Fossil fuels account for ***** percent of total primary energy consumption worldwide. Although figures have been declining in recent years, owing to greater use of renewable sources, fossil fuels still make up the majority share of energy consumption.
Figures were manually calculated by Statista and include oil, natural gas, and coal.
The source adds the following information: "Primary energy consumption is measured in terawatt-hours (TWh). Here an inefficiency factor (the 'substitution' method) has been applied for fossil fuels, meaning the shares by each energy source give a better approximation of final energy consumption."
