I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils expected to;
a. Solve 3-4 digit number with regrouping
b. Write the numbers correctly according to their place value; and
c. Work cooperatively in class during the activities and discussions.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Subtracting 3-4 digit numbers with regrouping
Reference: www.k5learning.com.BECPLCL1.1.3.2
Materials: manila paper, marker, laptop, TV
Value: cooperation

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
To start our day, for us to be guided by His
presence, let us stand and pray. Jesusa, please
lead the prayer. Yes teacher, let’s all bow our head and feel the
presence of the Lord. Lord, bless each and every
student here, as well as our teacher, as we
embark on another day of learning. Please give us
clear minds and open heart so we can grasp the
knowledge and lessons set before us. Help us to
be attentive, and let your wisdom guide us in our
studies. Amen.
Thank you, Jesusa.

2. Greetings
Good afternoon children, how are you today? Good afternoon teacher, we’re good teacher!

I’m very happy to hear that

3. Checking of Attendance
Is everyone present today, miss Nicolle? Yes teacher!

Very good! I’m glad to hear that you all are

present today.

4. Drill
So, as you can see class I’m holding 5 piece of
bond paper here. All you have to do is answer
each paper as fast as you can and after that, you
will go to the board to look if your answer is
correct. Please raise your right hand if you the Yes teacher!
answer. Do you understand?

Okay then, let’s begin. 43 51 70 73 33

43 51 70 73 33 - 16 - 34 - 43 - 25 - 26
- 16 - 34 - 43 - 25 - 26 27 17 27 48 7

5. Motivation
And now we are going watch a song titled
Math Dali.
(the teacher will play the Math Dali song)
Yes teacher!
Did you enjoy it?

I’m glad to hear that, now let me ask you a

question about math dali, what do they say - it says that, if you might be having trouble in
about having a trouble when solving problem? math don’t hesitate to ask for help and don’t be
afraid to make mistakes.

Very good!

So, do you have any idea now, what is our topic - mathematics
for today?

Yes, very good

- solving problems
What do we usually we do in math?

Okay, very good!

B. Presentation
Subtracting numbers with regrouping.
557 557
- 342 - 342
215

500 + 50 + 7 = 557
- 300 + 40 + 2 = 342

Arrange the numbers according to their place

value in a vertical manner. Start with the one's
place. If the number in the bottom is higher than
the top number, borrow 1 from the tens column
that gets combined to the one's place number.
Subtract the number at the one's place.

C. Discussion
Let me read you a story and after that, you will
be answering a questions about in this story. Are Yes teacher!
you guys excited?

“There is a young girl whose name is Elsa, she is

kind and an industrious child. She is already in
Grade 3 pupil. She loves reading books. rather
than playing around.

One day, early in the morning, after doing the

house chores she starts reading book that has
345 pages. After a week, she finished reading the
123 pages.

How many pages of the book she needs to read

to finish the book?”
Now, I will call someone to pick a question inside
this box. Are you guys ready? Yes teacher!

Jasminne, Joanna, Micah, Ana Jane, Edimae,

please come in front and pick a question.

Jasminne’s question: What kind of hobby that

Elsa love? - Elsa loves reading

Joanna’s question: What is the conflict of the

short story? - the conflict is the remaining pages of the book.

Micah’s question: What kind of process that you

need to apply to solve the problem? - subtraction

Ana Jane’s question: How many pages did Elsa

read after a week? -Elsa read 123 pages

Edimae’s question: What is the total pages of the

book? - 345 pages

Very good children!

As I was said earlier, in order for us to solve the

problem, we can use subtraction but always
remember that we need to arrange it in their
place value. Do you understand? Yes teacher

Let us now arrange the number of pages that Elsa

read and the remaining pages that she needs to
read.

Let's apply the regrouping, breaking it down. into

it's ones tens hundreds

Hundreds Tens Ones

300 40 5

Hundreds Tens Ones

100 20 3

H T O
3 4 5
1 2 3
2 2 2

Also we can solve this in this form.

345
- 123
222

So, how many pages that Elsa needs to read to

finish reading the book? - 222 teacher

Very good!
How are we going to check if our answer is
correct? - addition teacher

Correct! Just simply add the answer to the

subtrahend.

D. Generalization
So now because you are so good for today's
activity. Let me ask you again, how are you going
to subtract 3 to 4 digits numbers with
regrouping? - First you need to arrange it according to its
place value before you proceed in solving
process. You will start solving from ones, tens,
hundreds and thousands.

Exactly! Very good!

E. Application
And now, get 1/4 sheet of paper and solve the
following.

1695 5539 3984 9073 4951 1695 5539 3984 9073 4951
- 243 - 820 - 662 - 521 - 76 - 243 - 820 - 662 - 521 - 76
1452 4719 3322 8552 4875

IV. Evaluation
Solve this problems:

1. 5484
- 6367
