SSC Public Examinations – Age exemption for candidate appearing
for the examinations – Policy decision of the Government –
Instructions – Issued.

The attention of the Director of School Education, Hyderabad/ the Director


of Government Examinations, Hyderabad is invited to the references cited and
he is informed that the Government have taken policy decision on age exemption
for candidates appearing for the VII class common examinations and SSC (Xth
class) public examinations as detailed below.

(i) For VIIth class

As per orders issued in GOMs.No.84, Edn (Exams) Deptt, dt:22.03.1995,


the candidate who have completed 11 years of age as on 31 st August of the
academic year is eligible to appear for VII class Common Examination and
District Educational Officers are competent to grant age exemption up to 1 ½
years to appear for the said examination.

(ii) For SSC (Xth Class) Examination,

As per orders issued in GOMs.No.84, Edn (Exams) Deptt, dt:22.03.1995,


read with GO.MS.No.195, Edn (Exams) Deptt, dt:28.07.1997 the candidate who
completed age of 14 years on or before 31st August of academic year in which
examination is held is eligible to appear for SSC examination. The District
Educational Officers are competent to grant exemption of age up to one and half
year to enable the candidates to appear for the S.S.C Public Examination.

2. As per the orders issued vide memo No.5459/K2/83-8, dt. 7.1.1984 the
Commissioner for Government Examinations, A.P., Hyderabad is
competent to grant exemption from the prescribed age in respect of x
class students in whose cases the shortage of age is more than one year
upto limit of 2 years.

3. Further as per Memo.No.71/Exams/87-1, dt.11.02.1987 the cases of age


relaxation of students upto one year and below 2 years shall be
considered at the level of the Director of School Education and the cases
involving 2 years and above only may be referred to Government with the
specific recommendation of Director of School Education, Hyderabad.
4. As per orders issued vide G.O.ms.No.40, Edn (Ser.V) Deptt, dt.7-05-2002,
powers have also been delegated to the Head Master of Upper Primary
Schools to condone the age relaxation to VII Class students and also to
the Head Masters of High School to condone the age relaxation to VII
Class and X Class Students.

5. It is observed that the Director of School Education, Hyderabad/the


Director of Government Examinations, Hyderabad is referring the cases of
age condonation beyond two years to Government for issue of orders.

6. In orders to prevent such requests and as a policy any body not below the
age of 14 years should be allowed as the two year relaxation given to the
Director of Government Examinations, Hyderabad is quite reasonable.

7. In view of the above Government after careful consideration of the matter


have taken a policy decision not to consider age relaxation beyond two
years and the concerned authorities shall not entertain such cases and
may be rejected straightaway.

8. Hence the Director of School Education, Hyderabad/the Director of


Government Examinations, Hyderabad is requested not to send such
proposals for age relaxation beyond two years to Government hence forth.

9. The Director of School Education, Hyderabad is also requested to issue


instructions to all the District Educational Officer’s etc., accordingly.
