About this audiobook
“A pure delight . . . Romantic, poignant, and spellbinding.”— REBECCA ROSS, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals
“Fiercely feminist and deeply romantic, Psyche and Eros has the allure of an old fable and the epic quality of ancient myth, tinged with a provocative, modern wit. Passionate and deftly-told.” — AVA REID, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Study in Drowning and The Wolf and the Woodsman
Has the god of love finally met his match?
Prepare to fall for this glorious reimagining of Greek mythology about a god struck by his own cursed arrow and the mortal woman who teaches him what love truly means
Psyche, princess of Mycenae, was born with a prophecy that she will one day conquer a great monster. Rejecting her royal duties, Psyche spends her youth mastering blade and bow, preparing for her destiny. Tales of her beauty and rebellious nature reach even the goddess Aphrodite, who decides to teach Psyche a lesson.
Aphrodite commands Eros, the god of desire, to deliver a cruel love curse. After eons watching humanity misuse his gifts, the last thing Eros wants is to become involved in the chaos of the mortal world. But when he accidentally pricks himself with the arrow intended for Psyche, Eros finds himself doomed to yearn for a woman who will be torn from him the moment their eyes meet.
Thrown together by fate, headstrong Psyche and world-weary Eros will face challenges greater than they could have ever imagined. As the Trojan War begins and divine powers try to keep them apart, the pair must determine: could this be true love, or is that only a myth?
A joyous and subversive tale of gods, monsters, and the human heart and soul, Psyche and Eros dazzles the senses while exploring notions of trust, sacrifice, and what it truly means to be a hero. With unforgettably vivid characters, spellbinding prose, and delicious tension, Luna McNamara has crafted a shimmering and propulsive debut novel about a love so strong it defies the will of Olympus.
“A riotous adventure . . . McNamara strikes the perfect note of irreverent humor and furious emotion in this fabulous novel. An absolute joy!”— JENNIFER SAINT, bestselling author of Ariadne
""An enthralling tale of adventure, romance, and star-crossed lovers.” — SUE LYNN TAN, bestselling author of Daughter of the Moon Goddess

“Mortality has a way of inflicting purpose on you, whether you like it or not”

This was such a fun read! Of course it is not as faithful to the original Greek mythology, because the characters are written to have more depth and be more attuned to a reader’s feelings so don’t read for accuracy, but read for the fun of it! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

If you like romance, if you like fantasy, and if you also like Greek mythology, this book will delight you.
Psyche and Eros is a retelling of a classic myth. Although it mentions several gods from Greek mythology, the main focus lies on the curse that affects Eros, the god of desire.
Psyche is the princess of Mycenae, and since her birth, a prophecy looms over her: she will defeat a monster feared by the gods. Contrary to everything socially acceptable for a girl, her father Alcaeus will seek the best teachings in archery among other weapons, and this is how Atalanta will train Psyche, but... will this be the girl's destiny?
Eros is the god of desire and has no interest in humanity, which is why when his adoptive mother Aphrodite asks him to shoot a cursed arrow at Psyche, he accepts without question, and inadvertently ends up piercing himself with that arrow, becoming completely enamored with Psyche, a mortal after all.
The book completely captured me. Narrated in two voices, it mixes gods and humans, referencing several well-known myths. I greatly enjoyed seeing how the stories intertwined and discovering the characters, who, I must say, are wonderfully created.
I loved it. I liked reading about a strong, empowered woman who fights for what she wants. Psyche is a heroine who wishes to fight and learn, and also, of course, learn to love, which was not in her plans.
Although the novel departs from the original myth with modifications to plots and characters, it manages to keep your eyes glued to the book.
As a final comment, I will say that it exceeded my expectations and will be a book I read and reread without getting bored; I enjoyed it that much.... (Translated from Spanish) - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Psyche is a young woman whose destiny is to be a heroine, but once this is fulfilled, her parents begin to search for a husband for her. On the other hand, we have Eros experimenting with his arrows and gaining a few enemies. Aphrodite assigns him a mission to curse one of his arrows and make Psyche fall in love with the first person she sees, but they can never meet. Unfortunately, it is Eros who ends up cursed by his own arrow and falls hopelessly in love with Psyche. Unable to exchange glances with her, his friend Zephyr kidnaps her, and Eros decides to disguise himself as Cupid and tell Psyche that they are married but can only meet in complete darkness. From here, we will follow Psyche on her adventure as she completes three impossible tasks set for a mortal by Aphrodite. If you like Greek mythology, you will love it. The legend of Psyche and Eros is told through these two characters, allowing us to know them before and after their relationship and to observe two points of view of this legend. The explanations given about certain secondary characters are very interesting, as they make you empathize more with their stories. I really like the character of Psyche, who will do everything possible to achieve her goals, as well as other secondary characters like Zephyrus. It's a novel that introduces you to Greek mythology from a different perspective. It encourages you to keep reading; it's very addictive. (Translated from Spanish) - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

When it comes to talking about literary licenses, I liked that the author played and took risks with this work. I know many lovers of history and myths may want to burn me at the stake, but we are talking about a myth that we cannot actually verify happened. So, this new version does not bother me entirely, because it remains faithful to key points of the story.
And this is where I want to get. I mention that in this case we will have a brief glimpse of the beginning of the Trojan War, which will help us get oriented. And although our story is parallel, there are small nods and appearances of characters that will help us situate ourselves. Psyche loses part of her arrogance on the hero's journey she must undertake to regain what she has lost. But Eros does not lag behind either. Both must grow and face enemies, fight for what they want to achieve that end they both desire so much, which I love. Making PSYCHE AND EROS a story that is truly enjoyable from beginning to end.
Luna McNamara has surprised me with her pen and creativity, and even though there were moments that made me grit my teeth, I can't help but say that I am eager to read something else from her, and I look forward to it. (Translated from Spanish)
