importo di 5.000,00 euro (lordi) finalizzata alla realizzazione di un prodotto audiovisivo di interesse etnomusicologico.

La borsa è offerta dalla Fondazione di Venezia.

Sono ammessi alla selezione giovani ricercatori italiani o stranieri, con esperienza nel campo dell’etnomusicologia visiva, che preferibilmente non abbiano raggiunto il 40mo anno d’età al giorno della scadenza del bando, che presentino un progetto inedito per la realizzazione di un prodotto audiovisivo del quale dimostrino di detenere i pieni diritti.

L’Istituto Interculturale di Studi Musicali Comparati, in collaborazione con Durham University’s Department of Music, offre 10 borse di studio a etnomusicologi e antropologi interessati alle riprese audiovisive per fini di documentazione e analisi delle tradizioni musicali.

Il workshop su La documentazione audiovisiva della ricerca sul campo, a cura di Marco Lutzu e Simone Tarsitani, si svolgerà presso la Fondazione Cini dal 12 al 16 giugno e coprirà gli aspetti tecnici e logistici delle riprese audio e video, inquadrate all’interno delle più comuni esigenze della ricerca scientifica.

Thanks to the contribution of Pentagram Stiftung, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini offers 1 six-month residential scholarship for the purpose of studying 20th-century glass-making art in Venice. The scholarship is worth 6,200 euros (gross sum) and accommodation free of charge for 6 months at the Vittore Branca Center Residence.

Part of the Stanze del Vetro project, the scholarship will be awarded to an Italian or foreign[1] undergraduate or graduate student (PhD or post-doctorate) wishing to spend six months doing research at the Glass Study Center / Institute of Art History in the period April–December 2018.

In memory of Olivo and Vilma Andreazza, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini has created two 3-month residential scholarships to enable “second and third generation” Italians (i.e. children and grandchildren of Italians who emigrated to work abroad) to come to Italy for a study period at the Vittore Branca International Center for the Study of Italian Culture.

Each scholarship is worth 3,100 euros (gross sum) and 3 month accommodation free of charge in the Vittore Branca Center Residence.

Scholarships to participate to 2018 edition of Ottoman Music Seminars Bîrûn: Religious music and songs of the Istanbul Armenians

The Fondazione Giorgio Cini offers 10 scholarships to professional and semi-professional solo singers,‘ûd players, tanbûr players, kanûn players, kemençe players and percussionists to participate to the next edition of Ottoman Music Seminars Bîrûn, directed by Kudsi Erguner that will take place on March 19-24, 2018, on the topic: Religious music and songs of the Istanbul Armenians. The selected Ensemble will be made of 5 singers and 5 expert players of the typical instruments of cultivated Ottoman music. The seminar will end with a public concert of the Ensemble Bîrûn, conducted by Kudsi Erguner, on Saturday 24 March 2018.

The Fondazione Giorgio Cini, together with Fondation Concordance, Irma Merk Stiftung and L. + Th. La Roche Stiftung, offers scholarships to instrumental ensembles and young solo singers specialised in the eighteenth-century repertoire, to participate to next Early Music Seminar, directed by Pedro Memelsdorff, on: Jan Dismas Zelenka – Masses and sonatas (1720-30). The Seminar, to be held on 19-24 February 2018, will see the participation of renowned oboist Alfredo Bernardini and the vocalist-conductor Václav Luks.

Le tre borse residenziali, della durata di un mese, sono destinate a laureati, dottorandi e dottori di ricerca italiani e stranieri, che non abbiano superato i 35 anni al 30 giugno 2017.

The Giorgio Cini Foundation offers three scholarships each year for studies focused on the Benno Geiger Archive, which is preserved and developed on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, as well as on other literary archives held by the Foundation. The scholarships are in accordance with Elsa Geiger Ariè’s will and are associated with the “Premio letterario Benno per la traduzione poetica”, an annual poetry translation prize, set up to commemorate her father.

The three scholarships (each worth 2,000 euros) lasting one month are offered to Italian and foreign graduates, postgraduates and postdoctoral researchers under the age of 35 on 30 June 2017.

The Fondazione Giorgio Cini – with the contribution of the Fondation Concordance and the Foundations Irma Merk, and L. & Th. La Roche (Basel, Switzerland) – will grant full scholarships to professional or semi-professional young soloist singers specialized in medieval repertories to the next Early Music Seminars, directed by Pedro Memelsdorff, focused on Roman de Fauvel. Music and Corruption in Paris at the Court of Philip the Fair (1300-1315).

The Seminar will consist in master-classes, lectures and workshops by three of the main experts in the field: Benjamin Bagby, founder and director of the ensemble Sequentia, Margaret Bent and Anna Zayaruznaya (eminent musicologists at the Universities of Oxford and Yale).

From 14 to 19 March 2016, the Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice, is holding the fifth edition of Bîrûn, a series of advanced workshops on Ottoman classical music, directed by Kudsi Erguner, and addressed to professional or semi-professional musicians.
