Description

1. - INTRODUCTION

The CER-20 is a high quality level switch with capacitive element.

The switch is intended for controlling liquid levels in tanks.
The switch can be used as a sensing device in most liquids with low or medium conductivity.
This will include all oil products, most chemicals and a lot of other liquids.

4. - DESCRIPTION

1) Measuring principle
At the end of the sensor tube it is a tip made of Teflon, see Fig. 2. In the Teflon tip there is
an inner electrode and the capacitance is measured from this inner electrode to the surroundings.
In dry conditions, the capacitance is from the inner electrode to the metal in the sensor tube.
This means low capacitance value.
If it is liquid around the sensor tip the capacitance is from the inner electrode to the liquid. This
means increased capacity. The increase depends on the conductivity of the liquid.

2) Limitations
The level switch is not recommended to be used on good conducting liquids making a layer on
the tip of the sensor. After been in a good conducting liquid, this layer will short-circuit the
element. "Wet condition" will not disappear with the dry sensor tip. The sensor must be cleaned
before dry condition occurs.

3) Electrical description
Fig. 4 shows a block diagram. Supplied voltage 24 VDC stabilized to 12V for internal use. One
arm of the bridge consists of resistors, the other arm of a fixed capacitor and the capacitor in
the sensor tip. When the sensor tip is dipped into a liquid, the capacitance increase and the
signal from the bridge is increasing. This signal is amplified in a charging amplifier and the output
from this amplifier is controlling the alarm relay, with a potential free changeover contact output.

5. - INSTALLATION

Important! Minimum 15 mm free space in all directions from Teflon tip to tank wall or
other obstacles!

For this reason, the level switch must be installed 25~30mm distance from fitting, we recommend.
We marked installation point on the pipe of level switch.

6. - OPERATION METHOD

After installation and power to the level switch, using the "test push button" can test the unit.
The level switch is delivered in two functional versions, the CER-20/R and the CER-20/N.

Description of the normal version, the CER-20/N :

- With dry sensor tip, the relay will be disconnected and the LED will be OFF.
- When a liquid reaches the tip, the relay will be operated and the LED will be ON.
- With the sensor tip dry, pressing the test button on the signal converter inside the connection
box, which can perform a functional test.

When this button is operated, wet condition is simulated and the level switch will respond, see
table below.
The CER-20/R will have the opposite function.

7. - MAINTENANCE

If the CER-20 is not working correctly, you can solve the problem with the comp. volume(R1)
beside of the power terminal. (See fig. 3 connection diagram)

Table 2. Level switch Maintenance Method

Working Condition Cause Action

Level switch is working Sensing range is too Turn the comp. volume(R1) to
even though oil is not flow sensitive anti-clockwise till LED is OFF.

Level switch is not working Sensing range is Turn the comp. volume(R1) to
even though oil is flowing non-sensitive clockwise till LED is ON.

CAUTION.
- When you change the sensing range, you must be turned the comp. volume(R1) slowly.
- You don't need to adjust the sensti. volume(R2). It just need for manufacture step.
