Item 1
Your family want to develop the land by using a 0.666… .of the land
for agriculture, selling a half of the remaining land and at ugx
50millions per acre and keeping the rest for the family members
who are out of country. Your father has recently got a land title
from a survivor whom you don’t trust. He kept it in a suit case and
locked with a 2-digit pin. The pin is in base nine with the second
one being four times the first one. The pin has a characteristic that
the sum of its digit is 26. When you got your father’s pin, you
opened the suite case and found that the title showed only 13.5
acres which is 10% less than that of the real one.
Task; help your family members to know the,
a) Real area of the land
b) 2-digit pin for the suit case
c) Simplified fraction of the whole land used for agriculture and
hence determine the real area of the land for agriculture
d) Amount of money to get from the sell of the land
(20scores)
Item 2
Certain catering company was called to cook 100kg of rice at
certain party. According to to their cooking notes, they put 22.5l of
water in 10 kg of rice and 67.5l of water in 30kg. They wanted to to
use those notes to know how many liters of water to use in rice they
are ordered to cook but they find it hard.
The customer wants a tent at less than ugx 250000 and chairs at
ugx 200000 at most. However, in order to maximize the profit the
company wishes to provide both at ugx 400000. The company is
Page 2 of 6
finding it hard to decide how much to charge for the customer for
the two items.
Task
a) From a mathematical expression (relationship) between the
quantity of rice and liters of water used to cook it a cording to
their cooking notes
b) From the relationship, formed ,help the company to determine
the number of litres of water used to cook the required
quantity of rice they ordered to cook.
c) Form the inequalities that are making it hard for the company
to decide on how much to charge for the tents and chairs
respectively.
d) Represent the inequalities formed on the graph and find out
the maximum number of chairs and tents for the company
decided to offer so as to make profits.
Section B

Item 3
The director of studies to gether with team of heads of department
is organizing the school annual science fair, which features various
projects presented by candidates from different classes. The project
of three categories; Biology, Chemistry and Physics with each
student participating only one type of project. There is a challenge
with the table needed to display candidates project. The table must
be able to host project each. There are 120 candidates participating
in the science fair, with 40 candidates in Biology, 50 in Chemistry
and 30 in Physics. Among the candidates, 25 like both Biology and
Chemistry 15 like both Biology and Physics, 10 like both Chemistry

and Physics and 5 like all the subjects. The science fair organises to
plan at randomly selects one subject project for special award
Task
a) Display the number of candidates participating in each of the
main area on suitable statical diagram
b) Estimate the total number of tables required to display all
subjects
c) Determine the number of candidates who likes only one
subject
d) Compute the probability that special award is given to
Chemistry project category.
Item 4
Abrand manufacturing industry found in East part of Uganda has
run shortage of workers in the factory due to increased work ant
station and then manager intends to recruit a good number of
people to work in the factory. The factory needs a total of 50 people
(men and women). Amount of money ugx 14500000 is put on the
budget to cater their salaries in which ugx 200000 for each Man
and ugx 350000 for each woman. But however, he doesn’t know
whether to recruit 20men and 30 women or 25men and 25 women
so as to use all the reserved money for salary.
After knowing the them, the section and information given was as in
the table below

Task
a) Help the manager to decide the exact number of people he
should recruit in the factory so as to use all the planned salary
of the workers
b) Based on computations, determine the suitable number of
workers which should be added to the factory.
c) The manager wishes to know the number of officials which
prefer the employee in each section to be greater than 60 help
him to estimate.
Section B
Part 2
Answer only one item
Item 4
The numerator in just concluded population census was sent to
kalangala district. During the exercise, she had to travel to travel
in two towns A and B. These towns had an island between them.
Due to poor photography, the numerator was disturbed with
movement between the towns.
Unfortunately, one citizens advised him to first move kalangala
SS from which he should proceed East wards for some distance
until he reaches the first trading center and brank off the final
destination.
Kalangala SS is said to be 200km at a bearing of 1500 from town
A and trading center is 3000 from school while town B is 400km
away N 200 E of the trading center. After the exercise the
numerator intended to finish her house by painting with a paint
using the amount from the exercise. The house is said to have
Page 5 of 6
length which is 5times it’s width and the total area of the house
is 125m2. Every tin of paint, can paint 3.5m.
Tasks
a) Assuming that the island was not in place, help the
numerator to determine the shortest distance in km the
direct route between town A has B
b) Determine how much the numerator will spend in painting
his house.
Hint; one tin of paint is as worth ugx 10500.
