Modulus , Argument and Forms of a Complex Number

1. Represent the following complex numbers on the argand diagram and find the modulus and

argument of each: (a) 5, (b) 2i (c) 1 + i (d) 3 + 2i (e) 1 + 4i (f) 1 - 2i (g) -2 - i (h) -4 + i

(i) -2 - 5i

(2) If z1 = 3 - i , z2 = 1 + 4i , z3 = -4 + ishow the following on the argand diagram

(a) z1 + z2 (b) z2 - z3 (c) z1 - z3

(3) Express the following complex numbers in the forms r(cosq + i sinq ) and reiq : (a) 1 - i

(b) 3 - i (c) -2 (d) -4i (e) -1 - 2i (f) 1 - 3i

(4) Express the following in the form a + bi (a) 2(cos p4 + i sin p4 ) (b) 4(cos p6 + i sin p6 )
(c) cos 23p + i sin 23p

(5) Express 2 + 3i in modulus argument form.
