""A summer read with bite.”—NPR
Disgraced model-writer Bianca Bridge can’t stand hotshot makeup maven Obadiah Cortland. And he lets her know the feeling is mutual. But when working together is their last resort, they must navigate scandal, revenge, and unexpected affection to unlock the beauty that’s found in redemption.
Getting a second chance is a beautiful thing…
Bianca Bridge is like an eyeshadow palette. She's a vibrant kaleidoscope of big personality and even bigger dreams, with a tendency towards messiness and fallout. Case in point: losing her job and ruining her reputation by having an affair with a married government official.
Her fiercely confident and tyrannical new boss Obadiah Cortland—a legend in Trinidad's beauty scene—is like a statement red lipstick. Dubbed the God of Good Looks, Obadiah has perfected his hotshot façade after years of navigating the island's rigid class barriers. He knows as well as Bianca that the tiniest smudge can ruin your image.
When Bianca's ex threatens both their futures, they must find a way to work together to save everything they care about. But as they put their differences aside, will they find they actually bring out the best in each other?

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a joy to read, with well-developed characters and a beautiful interweaving of stories. The audio book adaptation is excellent and highly recommended. While some readers were disappointed with the ending and felt the plot was somewhat rushed, overall, this book offers a meaningful exploration of love and relationships from an African perspective. The Trini accents in the narration are perfect and add to the beauty of the story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sep 22, 2023 So good! This book was fantastic. It tells the story of Trinidad and Tobago as it interweaves such a beautiful array of characters, histories and stories. The character development and transitions are absolutely amazing. And the narration was on POINT! I loved every minute of this audiobook.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Mar 12, 2024 The book is good, it got me researching about Trinidad and Tobago and I like the story, simple and yet makes you think about beauty, power, corruption. The only thing I didn’t like was the male narrator, I thought he was without rhythm and angry, made me want to change to the written book sometimes.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Jan 18, 2024 Good book; long winded; insightful to see the world of makeup and storyline was of the tales of two city’s-ish.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sep 22, 2023 This was one of those books where the story is amazing and you can’t put it down but the ending ruined it for me??? I just didn’t understand what was so important about ending it that way when there was so much potential for something meaningful. The plot was somewhat rushed but not in a way that made it bad. Anyway if you like reading peoples most inner most thoughts about love and relationships this is a good one from an African perspective.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sep 22, 2023 Very well written! Gave nuance to complicated characters. I loved it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sep 22, 2023 I have been able to grow along with the characters and this makes the story more relatable for me. Everyone will not have the experiences these characters have had, but most will have felt these same feelings. The journey was well worth my time, and a joy to take.
