CIE 120: One-Way Slab Design Lab

The document outlines a laboratory exercise for CIE 120, focusing on the analysis and application of one-way slabs in reinforced concrete design. It includes multiple problems requiring calculations for slab thickness, design moments, and bar spacing using specified materials and loads. Students are instructed to provide answers neatly and without erasures, using black pen only.

Name: _____________________________________ Date: __________________

Year and Section: _________________________ Laboratory No.: ________

INSTRUCTION: Answer the following questions. Write the answer on the space
provided. Use BLACK PEN ONLY for the solution and answer. Strictly NO ERASURES,
write your solution as neatly and organize as possible. NO ROUNDING OFF, use
three decimal places for the final answer.

“ANALYSIS AND APPLICATION OF ONE-WAY SLAB”

Problem No.1: Determine the slab thickness of the one-way slab floor system
where the exterior and interior span lengths center-to-center of the beams are
3.2 m and 3.6 m respectively. Grade 40 rebars (fy=276 Mpa) are to be used for
this prismatic slab. The beam widths are typical at 300 mm. Roundup to the
nearest 5 mm.

REQUIRED ANSWER
a) Determine the slab thickness of the one-way slab floor
system

Problem No.2: Determine the slab thickness of a prismatic one-way slab floor
system where the supporting beams center-to-center span lengths of the exterior
and interior slabs are 3.8 m and 4.3 m, respectively. Use Grade 60 rebars (fy=
414 Mpa) and typical beam widths of 250mm. Roundup to the nearest 10 mm.

REQUIRED ANSWER
a) Determine the slab thickness of the one-way slab floor
system

Problem No.3: Determine the design moments of a two-span, one-way slab shown
below with equal clear spans of 3.4m. The slab thickness is 145mm. The
superimposed floor loads are 4 kPa and 2.4 kPa dead and live loads,
respectively.

L L

REQUIRED ANSWER
a) Positive moment for the first span Slab.

b) Positive moment for the second span Slab.

c) Maximum Negative moment for the first span Slab.

d) Maximum Negative moment for the second span Slab.

Problem No.4: Determine the design moments of a more than two-span, one-way
slab shown below. The exterior clear span is 3.9 m and the typical interior
clear spans are 4.2 m. The slab thickness is 165 mm. The superimposed floor
dead and live loads are 3.6 kPa and 3.2 kPa, respectively. The slab is on top
but not monolithic with the edge beam.

L L L

REQUIRED ANSWER
a) Positive moment for the first span Slab.

b) Positive moment for the second span Slab.

c) Maximum Negative moment for the first span Slab.

d) Maximum Negative moment for the second span Slab.

e) Positive moment for the third span Slab.

f) Maximum Negative moment for the third span Slab.

Problem No.5: Determine the design moments of a two-span, one-way slab in

problem 3 with unequal clear spans of 3.2m and 4m. Determine the slab
thickness by using Grade 40 (fy=276 Mpa) rebars. Roundup the slab thickness to
the nearest 10mm. The superimposed floor loads are 2.4 kPa and 1.9 kPa dead
and live loads, respectively. Assume that the negative moments at the exterior
supports are wL²/24.

a) Positive moment for the first span Slab.

b) Positive moment for the second span Slab.

c) Maximum Negative moment for the first span Slab.

d) Maximum Negative moment for the second span Slab.

e) Determine the slab thickness of the one-way slab floor

system

Problem No.6: Determine the design moments of the, one-way slab in problem 4.
Determine the slab thickness by using Grade 60 (fy=414 Mpa) rebars, Roundup
the slab thickness to the nearest 10mm. The superimposed floor loads are 1.8
kPa and 4.8 kPa dead and live loads, respectively.
