Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Electron microprobe analyses of olivine and oxide grains from the Five Fingers lava flows in the northern Harrat Rahat volcanic field, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Electron microprobe analyses of olivine and oxide grains from the Five Fingers lava flows in the northern Harrat Rahat volcanic field, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
We present new electron microprobe analyses of olivine and oxide grains hosted in three young basaltic lava flows located in northern Harrat Rahat, a distributed volcanic field in central-western Saudi Arabia. These lavas, collectively referred to as the Five Fingers, erupted at ca. 24 ka from three elongate vent complexes that fall along a common lineament. Integrated with existing...
Overflight thermal imagery of the eruption of the north crater of Mount Young, Semisopochnoi Island, Alaska, 2021 Overflight thermal imagery of the eruption of the north crater of Mount Young, Semisopochnoi Island, Alaska, 2021
The Alaska Volcano Observatory conducted overflights of the active north crater of Mount Young on Semisopochonoi Island, Alaska, during its eruption in 2021 to capture the volcanic and hydrothermal activity within the vent during (May 30) and between (June 8) ash emissions. Thermal videos were acquired to see through the ash and steam and observe the features within the active crater...
2024 Post-Wildfire Debris-Flow Hazard Assessments 2024 Post-Wildfire Debris-Flow Hazard Assessments
Wildfire can substantially alter the hydrologic response of watersheds to rainfall, and debris-flow activity is among the most destructive consequences of these events. To assist federal, state, and local agencies in planning for postfire hazards, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducts debris-flow hazard assessments for recent wildfires. This collection holds all postfire debris-flow...
Grain-size analysis of sediment samples collected in the nearshore zone offshore of Marconi Beach, Wellfleet, MA, December 9, 2024 Grain-size analysis of sediment samples collected in the nearshore zone offshore of Marconi Beach, Wellfleet, MA, December 9, 2024
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center deployed a nanopod to collect measurements of winter wave conditions directly offshore of Marconi Beach in Wellfleet, MA. Supplementary sediment samples were collected to characterize grain size. Marconi Beach is the site of ongoing measurements of wave runup, and this field work provides information on the...
Gravity data and basin thickness grids for "Geophysical evidence for wedging in the San Gorgonio Pass structural knot, southern San Andreas fault zone, southern California" Gravity data and basin thickness grids for "Geophysical evidence for wedging in the San Gorgonio Pass structural knot, southern San Andreas fault zone, southern California"
This data release contains (1) principal facts of gravity measurements collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in 2000-2004 (usgs_iso.csv) and (2) inputs to a gravity inversion of Cenozoic basin thickness based on those gravity and previous measurements. Gridded data (geotiffs.zip) consist of the input isostatic gravity grid as well as grids of Cenozoic basin thickness and basement...
U-Th-Pb Geochronology of the Mentor Anorthosite Intrusive Complex (MAIC) and Regional Plutonic Units U-Th-Pb Geochronology of the Mentor Anorthosite Intrusive Complex (MAIC) and Regional Plutonic Units
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release accompanies planned publication 'Geophysical architecture and geochronology of the Neoarchean Mentor anorthosite intrusive complex, northwestern Minnesota: largest anorthosite complex of the Superior Province?'. The data release includes laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) U-Pb zircon geochronology data...
Simulated floods, sediment entrainment, and debris-flow inundation in the Toutle and Cowlitz River valleys resulting from hypothetical dam breaches of Spirit Lake, Washington Simulated floods, sediment entrainment, and debris-flow inundation in the Toutle and Cowlitz River valleys resulting from hypothetical dam breaches of Spirit Lake, Washington
This data release contains postprocessed model output from a set of numerical simulations of hypothetical outburst floods of Spirit Lake, downstream sediment entrainment, and emergent debris flows, in the Toutle and Cowlitz River valleys in Washington State. The data release provides debris-flow inundation extent, travel times, maximum depths, and model input data (including hypothetical...
Data describing IAV infection and seroprevalence in Lesser and Greater Scaup Data describing IAV infection and seroprevalence in Lesser and Greater Scaup
Clade 2.3.4.4b Eurasian-origin H5N1 entered North America in late 2021 and spread across the continent. While studies have characterized the antibody response mounted by dabbling ducks following exposure, little data is available for diving ducks. This study sought to identify influenza A virus (IAV) infection and antibodies in Lesser and Greater Scaup captured in Maryland, Illinois, and...
Characterization of three common land-applied wastes: Inorganic, organic, and microbial compositions of biosolid, livestock, and drilling fluid waste, United States, 2021 and 2022 Characterization of three common land-applied wastes: Inorganic, organic, and microbial compositions of biosolid, livestock, and drilling fluid waste, United States, 2021 and 2022
It is common practice for waste byproducts generated from the treatment of municipal waste (biosolids), livestock production (manure), and oil and gas drilling operations (spent drill fluids and cuttings) to be applied to farmland as a cost-effective means of disposal. From June 2021 to January 2022, 34 samples of land-applied waste materials were collected in 14 U.S. states. Samples...
Statistical streamflow comparison of current (1990-2019) and historical (1950-79) 30-year periods for selected streams in New Jersey Statistical streamflow comparison of current (1990-2019) and historical (1950-79) 30-year periods for selected streams in New Jersey
The U.S. Geological Survey completed a study of selected continuous and partial-record streams in New Jersey for a historical period (1950-79) and a current period (1990-2019) in order to better understand potential streamflow trends over time. The outcomes of this project will support New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and other agencies in water-supply planning, waste...
Comparison of four snapshots of Watershed Boundary Dataset Twelve-Digit Hydrologic Units Comparison of four snapshots of Watershed Boundary Dataset Twelve-Digit Hydrologic Units
This data release contains a registry and comparison of the representation of twelve-digit hydrologic unit code (HUC) hydrologic unit polygons from four snapshot versions of the Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). The four versions were chosen due to their pressence in broadly: National Hydrologic Dataset Plus V2.1 (nhdpv2) and National Hydrologic Dataset Plus High Resolution (nhdphr)...
