Name of the Subject: Additional Mathematics (0606)

Curriculum: IGCSE
Grade level: 10
School Year: 2025 - 2026
_____________________________________________________________________________________

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics supports learners in building competency, confidence

and fluency in their use of techniques and mathematical understanding. This course helps learners
to develop a feel for quantity, patterns and relationships. Learners will develop their reasoning,
problem-solving and analytical skills in a variety of contexts. It provides a strong foundation of
mathematical knowledge both for candidates studying mathematics at a higher level and those who
will require mathematics to support skills in other subjects.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The aims are to enable students to:
• consolidate and extend their mathematical skills, and use these in the context of more advanced
techniques
• further develop their knowledge of mathematical concepts and principles, and use this knowledge
for problem solving
• appreciate the interconnectedness of mathematical knowledge
• acquire a suitable foundation in mathematics for further study in the subject or in mathematics-
related subjects
• devise mathematical arguments and use and present them precisely and logically
• integrate information technology (IT) to enhance the mathematical experience
• develop the confidence to apply their mathematical skills and knowledge in appropriate
situations
• develop creativity and perseverance in the approach to problem solving
• derive enjoyment and satisfaction from engaging in mathematical pursuits, and gain an
appreciation of the elegance and usefulness of mathematics
• provide foundation for IBDP higher level Mathematics courses .

CLASSROOM NORMS:
● always be respectful and courteous to their teachers and peers
● refrain from inappropriate, offensive, disruptive, demeaning or threatening comments
● ensure that they do not facilitate any misrepresentation of identity
● observe the decorum of the classroom by being appropriately dressed
● be prepared for the lesson with all the learning material as required
● inform the teacher in advance in case of absenteeism
● work on synchronous or asynchronous work as assigned
● work on all assignments and assessments with the level of academic integrity expected by
the school

COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
What to expect from the teacher:

1. Pace & pattern: Expect to move through the year’s content following the cycle
schedule.
2. In-class work: Expect to use class time efficiently and productively.
3. Homework: Expect to have daily assignments, supplemented by other worksheets

What is expected from the student:

1. Keep up to date with the work. Seek help whenever required.

2. Autonomous learning: To become or continue being a proactive self-motivated learner.
3. Explore different ways of approaching a mathematical problem.
4. Develop independence in their mathematical learning through solving practical
questions and engaging in mathematical investigation and mathematical modelling.

2
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Practice – homework and reviewing content must be done before coming to class.
2. Notebooks – note-taking: Use your notebook to copy examples, take notes and key
information.
3. Become familiar with the difficulty and style of IGCSE past paper questions.
4. If a student is absent, the student is responsible to check with their teacher or peers to make up for
missed work. Late submissions will not be accepted unless there is a medical reason.

5. Tardiness: Be on time for class. All delays or absences will be noted.

6. Academic honesty: Have in mind that plagiarism will lead to serious consequences.
Distinguish between correct paraphrasing, direct quotation, and citation formats. Any
notebooks or homework that looks too similar will also face serious penalties.
7. Respect: Respect each other’s voice. Listen to each other
