German Learning Plan: From Basic to Advanced (Fast-Track)
Phase 1: Weeks 1-2 (Basics)
Goal: Get familiar with pronunciation, greetings, simple grammar, and core vocabulary.
Daily Plan (30-60 mins/day)
1. Listening & Speaking (15 mins)
 - App: Duolingo or Mondly
 - Practice greetings: Hallo! Wie geht's? Ich heisse...
 - YouTube: "Learn German with Anja" (Beginner series)
2. Vocabulary (10 mins)
 - Tool: Anki flashcards (numbers, colors, days, family)
3. Grammar & Writing (15-20 mins)
 - Learn personal pronouns, "sein" and "haben," basic present tense
 - Practice writing: Simple sentences like "Ich bin... Ich habe..."
4. Speaking Practice (optional)
 - App: HelloTalk or Tandem (chat with natives)
 - Mirror talk: Speak to yourself in German
Phase 2: Weeks 3-4 (Foundation Building)
Focus:
- Grammatical cases: Nominative and Accusative
- Vocabulary: Food, directions, emotions
- Form longer sentences: Ich gehe heute ins Kino.
Phase 3: Month 2-3 (Intermediate)
Focus:
- Past tense (Perfekt) and modal verbs (koennen, muessen, wollen, duerfen)
- Read graded readers (A2-B1 level)
- Watch "Easy German" on YouTube for authentic conversations
Phase 4: Month 4+ (Advanced)
Focus:
- Complex grammar: Konjunktiv II (subjunctive), Passive voice
- Reading: DW.com, German novels, essays
- Listening: German podcasts, news, movies with subtitles
- Writing: Short essays, opinion pieces, formal and informal emails
Optional Tools:
- Flashcards: Custom Anki decks (vocabulary by theme)
- Language Exchange: HelloTalk, Tandem
- Grammar Guide: Deutsche Welle Grammar Trainer or "Hammer's German Grammar"
Tips for Success:
