Six months have passed since Zuko’s coronation, and he and Katara are both hard at work charting the course for a new, tenuous era of peace. As representatives of the four nations prepare to gather on Fire Nation soil for the first time in a century, new ideas are on the rise and hope is in the air.
The pressure on Zuko, the new young Fire Lord, and Katara, a Waterbender in the heart of the Fire Nation, is incredible. The Hundred Years’ War casts long shadows, old friends and old enemies are at the door, and Zuko and Katara have to rediscover who they are -and what they mean to each other- in their new reality.

He's not an idiot, he knows his father does not believe the Avatar is alive, he does not truly expect him to find them. He's being punished for his disrespect, for not living up to what his father demands. He might deserve it, but he won't spend his life looking for someone who hasn't existed in one hundred years. If he's going to be a disappointment anyways he may as do what he pleases, and if that means joining a pirate crew, chasing some spirits and blowing up whatever Fire Navy harbors are on the way, so be it.

However, clashes with his superior and his own doubt cause frequent clashes within the Waterbenders head. His honor on the line, he tries to live up to what a true son of the Fire Nation is.

During his attempt, good fortune (or maybe bad luck) leads to him meeting Jin from the lower ring and discovering her crush on Zuko. In his attempt to play matchmaker, partly for Zuko's sake, but mostly for his own, he drags Sokka away from an important war meeting to help him.
But Sokka knows his plan is going to crash and burn, because love is hard. And people are complicated.And firebenders aren't even people to begin with.

And then Zuko was born. With glowing eyes.
Ozai is ecstatic- until he realizes that Zuko can't see into the future. When he touches people he sees their pasts.
It is usually very hard to hate someone who is entirely human to you. It is hard to hate someone when you understand them as well as you understand yourself.
And Aang is very, very human.

Yet, as he went to sleep for the night he couldn’t help but over analyze everything Zuko said. Who he was looking at. What he was saying. Why was he saying it. Zuko had been on the hunt for them for so long, not once had he tried to be good without his own personal gain. However, Sokka couldn’t find a different strategy, any underlying clue that Zuko wasn’t being sincere in his words or actions.Why did he even care? Sokka had no reason to analyze Zuko, but he seemed almost desperate. Who would willingly give themselves up to, not to brag, such a strong team? Just to capture the Avatar? It didn’t seem right.

And so Azula set his body ablaze. The crowd's cheer of approval and satisfaction at his suffering was both defaning and heartbreaking. As his skin was melting off his body, as he screamed in hatred, defiance, and agony, Sokka only felt regret. Regret of how he failed to save those he loved. Regret of how he failed the world twice. But before his life could fully darken, Sokka started falling. He screamed as he fell into a small patch of bamboo. As he got up his eyes widened in shock and disbelief, but quickly suppressed those feelings with practiced ease. As he pushed the bamboo out of the way and made it out, a force sped towards him.
“SOKKA!” Katara hugged him in relief.
Sokka’s eyes widened to a comical size and tears started forming in them. He hugged her back as the feelings of pain and suffering since the war ended overwhelmed his young 15 year old body. His voice cracked up in emotion and he started crying on her shoulder.
“K-Katara.”
