Learner's Activity Sheet: Science (Quarter IV - Week 1)
Dear Learner,
Good day!
In this week, you are expected to explain ingestion, absorption,
assimilation, and excretion. (S8LT-Iva-13)

Activity 2 Instructions: Match the column A with column B. Write only
the letter of the correct answer. (10points)
COLUMN A COLUMN B
_____1. Mouth A. Functions as digestive organ by facilitating
the movement of food during mastication
(chewing) and assisting swallowing.
_____2. Stomach B. Use for eating and speaking, also helps us
to bite, chew and swallow.
_____3. Small intestine C. It is a hollow muscular tube that’s
transport saliva, liquids, and foods from the
mouth to the stomach.
_____4. Tongue D. Functions mainly to partially digest food
by grinding and mixing it with gastric
secretions.
_____5. Esophagus E. It carries out most of the digestive process,
absorbing almost all the nutrients you get
from the foods into your blood streams.
Activity 3
2
It is consuming something orally, whether it be food, drink, medicine,
or other substance.
The first step of digestion:
Bolus: a round mass of something, especially of chewed food in the mouth
or alimentary canal.
Mastication: the process of chewing.
What is Absorption?
Digested food molecules are absorbed in the small intestine. This
means that they are pass through the wall of small intestine and into our
bloodstream. Once there, the digested food molecules are carried around the
body to where they are needed.
What is Assimilation?
Assimilation is the process of transport and use of absorbed nutrients.
Is the process where nutrients are taken from the blood and into the
cells.
What is Excretion?
It is a process in which metabolic waste is eliminated from an
organism. In vertebrates this is primarily carried out by the lungs, kidneys
and skin. This is in contrast with secretion, where the substance may have
specific tasks after leaving the cell.
The importance of excretion lies in the fact that it regulates a
systematic working of all the body organs and keep us healthy. For steady
bowels, it is important to eat healthy and regularly exercise daily and drink
lots of water.

_____5. Absorption E. The process of transport and used of absorbed
nutrients.
Instructions: Select only the letter of the correct answer.
