Weekly Study Plan with Free Resources and Vocabulary

Day 1: Reading (Lesen) + Writing (Schreiben) + Vocabulary

 Lesen (30 minutes)

o Deutsche Welle - Learn German: Offers free beginner-level texts with exercises.

o Lingua.com: Short reading texts for beginners, with comprehension exercises.

o Task: Read a simple article, underline unfamiliar words, and add them to your
vocabulary list.

 Schreiben (30 minutes)

o Task: Write a short paragraph using the new vocabulary you learned from the
reading. Aim for 5-10 sentences about a simple topic (your day, a hobby, etc.).

o Use Write & Improve (for automated feedback).

 Vocabulary (15-20 minutes)

o Use Anki (flashcard app) to create cards for new words you’ve encountered. Practice
these flashcards daily.

o Alternatively, use Memrise (free version) for vocabulary sets at your level.

Day 2: Listening (Hören) + Speaking (Sprechen) + Vocabulary

 Hören (30-45 minutes)

o GermanPod101 YouTube Channel: Free lessons with beginner dialogues.

o Slow German: Simple, slow-paced podcasts for beginners.

o Task: Listen to a short dialogue, write down key words, and note how they’re used in
context.

 Sprechen (15-30 minutes)

o Use HelloTalk (free version) or Tandem to practice basic conversations with native
speakers.

o Task: Speak about daily life topics, focusing on using newly learned vocabulary.

 Vocabulary (15 minutes)

o Use Quizlet to study new words related to the dialogues you listened to.

Day 3: Grammar + Writing (Schreiben) + Vocabulary

 Grammar (30-45 minutes)

o Lingolia German: Free grammar lessons and exercises.

o Deutsche Welle - Grammar Lessons: Free grammar modules for A1 learners.

o Task: Focus on one specific grammar rule (e.g., verb conjugations, definite articles).

 Schreiben (15-30 minutes)


o Task: Write a paragraph using the grammar rule you studied, while integrating new
vocabulary.

 Vocabulary (15 minutes)

o Practice with Memrise or Anki to reinforce words you’ve learned.

Day 4: Reading (Lesen) + Listening (Hören) + Vocabulary

 Lesen (30-45 minutes)

o News in Slow German: Beginner-friendly news stories.

o Task: Read one news story, underline new words, and practice pronunciation by
reading out loud.

 Hören (15-30 minutes)

o Deutschlernen mit DW - Deutschtrainer: Audio for learning German phrases with


context.

o Task: Listen to short audio clips and repeat sentences to practice pronunciation.

 Vocabulary (15 minutes)

o Add new words from your reading and listening sessions to Anki or Quizlet, and
review daily.

Day 5: Speaking (Sprechen) + Writing (Schreiben) + Vocabulary

 Sprechen (30-45 minutes)

o Use Italki or HelloTalk for free conversation practice.

o Task: Practice daily conversation topics, focusing on using the new vocabulary you’ve
accumulated.

 Schreiben (15-30 minutes)

o Write a short text about the topic you discussed while speaking. Use the new
vocabulary to enhance your text.

 Vocabulary (15 minutes)

o Practice flashcards in Memrise or Anki. Review the most frequent words used in your
conversation practice.

Day 6: Listening (Hören) + Reading (Lesen) + Vocabulary

 Hören (30 minutes)

o YouTube - Learn German with Jenny: Watch A1 videos and note how words are
pronounced.

o Task: Listen to a video or podcast and jot down 5-10 new words.

 Lesen (30 minutes)

o Read a simple blog post or short story for beginners on Lingua.com.


o Task: Write down unknown words and find their meanings.

 Vocabulary (15 minutes)

o Review and practice your vocabulary list from the day’s reading and listening
activities on Quizlet or Anki.

Day 7: Review Day + Rest

 Review (1 hour)

o Go over your vocabulary list from the week using Anki or Memrise.

o Review grammar notes, re-read articles, and listen again to previous podcasts.

 Task: Summarize what you’ve learned in a short paragraph or record yourself speaking about
it.
