Hello HOSA Families,

This letter is to share with you the details about our upcoming HOSA State
Conference on February 20th-22nd at the Hyatt Regency Portland at the
Oregon Convention Center. Students will have the opportunity to showcase
their health career knowledge and skills in competitive events, as well as earn recognition and attend
leadership sessions. It should be a fantastic opportunity for students to network, study, compete and
experience health science and leadership! Students will also be competing to become eligible to attend the
International Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN this June 18th-21st.

We will be staying overnight at the conference hotel. Students will leave BASE on Thursday, February 20th in
the afternoon and then return to BASE Saturday by lunch. Many competitive events are held Thursday
afternoon and Friday and there will be an awards ceremony on Saturday.

I know there may be conflicts with family and extracurricular activities and sports. Please know I understand
these conflicts well, but this conference is a once-a-year opportunity, so please contact me right away if your
student has a conflict and what the best plan should be in terms of transportation to/from activities and
carpooling.

We anticipate having over 100 BASE students attending our conference this year and will likely be one of the
largest school groups at the conference. We want this event to go smoothly, so here are a few other details:

✔ Conference Fees: SLC Fees are $125 a student. This includes conference registration, hotel and bus
transportation. A significant portion of our Biomedical Health Science CTE grant money is spent lowering
this cost from the original $260 fee. See Ms. Harris if financial assistance is needed to help cover this fee.
✔ Conference Dress Code: Check out hosa.org for the Conference Dress Code. Students MUST follow
these guidelines while at the conference. Check Goodwill for navy blue or black blazers, they usually have
a ton. Old Navy, TJ Maxx and Target often have reasonably priced blazers. Please wear comfortable
shoes. Students are responsible for dressing appropriately AT ALL TIMES.
✔ Forms: You will receive BSD Fieldtrip forms, and the HOSA Permission/Medical Release Form and the
HOSA Code of Conduct form. Please return it to Mrs. Harris ASAP.
✔ Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner: Students will need money for food while on this trip. We will eat at nearby
restaurants. Students are encouraged to bring their own snacks and simple breakfast items. Students
usually spend $10-20 per meal. Please plan for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners.
✔ Transportation: Students will ride the bus from BASE to the hotel on Thursday after lunch and then we
will return to BASE on Saturday by 12pm.
✔ Hotel: All accommodations will be arranged and paid by BASE and there is nothing you need to do.
Students will stay 4 students to a room. Please discuss appropriate hotel guest behavior with your
student. Boys and Girls will be in separate rooms and there will be a curfew enforced.
✔ Online Testing: Students will be taking their qualifying online tests at BASE Jan 27th-Feb. 5th. The test
schedule will be available end of January. These test scores will be combined with overall skill scores for
most skill related events, so it’s important to do well.
✔ More Info: See the HOSA Conference Registration Guide at oregonhosa.org with any extra details you
might need.

Please email me if you have any questions or concerns. This is one of the highlights of my year and I know this
will be a great leadership experience for our students!

Thank you,
