Smoking And Nicotine Addiction
Smoking is addictive both physically and psychologically. The physical addiction can traced to the
nicotine in each cigarette. The psychological addiction is, in its own way, just as bad. Smoking
becomes second nature, like breathing. It seems hard to quit.

Stress is the main factor which trigger the smoking in the beginning and after when person addictive
to it.

In the central nervous system, nicotine causes apparent and immediate relief of anxiety through
neurochemical changes. When tobacco inhaled, nicotine enters the brain within ten seconds to
stimulate dopamine, acetylcholine, and norepinephrine. Through these actions, nicotine quickly
induces pleasure, improves mood, and enhances concentration and focus. Each cigarette provides
hundreds of rapidly fleeting nicotine hits that in turn cause short bursts of euphoria. The subjective

Thus, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure all increase after nicotine use.Nicotine effect on
the HPA builds a trigger smoking continues; The levels of cortisol and epinephrine in the body
remain high with chronic HPA activation. The result is a blunted natural stress reaction that prevents
the body from responding appropriately to other stressors.

Although smokers generally believe that nicotine reduces their stress, the repeated dopamine
stimulation provides negative reinforcement of cigarette use. Chronic smoking leads to the
compulsion of greater use to try to minimize the anxiety that results from lower dopamine levels
when the nicotine effect wears off between cigarettes.

Smoking and nicotine addiction are aggravated by additional, outside sources of stress, higher
cigarette use during times of known external stressors. In addition, the body of a smoker develops
chronic physical health problems from nicotine damage that facilitate stress
The Threat Of Liberty Equality Based Societies By Alexis...
Threat to Liberty in Equality Based Societies While traveling across the United States, Alexis de
Tocqueville recorded how democracy operates and the roles of its participants in, Democracy in
America. Tocqueville demonstrates his admiration of the American democratic system and
Americans dedication to freedom, equality, and supporting one another. Despite these praises, there
is also a looming danger against liberty in not only America, but in all societies based on equality.
The most imminent threat to liberty in these societies is despotism as it prevents individuals from
exercising their natural freedoms and rights. Tocqueville proposes resolutions to this threat, such as,
governmentdecentralization and civil associations. Despotism flourishes in equal societies due to
individuals isolating themselves and forming a centralized governing institution. As stated by
Tocqueville, Equality places men beside one another without a common bond to hold them. Equality
disposes them not to think of those like themselves... (485). With aristocracies, a society not
concerned with equality, there is a ligature between individuals within each socioeconomic class. For
instance, the noblemen associate with noblemen, while the poor associate with the poor. However,
with societies based on equality, mankind is no longer divided by their means. The wealthy are equal
to the poor in rights and freedoms, but not in monetary wealth. Lacking this unification amongst

Public Policy Vs. Administration
Public Policy and Administration is an interesting and important knowledge for all people. Every
one on this earth, regardless of his profession, hobbies, or religious views, faces these concepts. This
paper is going to describe the concepts of public policy and administration and an importance of this
area for effective and efficient management.
A public policy is an activity that has a good combination between politics and administrative
activities. The major goal of public administration are established and introduced to political actors.
So, a public policy sets the goals for public administration.
The state policy chooses the direction, in which the state develops. Interests of the state determine
the direction of its development. An experienced politician should always be a cautious man who
knows what will be important for people tomorrow and after five or ten years. This quality will
allow him or her to motivate people and to develop the country in needed sectors.
In order to avoid a political crisis, the government should not only clearly determine a list of
priorities for people, but also represent their current and long term interests. This way, the public
policy will be properly developed and will have an accurate strategic line. The government will also
manage to control the situation inside the country and become a significant player in the
international political arena.
According to some scholars, public administration is an organizational and regulating

Lab Report 1: Introduction to Statistics and Graphing

Comparison of jump height between males and females

Figure 1: Comparison of avg jump (in CM) between males (n=11) and females (n=10) with a p
value of 0.00203. This p value indicates a significant difference between the avg. jump heights of
males and females. The bars are the avg. jump heights along with standard deviation of the mean.
Results: The p value of 0.00203 is p lt;0.05 thus we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there
is a significant difference between the two means. A big part that contributes to this result
(significant differences) is that males on average tend to have more muscle mass than females ...

Maybe calves do play a roll but one that causes a relationship between the two. Other factors could
have affected the overall results could be that the jumping was not standardized, lack of a bigger
sample size, and the fact that when measuring the jump height it had to be predicted where the
person s hand reached, thus leading to huge assumptions on the measuring part.

Comparison of calf circumference and jump height in females

Figure 3: Comparison of avg. calf circumference and jump height (both in CM) in females (n=10).
A R2 value of 0.0426 (0.042592 in EXCEL) indicates a weak relationship between calf
circumference and jump height.
Results: Obtaining a R2 value of 0.042592 means there is no relationship between calf circumference
and jump height. One cannot determine the jump height by having the calf circumference. Similarly
with the calf circumference and jump height in males, physiologically, it would make more sense
for the hamstrings and quads to play a bigger role in jumping height as they are bigger muscles and
generate most of the force to jump. Even if calf circumference did have a role it might be
insignificant. Additionally, there could have been other factors that contribute to the end results:
everyone not jumping with the same intent (max effort versus minimal effort), possible injuries, or
soreness. Another source that could have contributed to end results for being what they are is the
lack of a big sample size. Additionally, measuring the

Precision And Accuracy Lab Report
Determining the Density of a Polystyrene Sphere with Precision and Accuracy
Abstract: The objective of the lab is to determine the volumes of the polystyrene spheres with three
different measuring tools: Water Displacement, Analytical Scale, and Triple Beam Balance Scale.
The experiment is meant to help understand the concept and application of precision and accuracy in
experimental measurements. Accuracy is a measure of how closely the results of repeated
measurements are to the true value of what is being measured. Precision is the variability in the
results from the repeated measurements, and how close the repeated measurements were to one
another. In this lab, the method for measuring the volume of the polystyrene spheres is done with the
previously stated tools: Water Displacement, Analytical Scale, and Triple Beam Balance Scale. The
standard deviation for the entire classes volumes and masses are recorded to determine the densities.
Introduction: Accuracy and precision were the major aspects of the lab. Accuracy is how close the
average of the measured values are to the actual value. Precision is the closeness of repeated
measurements. In the lab, the aim was to get as close as possible with both accuracy and precision
when determining the mass and volume of the spheres. The mass was determined by weighing the
spheres on the Analytical Scale and Triple Beam Balance Scale. The volume is determined by
measuring with a ruler and by water displacement. The standard
An Analysis of How the Housing Market Affects Impoverished...
I. Introduction The housing demographics of low income communities have large effects for
residents living in those areas. The objective of this report is to shed light on how the housing
market in the city of Oakland affects current and future residents. In order to analyze its affects, I
look at several factors within the housing market. There are several factors explaining why cities
similar to Oakland are continually impoverished and deprived. Some of the factors that explain why
cities like Oakland stagnate and remain impoverished are the income distribution and poverty levels
of residents in Oakland over the past decade, the increase in rent and/or spending on housing, and the
current condition of housing stock. Together, these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ACS is conducted in 1 year, 3 year, and 5 year estimates. When deciding upon which dataset
to use, I thought about which dataset would trump the others. Opposed to the 1 year estimates,
the 3 year estimates collected 36 months worth of data and had a larger sample size than 1 year
so it was more reliable. Additionally, the data was more current than the 5 year estimates so I
conclusively decided to use data from the 3 year estimates, as they were more precise and more
current. In the following section, I will explain the results that I observed through the
juxtaposition of both datasets. Additionally, I will use tables and line graphs to support the
results. III. Results Pulling relevant variables from the two datasets, I compiled Table 1 and
Figure 2 (same results, just in visual format), which depict the demographics of the city of
Oakland from 2000 to 2010. Table 1 and Figure 1 both show that the population of Oakland
decreased about 2.61% from 399,477 in 2000 to 389,301 in 2010. In addition, I have also provided
on the same table the number of owner and renter occupied units to illustrate the interesting shift of
owner occupied housing units to renter occupied housing units. From 2000 to 2010, the percentage
of owner occupied housing decreased from 41.4% to 41.2% while the percentage of renter occupied
housing increased from 58.6% to 58.8%. The ±0.2 percentage differences illustrate the shift from

Benefits Of Year-Round Schools
Year Round Schools Think about what it is like not to have a summer. One cannot attend fun
summer camps, go on once in a lifetime summer vacations, or get a fun summer job. If year round
schools are put into place everywhere, one would only have a thirty day summer, or less, instead of a
three month summer. They will be hitting the books at schoolinstead of lying out at the pool,
relaxing, working a job, or just letting go of all the stress from the school year. Imagine never truly
getting a break from school, to be in a continuous cycle with no end. Even though opponents may say
the traditional school calendar leads students to forget more over the summer months, a year round
schedule should not put in place because of the initial higher... Show more content on

About a fifth of the staff took less than ten vacation days off per year. That is very alarming
because teachers need time off, just like students (Wildman et al.). Thenceforth, the teachers and
staff could have more stress because they never truly get time off. Also, for most year round
schools, teachers only have two weeks or less, instead of two months, for planning the new school
year. Which leads to the teachers never getting down time to relax throughout the year (Carter).
There are many minor outcomes of a year round school that can impact a school district, such as,
Family lifestyle preferences, disruption of summer recreation and camp programs, possible
separation of families, assemblies at the school, and child care issues (Glines 2701). Numerous
family challenges can occur to anyone in a year round school. If the family is in a community
where there are year round schools and traditional schedule schools, then their calendars will
conflict with each other (Long). Parents can find it difficult to fit in time to relax, travel, or just
spend time together as a family. Families, in turn, do not feel as close because of not getting to hang
out as much ( Back to School? ). Also, childcare problems can occur because babysitters cannot
always work during the frequent breaks students have throughout the year
LMER Case Analysis
This has been a busy week in LMER!! I spent the week gathering data for interrogatories. An
interrogatory is a legal term for a formal set of written questions propounded by one litigant and
required to be answered by an adversary in order to clarify matters of fact and help to determine
in advance what facts will be presented at any trial in the case. The act of data gathering is
pivotal in LMER section, and as LMER Specialist, it s my duty to assist the legal team with the
request documents. The case is for an individual who feels they should have received a higher
graded position upon entering the agency. The organization posted GS 12 and GS 13 positions
within days of each other. They made a selection for the GS 12 position. The GS 13... Show more

The legal team requested information on 75 questions for this case. The LMER section only have
to respond to about six and the Staffing Specialist had about eleven to answer, then I package it all
and forwarded to the legal office. This week, I got a better understanding how LMER works with
the various other sections (Classification and Staffing) of the CPAC. LMER is the last stop when an
action from the other sections goes wrong. One of my hardest lesson this week was time management
. It is vital in the preparation fact finding documents, our deadline from the lawyer is Friday. I got
a chance to put the packet together with the review from my coach, which was exciting because
this will be used in actual court cases. I also put together a binder for Fair Labor Standards Act
(FLSA), there is a pending grievance against one of the organizations. So, we the CPAC, all need to
be smarter about FLSA. I drafted a letter of counseling of a couple of weeks ago, that was issued to
an employee. So, now the individual is wishing to file a
The Investigator Exasperated By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Damn... the investigator exasperated. Then there was a moment of uneasy silence. How did you get
in this situation? Tell me again. requested the investigator.
Alright whispered a fifteen year old boy named Nick. He found himself in an interrogation room
at a police station. He sat at one end of a table, and his older brother Tony sat on the other end.
Tony was a big time investigator in Madison, Wisconsin. Tony came as soon as he heard the news.
The one sided mirror made Nick more uncomfortable. He had told his story to countless people
now, and it was evident no one believed him. As down as he was feeling, he knew he had to tell it

Nick and his baby sister, Bella, slept downstairs, and their parents slept upstairs. He felt a surge of
worry for his baby sister so he hurried to her room. The door was shut, he stared at the knob for a
split second then he swung the door open. In the doorway of her room, he stood looking at her
cradle. Stepping towards her, he peered into the cradle, it looked like she was under a blanket. He
reached for the blanket. It felt like slow motion for Nick, maybe his baby sister was not there? As
he grabbed hold of the blanket, he uncovered to see his baby sister sleeping soundly unharmed. He
took a deep breath of relief. He thought it was his mind playing tricks on him, but then he heard a
bang.
As he was narrating, he elaborated I thought I must have been hearing things, but then I heard a
loud bang. It was a gunshot, I panicked and stumbled up the stairs. Another door was shut, this one
to our parents room. I approached it hesitantly. Again I felt stuck in time peering down at the door
handle, and terrified of what was on the other side. Nick formed his hand around the door handle,
then he pulled down. The door opened slowly. Then everything went wrong. A man wearing all
black with black gloves had a gun in his hand pointed at Nick s mom. His mother was sobbing, and
holding her dead husband in her arms.
The gun was pointed at Nick s mom, and then the intruder shot her. Time froze. The murder with the

5 Critical Approaches to Literature
5 Critical Approaches to Literature Structuralist Is a theory of a human kind thought to be parts of a
system of signs. It is described as a reaction to modernist alteration and despair. It is heavily
influenced by linguistics especially by the work of Ferdinand de Saussure. Useful was Saussure s
concept of phoneme which is the smallest basic speech sound or unit of pronunciation, the idea that
phoneme exists in two kinds of relationships (diachronic and synchronic). Diachronic is a horizontal
relationship with the other phonemes that precede and follow it in a particular usage, ulterance, or
narrative. Synchronic is a vertical relationship with the entire system of language within which

he or she judges literary work. Reader Response Criticism Reader response focuses on the reader
rather than the work itself by attempting to describe what foes on in the readers mind during a
reading of the text. The consciousness of the reader is the actual subject of reader response
criticism. It is an exploration of the possibilities for a plurality of readings. The reader is a

emphasizes the reader s role in creating the meaning and experience of a literary work. It is also a
group of critics who study not literary work but readers or audiences responding to a literary work.
Reader response theory recognizes the reader as an active agent who completes its meaning through
interpretation. Reader response argues that literature should be viewed as a performing art in which
each reader creates his or her own text related performance. Mythopoetic Is literature that involves

Walter Elias Disney had a great impact on American television and entertainment all over the
world. Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 just outside of Chicago, Illinois ( Walt Disney
Biography ). Walt Disney moved to Missouri when he was five years old, where he began to
develop a love for drawing ( Walt Disneys Life ). When Disney was sixteen, he dropped out of
school and was sent to France with the American Red Cross (Nix, Elizabeth). In 1919, Disney
moved to Kansas City to become a newspaper artist ( Walt Disney Biography ). After his time as a
newspaper artist, Disney made commercials based on animation with the Kansas City Film Ad;
after making commercials, he decided to open his own animation studio ( Walt Disney Biography
). Walt Disney and Fred Hartman created cartoons to screen at a Kansas City theater ( Walt
Disney Biography ). The cartoons were called laugh o grams, and were shown for three minutes
before a film played; since the audience loved the laugh o grams, other theaters decided to show
the short clips ( Walt Disney s Life ). At the age of twenty, Disney was forced to declare
bankruptcy in 1923 ( Walt Disney Biography ). After filing for bankruptcy, Walt Disney moved to
Hollywood California and established the Disney Brothers Studios in Los Angeles ( Walt Disney s

Why the Battle of the Somme is Regarded as a Great...
Why the Battle of the Somme is Regarded as a Great Military Tragedy On 1st July 1916, General
Haig prepared the battle plan for an offensive on German lines, designed to relieve the strain on
French forces at Verdun and break through a strong line of German defences. While Haig would
have preferred an attack further north, he was hopeful that the operation should be successful in
drawing forces away from Verdun and killing as many German troops as possible as part of the
war of attrition . The location was the Somme River. The details were worked out by General Haig
and his deputy, General Rawlinson. The focus of the battle plan was a huge artillery bombardment,
backed up by mines, collapsed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strength of German defences was also underestimated, seeing as the Germans had been in
place since 1914 and had set about placing their dug outs deep underground and fortifying them
with concrete. The barbed wire had been stretched out more than thirty metres wide, making it
almost impossible to penetrate, regardless of artillery. It was not only poor forward planning that
resulted in such terrible losses however. For example, the shells supplied to British forces were
not as Haig had envisaged, many of which were of low quality, or failed to go off at all. Over
confidence resulted in the offensive s first major flaw; it s timing. The infantry attack began at 7.30
am on 1st July, rather than at dawn when no man s land would be covered in a thick mist which
would naturally make the task of the German gunner much more difficult. Such a time was chosen
by Commanders who were confident that there would be little, if any, resistance along the German
front. The attack began after the detonation of two huge mines placed under German lines, the
explosion of which could be heard in London. This, another flaw in scheme, only served to inform
German forces that an attack was coming. The assault consisted of twenty seven divisions,
Themes In The Passing Of Grandison
Passing as Seen Through the Lenses of Grandison and Peola
African Americans have suffered a lot of racism and hatred throughout society. In The Passing of
Grandison the slave Grandison outsmarted his master and his family into attaining his freedom.
In this story, Grandison is not passing in the way others have passed , meaning he is not seen as
white. He passes by faking his allegiance to his master, and by doing this he ends up gaining his
freedom, not only for himself, but also his family. Imitation of life, Mammy Image in Life displays
Peola as a mulatto character who chooses to pass intentionally to be accepted in society. The authors
develop a contrast between passing in different settings through the characters Grandison in The
Passing of Grandison and Peola in The 1934 Version of the movie, Imitation of life, Mammy Image
in Film. Both works analyze similar themes such as racism and separation of family and examine
various characteristics of slave narratives such as tragic mulatto in The 1934 Version of the movie,
Imitation of life, Mammy Image in Film and trickster in The Passing of Grandison .
According to Viktor Osinubi, slaves did not engage in a rebellion but rather became fugitives.
The book begins with Dick Owens, the son of Colonel Owens, trying to help one of his father s
Negro man escape to Canada. In the early 1850s the Fugitive Slave law was passed. At times the
freedom of runaway slaves was short lived. Some were caught and returned to their masters
because of the Fugitive Slave Law that allowed masters to reclaim their runaway slaves (Osinubi,
2017). Dick Owens is described as a 22 year old man who is intelligent, amiable, and indolent. The
Passing Grandison begins with Dick Owens informing his sweetheart Charity Lomax about the
story behind a slave reaching freedom through a man s help who is now seeking trial. Charity is
attracted to the man on trial and Dick questions her reasoning. Dick wants to please Charity and
makes it his mission to win her love by engaging in something just as heroic (Stokes, 2011). This
leads Dick to attempt to help one of his father s slaves to freedom who happened to be Grandison.
Colonel Owens assume Grandison was not smart, so he trusted him to go
