Scoutisme

This article concern the Scout Troops and the monumental work written by Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell in 1908 "Scouting for boys". It contains some historical informations about the Baden-Powell's job, and a table with coat of arms of Scout troops, made with standard RGB colours. The text is written in Italian language, and the table is in Italian and in English.

Alors que le scoutisme rassemble actuellement environ 38 millions d'adhérents issus de 217 pays du monde, il n'est pas toujours vu d'un bon oeil. En effet, les scouts et guides sont parfois vivement critiqués pour leur côté fermé, parfois dit « intégriste ». Rituels spécifiques, uniformes, esprit de groupe, références religieuses, voilà des caractéristiques qui en font pâlir plus d'un. Certains font parfois le parallèle entre nos scouts et les Jeunesses hitlériennes. Mais qu'en est-il vraiment ? Il est vrai que la création officielle du scoutisme, en 1907, s'inscrit dans une période marquée par un contact étroit avec la religion. Mais les références au catholicisme ne font pas l'exclusivité, car en 2013, les scouts israélites fêtaient leurs 90 ans et que, depuis plus de 15 ans, des mouvements de jeunesse pour musulmans ont été mis sur pied à Bruxelles et à Charleroi. D'ailleurs, pour encourager les troupes multiconfessionnelles, les scouts de Belgique ont récemment abandonné la référence à Dieu. Ainsi, les scouts ne doivent plus s'engager devant Dieu, mais la promesse, en plus d'être volontaire, consiste à « vivre au mieux, chaque jour, les valeurs de la loi scoute ». Malgré ses efforts, le scoutisme fait encore l'objet de vives critiques concernant ses « pratiques ». Au-delà des coutumes, un événement ravive les « on-dit » : le 8 mars 2010, les services de renseignement intérieur du Royaume-Uni (MI5) transmettent aux archives nationales des documents déclassifiés, couvrant une période allant de 1937 à 1944. Après analyse, le Bureau mondial du Scoutisme constate essentiellement des notes des services de police sur les visites des membres de Jeunesses hitlériennes au Royaume-Uni. Sans plus attendre, la presse réagit : doit-on en conclure une rencontre entre Hitler et Baden-Powell ? À ce sujet, Jean-Jacques Gauthé 1 , magistrat français s'étant beaucoup intéressé à l'histoire du scoutisme, nous fait part de « communiqués de presse résumés de manière trop hâtive ».

Dans le but d’explorer les facteurs susceptibles d’influencer le profil des jeunes inscrits dans les mouvements de jeunesse, nous avons interrogé 163 scouts et guides issus de 12 unités rurales en Belgique francophone. Au travers d’une recherche exploratoire basée sur la littérature américaine, canadienne, française et chilienne, trois catégories de facteurs ont été envisagées en rapport avec les caractéristiques personnelles, familiales et celles induites par les pairs. Des descriptions, corrélations de B-Pearson et anovas ainsi que des analyses clusters nous ont permis de mettre en avant l’importance des influences familiales telles que l’appartenance antérieures des parents aux différents mouvements, leur niveau scolaire et statut relationnel. Nous avons aussi pu faire ressortir les relations induites par les pairs en raison de leur valorisation positive des activités et de leur participation. Enfin, les caractéristiques personnelles telles que l’âge et le genre des jeunes sont aussi ressorties comme influentes.

In order to explore the factors that influence the profile of young people enrolled in the youth movements, we interviewed 163 scouts and guides from 12 rural and urban units distributed throughout the french part of Belgium. Through an exploratory research based on American, Canadian, French and Chilean literature, three categories of factors were considered in relation to personal, family and peers. Descriptions, B-Pearson correlations, anova’s and cluster’s analyzes enabled us to highlight the importance of family influences such as parents earlier belonging to different movements, parental grade level and parental relationship status. We were also able to highlight the relationship induced by peers for their positive valuation of activities and participation. Finally, personal characteristics such as age and gender of young people also emerged as influential.

Con el fin de explorar los factores que influyen en el perfil de los jóvenes inscritos en los movimientos juveniles, se entrevistó a 163 scouts y guías de 12 unidades rurales y urbanas distribuidas en la parte francés hablante de Bélgica. A través de una investigación exploratoria sobre la base de la literatura americana, canadiense, francesa y chilena, tres categorías de factores fueron considerados en relación con las características personales, familiares y las que parecían inducidas por los amigos. Descripciones, correlaciones de B-Pearson, anovas ANOVA y analices cluster nos han permitido poner en evidencia la importancia de las influencias familiares, tales como padres antes pertenecientes a diferentes movimientos, el nivel de grado de los padres y su estado civil. También hemos sido capaces de poner de relieve la relación inducida por los amigos con la valoración positiva de las actividades y su participación. Por último, las características personales como la edad y el sexo de los jóvenes también surgieron como influyentes.

Katarzyna Marszałek: Family and Parenthood of Polish Girls Scouts and Polish Boy Scouts in the Years 1911–1939 and 1939–1945. [in:] „Przegląd Pedagogiczny”, no 1/2020, ISSN 1897-6557, s.318–334.

Abstract: The paper discusses the issues of family and parenthood in the education pedagogies of Polish scouting organisations in the years 1911–1939 and 1939–1945. It analyses source materials of Polish scouting organisations, the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association ZHP (Związek Harcerstwa Polskiego), the Polish Girl Scouts Organisation / Clover Association / Be Ready (Organizacja Harcerek / Związku Koniczyn / Bądź Gotów), the Grey Ranks (Szare Szeregi), the Polish Scouting Regiments (Hufce Polskie). In those years, there were different dominating pedagogies of educating Polish boy scouts and girl scouts. The pedagogies addressed to Polish girl scouts, focused on indoctrinating girls into the roles of mothers raising future genera¬tions and complementing the man. In the latter period, the bravery of women was included in those pedagogies, as well as their vocational training, but only in professions that were socially useful. Pedagogies addressed to Polish boy scouts were more stable. The following two types were alternately dominant: the soldier and the citizen, whereas the theme of family and parenthood is mentioned directly only in the period 1939–1945, in the Polish Scouting Regiments organisation.

Streszczenie: W artykule poruszono kwestie rodziny i rodzicielstwa w pedagogiach wychowania harcerskiego, skautowego, w latach 1911–1939, 1939–1945. Analizie poddano materiały źródłowe organizacji skautowych, Związku Harcerstwa Polskiego, Organizacji Harcerek/Związku Koniczyn/Bądź Gotów, Szarych Szeregów, Hufców Polskich. W analizowanych latach dominowały różne pedagogie wychowania harcerek i harcerzy. W pedagogiach adresowanych do harcerek i skautek akcentowano inkulturację do ról matki, wychowawczyni przyszłych pokoleń, która miała być uzupełnieniem mężczyzny. W drugim okresie pojawiły się wątki dzielności kobiet oraz przygotowanie do życia zawodowego, jednakże w zawodach, które są społecznie pożyteczne. Pedagogie, których adresatami byli harcerze i skauci, cechowała większa stałość. Naprzemiennie dominowały dwa typy: żołnierza i obywatela, wątek rodziny i rodzicielstwa pojawia się bezpośrednio tylko 1939–1945 w organizacji Hufce Polskie.

The official Spanish branch of the international Boy Scout movement, the Exploradores de España, was an instructive example of a nationalist association in Spain in the first third of the twentieth century. Employing a comparative perspective, this article studies its discourses and practices, its founders and leaders, its publications and activities, its internal conflicts and its evolution between 1912 and 1931. As in Britain and many other countries, the movement was endorsed by the royal family, and led by military officers and middle-class men; representatives of monarchist civil society. It shared nationalist and regeneracionista (from regenerationism) values, as an agent of nationalization throughout Spanish territory. Like other boy scout movements in Europe and America, it pursued the goal of making good patriots, with a knowledge of and ready to defend their fatherland: young hidalgos, the Spanish equivalent of the British gentlemen. Hence this study also explores the gender aspects of boy-scout ideals. Initially, the Spanish scouts were troubled by an intense religious conflict, which was won by Catholic sectors, so their nationalism became deeply conservative. During the 1920s, the movement was instrumental in the nation-building projects of different governments, especially under the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera (1923-1930). In short, it can be considered one of the main nationalizing efforts during this key period in modern Spanish history, and belies the image of supposed passivity and a lack of interest in national construction among Spain's ruling elites.

Résumé :
Cet article s’inscrit dans le champ de l’histoire des idées et des valeurs éducatives. Il s’intéresse à un pan de l’héritage du mouvement de l’Éducation Nouvelle, à partir d’un de ses acteurs, le philosophe Gustave Monod (1885-1968). Si « les idées naissent successivement les unes des autres » (Condillac, 1798, p. 194) quelle est la filiation de ces idées pédagogiques ? Alors que Monod désigne la Grande Guerre comme l’événement décisif ayant forgé son orientation pédagogique (20 août 1945), Tristan Lecoq, lui, voit davantage l’École des Roches, comme le berceau de ses idées éducatives. Mais qu’en est-il de l’héritage familial de Monod ?
Selon une approche ethno-historique, et une méthode herméneutique, l’article met en évidence une double filiation pédagogique marquée par des valeurs éducatives britanniques, dont l’une d’entre elle s’est acculturée dans le canton de Vaud en Suisse au début du XIXe siècle. Il s’agit d’une part, au plan institutionnel, des idées éducatives promues par l’École des Roches, d’autre part, au plan familial, des idées initiées à Paris par Frédéric Monod (1794-1863), le fils du patriarche de la grande lignée des Monod et théorisées par Louis-Frédéric François Gauthey (1795-1864), premier directeur de l’école Normale du canton de Vaud puis de Courbevoie. Mais cette recherche s’achève sur le constat d’un « chaînon manquant », et pose la question de la filiation familiale au christianisme social protestant.

Abstract :
This article about the history of ideas and educational values, deals with the legacy of the New Education, from one of its actor, the professor of Philosophy Gustave Monod (1885-1968).
If "ideas come successively each one from another” (Condillac, 1798, p. 194), where do these pedagogical ideas have their root  ? While Monod appoints the Great War as the decisive event that forged his pedagogical orientation (August 20th,  1945), Tristan Lecoq sees more the École des Roches, as the cradle of his educational ideas.What about the family legacy of Monod ?
According to an ethno-historical and hermeneutical method, this article highlights a double educational affiliation nourished by British educational values. One of them was acculturated in the Township of Vaud in Switzerland, in the beginning of the nineteenth century.
On the one hand, at the institutional level are the educational ideas promoted by the École des Roches, on the other hand, at the family level, the ideas initiated in Paris, by Frédéric Monod (1794-1863), the patriarch’s son of  the great line of  Monod and theorized by Louis-Frédéric François Gauthey, the first director of the Normal School in Vaud, then in Courbevoie. However, this research concludes with the observation of a "missing link", and raises the issue of the affiliation to the social protestant Christianity.

Il ne s'agit pas de concevoir le groupe scout comme une communauté
ecclésiale autonome: la vie ecclésiale ne se réalise que dans la rencontre et l'interaction des groupes et des personnes qui la composent. Une trop grande autonomie conduirait inévitablement à un repli sur soi. C'est pourquoi les liens institutionnels sont aussi là pour garantir l'ouverture
du mouvement à tous: à l'Église et au monde.

Un primo approccio con Norman Rockwell, è stato chiaramente sui manuali di storia contemporanea alle superiori e poi all'università. Qualche partenza negli Stati Uniti, hanno consentito un contatto più diretto con il poliedrico artista. Un incarico da freelance come giornalista, portarono chi scrive, alla mostra dedicata a Rockwell, una delle prime edizioni curate da un diretto parente dell'artista a Roma. La cosa curiosa, è stato ritrovare un dipinto o probabilmente una copia, di un dipinto del pittore americano che raggruppato con altri, costituisce la serie degli Scout e dello scoutismo. Dove?
