You'd think that being touched by a Spirit would bless you for the rest of your life - that was most definitely not the case for Sokka. The war still took his mother and father. He was engaged to someone he didn't love. His life seemed to only be filled with struggle.
A Spirit's blessing didn't protect you from the Fire Nation, and Sokka realized this when an invasion on the North Pole goes horribly wrong. Zhao the "Moon Slayer" is certainly one problem.Forced to work with the Fire Nation prince is another.

Zuko was almost killed the moment he was born. Ozai said he lacked the spark necessary of a fire-bender and almost cast him over the palace walls, only saved by Ursa’s powerful, motherly conviction. Pleading to give Zuko a chance. Agni, please, just one chance.
He wasted that chance at thirteen years old, during an Agni Kai, forever branded to be the banished son of Ozai. He was honourless, irredeemable, and yet still, somehow, he found his way. Zuko knows how it feels to be worthless, he knows how he it feels to desperately claw at that accusation and prove otherwise. This is why, with the Fire Nation's carcass resting on his shoulders, he knows he cannot buckle underneath the pressure. It is his responsibility, his duty to both his people and the world, to fulfil this role, for fear of his father's tyranny seeping back into the palace walls. When Zuko is banished, he does not look for The Avatar. He doesn't believe The Avatar is still out there. Then, while Zuko and Iroh are sailing around the South Pole, they see that brilliant light in the sky. Zuko knows, this is where is life changes.

When Zuko was thirteen, his father attempted to kill him by the command of Firelord Azulon, burning through half of his face with the fiercest flame he could conjure. When Zuko failed to die, Ursa begged for her son’s life in exchange for the Firelord’s. She fled with her children after delivering counterfeit poison to Ozai and they hid among the refugees of Ba Sing Se.
A baby was left at their door when Zuko was seventeen, from an encounter he could not recall. His mother wailed harder than the newborn infant when she found out about his work as an escort. He quit that day, and named his daughter Izumi.
At twenty-three, Zuko meets Katara and Sokka, who both fled their homes as children to seek refuge from the raids of their tribe. However, Zuko meets them in very different circumstances: Katara as a trainee at the strip club he works at, and Sokka as his daughter’s teacher at Ba Sing Se Primary School.

Summary
In the year 96 AG, a freshly burned and banished 13-year-old Prince Zuko discovers a strange boy frozen in an iceberg.
When Zhao interferes with Zuko's plans to deliver the Avatar to his father, Aang helps Zuko and Iroh escape. They take refuge in the abandoned Air Temples, Aang searching for any remnants of his people that he can find. Along the way, he teaches an indoctrinated Zuko about the true nature of the Air Nomads, and Zuko must come to terms with the fact that everything he has been taught was a lie, while Iroh must acknowledge and face the sins of his past.
Eventually, Aang and Zuko become close friends, and Zuko begins to feel things he has never felt for anyone before. However, Zhao will not give up easily, and will do whatever it takes to capture the Avatar and his traitor accomplices.
This AU will explore the friendship and eventual romance that could have developed between Aang and Zuko if the circumstances of their meeting had been different. Eventually will end up following most of the canon events of the original show, just over the span of 3-4 years instead of 1.

The deranged, reckless, fire-breathing prince that chased them across half the world was, as little as Sokka wanted to admit it at the time, actually kind of cool. Now, he’s twenty one, sparring across from that same prince– now a king– in a small courtyard at the heart of the Fire Nation, and he realizes that not only is the Fire Lord actually kind of cool, he’s also really pretty.

Summary
After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.
Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.
Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)
Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.
Her father may have made a slight tactical error.

A sequel to my Karate Kid AU, so in that way it's a Cobra Kai AU but it's very loose in terms of plot/character adaptation. It actually doesn't follow the show plot at all so you definitely do not have to watch the show to understand it. But! If you did watch it and thought Johnny and Daniel should kiss, and you also like Zukka, this is the fic for you.
Most of this is rated T but bumped the rating to M for one (1) explicit scene in one (1) chapter (there are chapter-specific warnings as well).
