Problem: In Ryanne’s Buco Tart, the owner is interested to know the amount
of time it takes her salesladies to assist their customer. On a particular day,
she asked her store manager to record the service times for 15 customers.
The times are given below (to the nearest minute).

E. Generalization:
MEASURES OF POSITION FOR UNGROUPED DATA
 Quartile – the score points which divide a distribution into four equal parts.
Twenty-five percent (25%) of the distribution fall below the first quartile, fifty
percent (50%) fall below the second quartile, and seventy-five percent (75%)
fall below the third quartile.
 Decile – the nine score points which divide the distribution into 10 equal
parts.
 Percentile – the ninety-nine score points which divide a distribution into one
1
hundred equal parts so that each part represents of the data set. They
100
are used to characterize values according to the percentage below them.
F. Evaluation. (For Average/Fast Learners)
Direction: Give the correct answer of the following.

1. It is a nine score points which divide the distribution into 10 equal parts.
a. percentile b. quartile c. deciles
2. The ninety-nine score points which divide the distribution into 100 equal parts so
1
that each part represents of the data set.
100
a. percentile b. quartile c. deciles
3. The score points which divide a distribution into four equal parts.
a. percentile b. quartile c. deciles
For numbers 4 and 5, use the following data.
 The following test scores of a random sample of ten students:
35, 42, 40, 28, 15, 23, 33, 20, 18, and 28.
 Write your interpretation of the result.

G. Values Integration: For whatever position you hold . . . lowest rank, midmost rank, or
highest rank, your prerogative in dealing with people is humility.

V. Assignment:
1. Study in advance quartile for grouped data, give one example, identify what is asked
in the problem and give the correct answer.

The key difference between percentage and percentile is
the percentage is a mathematical value presented out of 100 and
percentile is the per cent of values below a specific value. The
percentage is a means of comparing quantities. A percentile is
used to display position or rank.
Certainly! Understanding percentiles is essential in statistics and data
analysis. Let me break it down further:

Imagine you have a dataset of, say, exam scores from a class of students.
Now, let's say you want to find out how well a particular student performed
compared to the rest of the class. This is where percentiles come into play.

A percentile is a way to measure where a particular value stands within a

dataset. When you say "percentile is the per cent of values below a specific
value," it means that if you have a certain value in your dataset, the
percentile tells you what percentage of the data falls below that value.

Here's an example to illustrate:

Let's say you have a dataset of 100 exam scores, and you want to find out
the 70th percentile score. This means you want to know the score below
which 70% of the scores fall.

So, if the 70th percentile score is 85, it means that 70% of the students
scored 85 or lower, and 30% scored higher than 85.

In simpler terms, if you rank all the scores from lowest to highest, the 70th
percentile score is the score that separates the bottom 70% of the scores
from the top 30%.

Percentiles are helpful because they provide a way to understand the

distribution of data and identify where specific values stand relative to others
in the dataset. They're especially useful when dealing with large datasets or
comparing individual data points to a larger population.
