Aneta Brisudova, Jozef Skarda
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):127-132 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2020.015
Gene rearrangements have been identified in patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Early detection of these biomarkers is crucial for targeted therapy determination. Currently available methods have limitations, that can be overcome by next-generation sequencing. This review compares current methods of predictive gene rearrangements detection in patients with NSCLC.

Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):141-146 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2019.038
Determining the factors predicting thrombus burden has great importance in predicting adverse cardiovascular events as well as determining the most appropriate treatment strategy to prevent failure in PCI. EAT was found to be an independent predictor of coronary thrombus burden in STEMI.
Long-term outcome of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation catheter ablation with and without pulmonary vein dormant conduction after adenosine challenge
Tomas Skala, Jan Precek, Martin Hutyra, Ondrej Moravec, Zbynek Tudos, Jitka Skalova, Olga Klementova, Andrea Antonicka, Jana Zapletalova, Milos Taborsky
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):147-153 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2019.005
Patients with apparently dormant conduction after adenosine during catheter ablation of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation are known to have a high arrhythmia recurrence rate. If a dormant conduction is eliminated by additional extensive ablation, these patients have the same outcome in the long term as patients without dormant conduction. This favorable outcome lasts for several years.
The efficacy of a non-leaching antibacterial central venous catheter - a prospective, randomized, double-blind study
Ivo Krikava, Martin Kolar, Barbora Garajova, Tomas Balik, Alena Sevcikova, Ingolf Roschke, Pavel Sevcik
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):154-160 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2019.022
A prospective, randomized, double-blinded and controlled study compared non-leaching central venous catheter (Certofix® protect) with a standard catheter (Certofix®). There was no difference for catheter colonization rates between the coated and uncoated catheter. However, the coated central venous catheter showed a significantly lower incidence of bloodstream infections and a significantly lower mean incidence of bloodstream infections per 1000 catheter days.
Safe and effective percutaneous ethanol injection therapy of 200 thyroid cysts
Milan Halenka, David Karasek, Jan Schovanek, Zdenek Frysak
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):161-167 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2019.007
Aim of this study was to highlight the possibility of using US-PEIT to treat recurrent and symptomatic thyroid cyst. In this patient cohort, the relatively small amount of alcohol (corresponding to 20% of initial volume) was sufficient to treat the cysts, with a very low incidence of complications. To our knowledge this is the third largest published patient cohort on this issue.
Monitoring of fibrinolytic system activity with plasminogen, D-dimers and FDP in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) after topical, intravenous or combined administration of tranexamic acid
Jiri Lostak, Jiri Gallo, Ludek Slavik, Jana Zapletalova, Lubos Balaz
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):168-176 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2019.034
This study first describes the effect of different administration modes (topical, intravenous and combination) of tranexamic acid (TXA) on the plasma levels of plasminogen, D-dimers and FDP in patients undergoing TKA surgery. The largest antifibrinolytic effect was associated with intravenous administration of TXA. No intervention was found to significantly interfer with the process associated with systemic fibrinolysis, although D-dimers and FDPs increased over the first 12 hours after surgery and culminated around 6 hours after surgery.
Evaluation of spine structure stability at different locations during SBRT
Lukas Knybel, Jakub Cvek, Zuzana Cermakova, Jaroslav Havelka, Michaela Pomaki, Kamila Resova
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):177-182 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2019.027
Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) requires great accuracy in order to deliver high doses of radiation to areas close to the organs at risk. SBRT of spine tumors is challenging because of the close relationship between the target tissue and the spinal cord. The present study evaluated spine motion during SBRT treatment to assess the risk of verifying patient alignment only prior to starting treatment.

Downregulation of CIP2A inhibits cancer cell proliferation and vascularization in renal clear cell carcinoma
Hui Gao, Yuqiao Li, Tao Lin, Yan Cheng, Yunbo Ma
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):196-202 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2019.031
Cancerous inhibitor of PP2A (CIP2A) was upregulated in renal clear cell carcinoma. Downregulation of CIP2A can inhibit cancer cell proliferation and vascularization in renal clear cell carcinoma through inactivation of the protein kinase B (Akt) pathway and its downstream vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). We characterized a novel CIP2A/Akt/VEGF in renal clear cell carcinoma.

Milan Sova, Martin Poruba, Samuel Genzor, Petr Jakubec, Jaromir Zatloukal, Vitezslav Kolek, Karel Urbanek, Martina Vasakova, Ludek Stehlik, Pavla Zackova, Amjad Ghazal Asswad
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2020, 164(2):213-215 | DOI: 10.5507/bp.2020.008
The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of the Pleuralvent™ device and classic chest tube, in which the clinical data in the treatment of iatrogenic pneumothorax were lacking. According to the results of the study, the use of the Pleuralvent™ device could become the new standard in the treatment of iatrogenic pneumothorax.
