"The extinction of indigenous languages is one of the most crucial concerns that our societies are facing nowadays. In Peru, there have been many efforts to protect them from disappearance but almost all of them are done without the support of ICT. In this paper, we describe the development process of a text-to-speech (TTS) system for Quechua, the most widely spoken indigenous language of the Americas [1], [2]. For this procedure, we used the Cluster Unit Selection Synthesizer of the Festival Speech Synthesis System. The new male synthetic voice for Quechua will find direct application as part of an assistive technology for
visually impaired and illiterate end users. To our knowledge, this Project is between the few ones making an attempt to develop a TTS system for an indigenous language in America and the first for Quechua."

This paper aims to systematize and analyse the artifacts pertaining to a variety of museum's collections, which iconography or morphology can be ascribed to depictions of characters holding or playing panpipes on Moche and Nasca ritual pottery. We start from the premise that these representations appear in a set of ceramic artifacts produced according to a rigid standardization, controlled by elites holding the political and religious power. Thus, the way these musicians are displayed on pottery can reveal much about their social role, the imaginary place they hold in the minds of the Moche and Nasca peoples, their relation to the worldview and with their local power structures, as well as the symbolism of this instrument to these societies in the Pre-Columbian Andes.

Las lakitas, instrumentos musicales aerófonos, cuyo origen está en Los Andes centrales aproximadamente siete mil años atrás, llegan a la zona de Arica hace más de mil quinientos años y desde entonces han experimentado numerosas modificaciones estéticas y prácticas entre otras. Hasta mediados del siglo XX fueron elaboradas con caña vegetal. Luego el Policloruro de Vinilo, material creado industrialmente con otros propósitos, fue puesto en su lugar.
Este artículo se despliega en tres áreas: (i) cómo sucedió el paso de la caña al vinilo en lakitas de Arica, (ii) cómo son entendidas las diferencias entre los instrumentos de ambos materiales y, (iii) qué es hacer roncar una lakita, principal virtud de este aerófono.
La hipótesis de este estudio propone que este cambio tecnológico se sostiene en una manera particular de pensar este instrumento y su musicalidad, la cual posee una larga data en los Andes y, que dicho cambio ha sido agenciado por sus propios fabricantes e intérpretes.

¿Podríamos acordar si existen “notas esenciales” que definan qué cosa es lo
“formativo”? ¿Ocupó únicamente un tiempo y/o un espacio definido? ¿Lo formativo
refiere a un solo modo de vida o acaso a un sistema adaptativo? ¿Concepto categorial o
realidad empírica? Cuestionamientos que sólo de manera excepcional fueron orientados
a entender los supuestos implícitos de los usos arqueológicos del término, hecho que ha
generado que nos hayamos movido en una polisemia de interpretaciones al momento de
relacionar los conceptos y la casuística. Sin embargo, la reflexión y discusión de este
recurso metodológico vuelve nuevamente a escena, confrontado por retrospectivas y reestudios
del conjunto de las prácticas arqueológicas en el Noroeste argentino, para lo
cual recurriremos particularmente a las potencialidades de casos de la historia socioarqueológica
de Laguna Blanca.

Llevando a cabo un análisis comparativo desde el arribo hasta el presente del instrumento siku y su expresión a Buenos Aires, en el presente artículo exploramos y describimos algunas consideraciones actuales de los sikuris de Buenos Aires. En base a observación participante desde la interpretación musical y realización de entrevistas, sugerimos que con el tiempo y afianzamiento de su práctica en esta metrópolis, las bandas de sikuris pasaron de dinámicas homogéneas de interpretación a una creciente heterogeneización sonoro-estilística.

Se presenta un sitio de probable filiación Inka identificado como Guayoay Vilca, huaca principal de la etnia Tarama (Albornoz 1967:30) en la montaña de Apohuayhuay, sierra central del Perú. Se revisa el panorama étnico durante el período Intermedio Tardío confrontando evidencias etnohistóricas y arqueológicas, con miras a identificar una posible zona de frontera entre las etnias Tarama y Xauxa. Se muestra que la ubicación del macizo de Apohuayhuay está en clara asociación con dos zonas de frontera, una cultural entre estas dos entidades étnicas, y otra natural que separa la sierra de Ricrán y la selva de Monobamba, ambas de profunda connotación simbólica para las poblaciones locales. Finalmente, se plantea la posible manipulación de esta doble frontera por parte de los Inka con fines de dominio ideológico mediante la edificación del sitio de Otorongo.

For a little over a decade we have been witnessing a profusion of discourses on autochthony — that is, an original belonging to a group or territory — in many parts of the world. A global approach to this question first requires a look at the principle of autochthony and its genealogy. Starting from African examples, places of prolific expression of the phenomenon, this article shows how autochthony plays the role of capital that can be invested, valued and profited from. The structure of this capital carries within itself the seeds of conflict. The article analyses how the stabilization of its value requires the execution of specific strategies. Among these strategies, I will focus in greater depth on voting. The relationship between capital, autochthony and elections will thus bring us back to debates that animate political science: in new municipalities, autochthony as capital is at the heart of candidate selection, suffrage, political participation and citizenship.

En el presente trabajo se desarrollan algunas reflexiones en torno al origen de la danza de los Auquish, ejecutada en los distritos de Huáchac, Manzanares y Chambará (provincias de Chupaca y Concepción, sección meridional del valle del Mantaro en la sierra central del Perú) durante los primeros días de enero de cada año. Luego de revisar las principales características de la danza prehispánica del guacon y sus relaciones con la Huaconada contemporánea según han planteado otros autores, se describen ciertos aspectos de la danza de los Auquish a partir de los testimonios de los propios ejecutantes de dicha expresión cultural. A modo de conclusiones preliminares, se propone que varios rasgos de la danza de los Auquish tienen sus orígenes remotos en la referida danza ancestral del guacon, así como su asociación con rituales de veneración a los ancestros y a momentos críticos dentro del calendario agrícola, destacando la necesidad de comprender los procesos históricos globales de las comunidades andinas a partir de las experiencias locales.

Desarrolla la evolución de la zampoña o siku en el Perú en formato historieta (comic), a partir de los estudios arqueomusicológicos de César Bolaños Vildoso.
Se hace un recorrido desde Caral hasta los Chincha y una breve revisión del instrumento musical y sus principales formas de ejecución. Además se incluye la notación musical de una marcha de Yunguyo.

Mineralogical analyses of clays, tempers and paints from contemporary sources in the vicinity of Quinua, Peru, were carried out by means of X-ray diffraction, microscopic examination and physical separation. The data indicates that (1) there is a substantial amount of mineralogical variability in these materials, (2) the differences between the clays and tempers consist of the differences between the relative amounts of plastics and non-plastics present in each of these kinds of materials, (3) the paints contain a mineral known for its superior spreading qualities. The study concludes that (1) the region had the ceramic resources to support a tradition of several polychrome styles like those made during the Peruvian Middle Horizon (a.d. 600–800), (2) ancient pastes made in the region had a great deal of mineralogical variability, (3) archaeologists should redefine their notion of ‘temper’, and (4) modern mineralogical differences between pastes tempered by the potter and those not tempered by the potter can also apply to ancient pastes of the region.

El encuentro de sikuris de escuelas secundarias es un espacio pensado para que los adolescentes se acerquen a las culturas originarias a través del siku y de la música sikuri. En este espacio, los participantes, interpretan los temas aprendidos con el siku que, en la mayoría de los casos, son construidos por ellos mismos. De esta forma comparten e intercambian sus experiencias educativas con otros alumnos de otras escuelas que realizan experiencias similares, dentro del ámbito de la escuela secundaria de la enseñanza formal.

This article explores visual imagery connected with the Christian rosary and its connotations of spiritual nourishment in European art and Andean ritual practices. Early eighteenth-century religious art inspired by a vision received by Isidoro of Seville, a Capuchin friar,
presented the Virgin Mary as the Divine Shepherdess with her flock of Christians, depicted as sheep with roses in their mouths. This imagery resonates in the flowering ceremony practised by Aymara pastoralists in Isluga, Chile. The floreo serves as a rite of passage for herd animals, its intention being to enhance their fertility by making them 'flower'. However the congruence between the visual codes produced by Europeans and Andeans conveys related but different social and moral messages. Whereas sheep can represent human beings in Christian art, they cannot stand in for human beings in Isluga, since Isluga people recognize that both human and herd animals require spiritual nourishment.

Is a composition for diatonic G siku and based on the Sambo Caporal groove. It is structured on a 14 beat pattern (4+4+4+2) even if in the chorus section it modulates to a 4/4 meter. Is a slow tempo composition structured on a 17 beat cycle divided into 4+5+4+4. Its harmony features suspended chords over a fixed dorian mode in A. It is a good piece for the development of  tone and tuning for the Andean diatonic siku Panpipe.
