Vladimir Nabokov s Short Stories
Vladimir Nabokov s short stories featured are Signs and Symbols, Bachmann and Terra Incognita.
Signs and Symbols focuses on a young boy institutionalized with a morbid paranoia of the outside
world and the impact this has on his elderly parents. Bachmann is about a genius composer whose
only source of affection is of Madame Perov, whose infatuation is seen in her constant attendance of
his piano recitals. Terra Incognito s main character Valliére and his companions are losing their
minds and lives to strange hallucigenic fever in a remote country in the fictional country of Zonraki.
Strong aspects of all three short stories focus on the alienation of each of the protagonists and the
cause of this, either due to madness, great creativity or delusion. This link is forged between the
three, which would have not been as obvious. To attempt to show this association, the following
question arose, which is:

The alienated person is out of touch with himself as he is out of touch with any person. (Erich
Fromm, 1955) How does Nabokov convey alienation of characters well in the short stories Signs and
Symbols, Bachmann and Terra Incognita?

The three short stories, Signs and Symbols, Bachmann and Terra Incognita are going to be
examined. Nabokov is interested in people who are forcefully marginalized by society due to their
imaginations. He depicts them using a number of writer s tools such as the conflict between
characters, the opinions of secondary characters, description of
America s Favorite Pastime Analysis
America s Favorite Pastime to watch is Baseball. The Marlins are a baseball team that recently
got a record of 79 82, a 8 win improvement of last year. It would not start all that pretty for the team.
They took rough financial patches to be at where they are at now. The Marlins are a baseball team
that proved everyone wrong in rebuilding by having no veteran leadership and a low payroll to
manage.
The Marlins on November 12,2011 got a new name and it was the Miami Marlins. The Marlins get
a new ballpark and new uniforms with a design and color scheme. They got new players and it
included shortstop and 2011 batting champion Jose Reyes, and Mark Buehrle stated in (Time How
the Miami Marlins Disgraced Baseball). They spent an abundant amount ... Show more content on

But when the Marlins get a new manager for the 2016 season everything changes for the team.
The new manager was Don Mattingly who was the Manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers and
made the postseason five years in a row for the team. The Marlins decide to keep the young
players for the 2016 season and not spend on veterans which allowed the young players to play
well throughout the season.. The Marlins was motivated but they fell short with a 79 82 record
and which is the teams seventh subpar winning season in a row now.. From this season the marlins
get a bigger payroll of 102.98 million which is the second time in franchise history to hit that mark
stated in the (The Marlins 2017 payroll will surpass 100 million.) The Marlins make moves that lead
to sucess for the team in the
Sarastro In The Magic Flute
The Bergman film of Mozart s comic opera, The Magic Flute, talks about a prince named,
Tamino, who was attacked by a big serpent. Luckily, three ladies who are the servants of the
Queen of the Night saved him. Later on, the three ladies showed him a portrait of the queen s
daughter, Pamina, and Tamino instantly falls in love with her. The Queen of the Night promises
Tamino that he can have her daughter, if he can rescue Pamina who is imprisoned by the evil
Sarastro. Tamino agrees, and was given a magic flute by the three ladies. Papageno, who is a bird
catcher, also received a magic bell by the ladies. By the power of the magic fluteand the magic bells,
Tamino rescues Pamina and falls in love immediately. The film eventually exposes Sarastro as a
high priest and not an evil sorcerer. Sarastro protected Pamina from her mother who is filled with
ambition to dominate the world. In Act II, Sarastro imposes three tests on Tamino, if he wanted
Pamina. The first test is Silence. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you leave the big questions to the aristocracy then problems won t be solved, if it didn t affect
or concern them. Ordinary people are definitely capable to understand these problems if they are
willing to learn and become interested in it. The Queen of the Night represents a dangerous form of
preventing people to understand the truth and was often associated with Empress Maria Theresa.
Women with power are dangerous and unpredictable because they often like to compete with other
countries for power and status quo. Mozart did a very good job in drawing upon the Queen of the
Night trying to dominate the world, but justice was served to the Queen when a thunderbolt struck
her and she went to hell. Men of the upper classes does not necessary master their passions and
behave because having too much power often corrupts the
Description Of A Circadian Rhythm
A circadian rhythm is a 24 hour cycle in the physiological processes of living beings, including
plants, animals, fungi and cyanobacteria. Although they are endogenously generated, they respond to
external stimuli such as sunlight and temperature. Circadian rhythms are important in determining
the sleeping and feeding patterns of all animals, including humans. In humans, the 24 hour cycle is
centered within the hypothalamus, which uses certain cells within the retina of the eye to detect the
level of brightness all around; these cells are called photosensitive retinal ganglion cells or pRGCs.
PRGCs send collected information through the optic nerve to the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN),
the brain s master clock; which coordinates smaller body clocks that govern the behavior of cells
throughout the body. The suprachiasmatic nuclei is a tiny patch of around 200,000 neurons. Nearly
every cell in the human body keeps time by its own means; they keep time locally, helping them
figure out when to use energy, rest, repair DNA, or replicate. Taking light as its cue, the master clock
determines a continuous cycle of physiological change within cells; this includes the production of
hormones that prepare the human body for waking and sleeping hours. Interestingly, animals,
including humans, kept in total darkness for extended periods eventually function with a free
running rhythm. Their sleep cycle is pushed back or forward each day , depending on whether their
day , is shorter or
Analysis Of CNN Architecture
Similarly, Perlin [12] systematically used a CNN to extract high level information from images and
videos in the form of soft biometrics. Focusing on faces and people gender recognition, this
approach combines convolution techniques, evolutionary computing, and clustering methods.
Basically, he proposed the optimization of a predefined CNN architecture by adjusting its weights
in an unsupervised way. Initially, the CNN architecture is trained by the classical gradient based
algorithm. Extracted features are grouped by a clustering process and each group is evolved by the
Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm. The weights of the CNN are then updated in an unsupervised
way to represent the evolved feature vectors. The proposal of clustering... Show more content on

These stages represent the network from input to pooling, pooling to pooling, and pooling to output
layers. Using this proposal, CNNs evolved by the GA resulted in very different architectures when
compared with hand designed ones, but often with a better performance. However, a major
disadvantage of the proposed framework is the training process, which has to be done from scratch
for every evolved new architecture. Fixed size convolutional blocks also limit the proposed method
by not incorporating multi scaling analysis, and this issue will be present in most of the direct
encoded methods designed for this task. Another direct encoding scheme to design CNN
architectures is proposed by Masanori et al. [14]. They created new network architectures based on
genetic programming. More specifically, a Cartesian Genetic Programming (CGP) encoding scheme
that represents the network structure and its connectivity. The main advantage of the proposed
method is the flexibility, exploring variable length architectures and skipping connections resulted in
non standard CNN architectures. To evaluate each architecture evolved by the CGP, they used the
validation dataset performance as fitness to the evolutionary programming method. They also used
predefined structural blocks called highly functional modules. Using these modules, they simulate
the behavior of
Design Driven Innovation Essay examples
1. Introduction
Design Driven Innovation (Verganti, 2009) or Design Inspired Innovation (Utterback et al., 2006),
a concept of design oriented (or novel meaning oriented) product/service planning, is now widely
recognized as one of the most competitive business creation approaches. This approach focuses
concept oriented product development to bring a novel meaning into the product, as represented by
iPod (Apple Inc.), Allesi s kitchen wares (Allesi S.p.A.) and Wii (Nintendo Corp.). A unique
product concept and a consistent strategy overcome various market barriers or technological
obstacles. Indeed, iPod established a new virtual market for the music industry, Swatch turned
watches into daily dress up accessories from lifelong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this regard, a global leading design consulting firm, IDEO, provides rich implications to us. Their
core value, design thinking is based on a typical skill set for industrial designers (Brown, 2009).
Design thinking focuses an user observation, an user experience understanding, a brain storming
with various actors, trials and tribulations. Industrial designers, using such methods, have been led
design driven innovations. However, even they can bring innovative concept, it still remains unclear
whether industrial designer can manage interaction between design and technology.
We can assume that industrial designers potentially contribute to technology innovation. Borja de
Mozota(2003) discussed the potential ability of industrial designers to contribute to technological
improvement. He mentioned that some designers mediate technologies among organizations.
Nevertheless, design and technology are regarded as apples and oranges or oil in water (Candi,
2010) in corporate strategy. Especially, among high technology firms, design rarely captures their
attention; for example, although positive relations are found between attractive new customers and
using educated designers, a limited number of Scandinavian high tech startups use such designers
(Candi, 2010). Under such a condition, it is hard for designers to enroll in a technology
development. Also, Moody(1980) found in several UK Design Awarded firms that design stimulate
technological innovation
Case Study Of Tao Kao Noi
Product Development Product development is the process of designing, creating and marketing new
products or services to benefit customers (TechTarget, 2015). Sometimes product development are
known as new product development, the main focus is on the developing systematic methods for
guiding all the processes involved in getting a new product to market. These processes start from
brainstorming idea on product; research on product; develop the product; testing; analysis; and lastly
is introduce the product on market. Product development is involves either on improving an existing
product or its presentation, or developing a new product to target a particular market segment or
segments. In this case study, the product development is mainly focused on improving existing
products, which are chestnuts and seaweed. During earlier stage in the video, the main actor, Top
had an idea to be a chestnut seller in Thailand which owned the first brand new chestnut baking
machine. He is so confident with the machines... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It had position itself as a low cost product compare to its competitor in the market. The main
reason for Tao Kao Noi to position itself is due to Top want to sell it product in 7 Elevan, the
largest outlet for snack items. Instead of lowering the cost, Tao Kao Noi also worked hard on its
packaging by redesign and create a small and convenient product as it is one of the requirement
to sell in 7 Elevan. Product packaging is a key of successful product, due to it would able to
create a strong awareness in the market and attract more customers. These tactics helped Tao Kae
Noi increased the sales and Top able to pay back 40 million baht debt. Eventually, Tao Kae Noi
snack was distributed in all major convenience store throughout Thailand, which also helped it
increased and widened its customer base. Today, Tao Kae Noi is the leading seaweed snack

Kyoto Protocol Is The Emission Of Green House Gas ( Ghg )...
In this essay, I will elaborate on analyzing the 2005 Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC from several
aspects, to achieve a holistic understanding to this protocol. The environmental problem involved
in 2005 Kyoto Protocol is the emission of Green House Gas (GHG) over the world. The global
warming due to GHG had been a big threat to human s future, and this protocol was designed to
control the emission of GHG in each country. The harm of GHG to human beings is obvious and
people have to take actions. With the industrialization and development of more and more
countries, almost every country in this world need to emit GHG to reach the wellbeing of its
citizens. The emission of GHG is not the obligation of any particular country, but the whole
world. Thus only by global cooperation can we save our future. This protocol started to work in
2005 for developed countries, and 2012 for developing countries. Specific figures were given in
this protocol. Compared to the amount of emission in 1990, the amount during 2008 to 2012
should be reduced by 5%, and every country has been assigned a particular standard in GHG
emission. For example, Japan should reduce its emission by 6%, while Australia could increase its
emission by 8%. This is a quantifiable target. When measuring the emission, we take the part of
GHG that is absorbed by forests off from the total. The biggest challenge,or we can say dilemma in
addressing this problem is that, most countries want both development and environment.
