A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE V

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, 75% of the pupils should be able to:
a. identify the different animals that belong to Echinoderms and
Arthropods;
b. give examples of animals that belong to Echinoderm and
Arthropods; and
c. appreciate the importance of Echinoderms and Arthropods in the
ecosystem through a video clip.

II. Subject Matter: Echinoderms and Arthropods

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Prayer

2. Checking of Attendance
Who is absent today class? None.

Very good!

3. Health Inspection
Before we start our lesson, let’s have first
our health inspection.

May I request the leader of each group to (Leader will now inspect and report.)
help me check or inspect the nails of your
group mate.

Why is it important for us to check our nails It is important to check our nails or other
or other parts of our body? parts of our body because through these, we
can avoid or prevent different diseases.

What else? Through these we will become a healthy

person.

What is the best thing that we should do Take a bath regularly.

every day?

B. Motivation
Today we are going to discuss another
interesting topic in science and I know that
you will enjoy while learning. Do you like
that? Yes ma’am!

But before that let us have a review with

our past lesson. What was our past lesson
all about? Our past lesson was all about mollusks.

Mollusks belong to what group? Invertebrates Ma’am.

Ok, so what are invertebrates? Group of animals without backbones.

Very good!

C. Presentation

Our lesson for today is about

Echinoderms and Arthropods which also
belongs to Invertebrates.

D. Lesson Proper
(Present video clip)

Echinoderms come from the Greek word

which means “spiny skin”. Echinoderms have
an inside skeleton and structures called tube
feet which they use to walk and to get food.

Who can give me examples of Echinoderms?

Yes, Hae? Starfish

Very good!

Another. Yes, Jackson? Sand dollar

Very good!

Yes, JaeBeom? Sea cucumber

Very good!

I see Mark raising his hand. Yes, Mark? Sea urchin

Very good!

Yes, Eun Woo? Brittle star

Very good!
Starfishes are also called sea stars.
Sea Cucumbers resemble warty cucumbers.
Sea urchins and sand dollars are round and
rayless.

(Present video clip)

Arthropods meaning “joined legs”.

All arthropods share three common
characteristics.
1. Exoskeleton
2. Segmented body
3. Joined appendage

From the video you’ve watch, what are the

various groups of animals make up Phylum
Arthropoda? Crustaceans, centipedes, arachnids, and
insects.
Very good!

Crustaceans are arthropods with a hard

exoskeleton, two pairs of antennae, mouth
parts that are used for crushing and
grinding food, and five pairs of walking legs.

What are the animals that belong to this Crabs, crayfish, shrimps, lobsters, and
group? barnacles.

Very good! So, lets go to the second group.

What is the difference between centipedes Centipides have a pair of legs in a segment,
and millipedes? while millipedes have two pairs of legs in
segment.
Arachnids- their body is divided into two
parts: the cephalothorax and the abdomen.
They have four pairs of walking legs.

What are the examples of animals that

belong to this group? Spiders, scorpions, mites and ticks.

Insects – the body of an insect is divided into

three parts: head, chest, and abdomen. They
have three pairs of walking legs attached to
the chest part.
Examples of these are? Butterflies, mosquitoes, dragonflies….
E. Enrichment Activities

I have here different kinds of animals and

identify what group thus these animals belong
through group activity. Classify the animals
according to their major group, sub-group and
name of the animals.
