The article focuses on El'azar berabbi Qillir, the iconic pay￿an of all ages, and explores several aspects of his work, heritage and cultural significance. The var- ious parts of the article do not present a cohesive image of the life and work of the Qilliri. Rather, they present a mosaic of different outlooks on his image as well as scholarly reflections on some of his major contributions to Jewish literary culture.

Through legends, the Jewish collective memory awards a significant place to the builders of synagogues, as it does to the painters of synagogue murals and the carvers of Torah arks. These narratives played an important role in the Jewish community's perception of and its self-identification in the townscape. Tales about masters, both Jewish and Christian, full of oddities, didactics, and miracles, believably circulated in Jewish traditional society, although they were not recorded until the early twentieth century. Sometimes a tale echoes an inscription left by a master on his work, but most often it is an independent form of collective memory. The legends live according to the rules of their genre, often making use of universal subjects, so that their understanding is difficult without the context of non-Jewish folklore. The Israeli School of Folklore Studies is deeply involved in the study of the international tale types and their adaptation to Jewish religious texts and daily life, to the Jewish addressers and addressees in their historical mutations and geographical variety. Such adaptation leads to the production of new narratives, called oicotypes in accordance with the theory and terminology transferred by Carl von Sydow from biology to ethnography. The present paper is dedicated to the adaptation of the Tale of a Giant as a Master Builder (AT 1099), which is popular in Jewish folklore and belles-lettres. The paper deals with the main components of this tale as rendered in a traditional society, its transformations in the writings of European acculturated interpreters, Jewish national romanticists, and those who abandoned this latter trend to embrace the artistic avant-garde.

ביצירה "תהילה" אפשר לזהות חיבור בין שתי פריזמות: ההבחנה המרחבית בין בית לחוץ ותנועת המסע והנדודים. שתי הפריזמות שלובות זו בזו, שכן באידיאל הטיפוס של הנוסע בספרות אנו רואים לא פעם את "השיבה הביתה" כמרכיב משמעותי בסיום היצירה. לכאורה לא נותרה בקעה להתגדר בה, ברם ניתוחים וביקורות רבים עסקו בשאלות תיאולוגיות שונות, לעיתים גם פסיכו-אנליטיקאיות, אך לא מתוך פריזמת המסעות. לדעתי, יכולה פריזמה זו "להרגיע" חלק מהמטען והאנרגיות שבפרשנויות הקיימות, ולאפשר ליצירה לעמוד בזכות עצמה מבלי "להעמיס" עליה אידיאולוגיות ואג'נדות.

הכרך מוקדש ליצירה ולשפה הדמנטית. הדמנציה הפכה בשנים האחרונות מוקד לדיון רב תחומי. שפע יצירות התיעוד וייצוגיה המגוונים של המחלה בספרות ובקולנוע עומדים במרכז הדיון של תשעה מאמרים המבררים את היחסים שבין התופעה הקלינית לתופעה הספרותית והתרבותית. הכותבות והכותבים השונים בוחנים את הקשרים המרתקים שבין חוויות שכחה, חזרתיות וחידתיות ובין פרימת המשמעות, פירוק הטקסט, זהות, עדות וזיכרון. השפע החדש יחסית של ״היצירה הדמנטית״ מעלה שאלות באשר למהותה של המשיכה העזה בעת הזו לתיאור החוויה הקשה ולתיעודה. שאלות אלה כמו גם השאלה על אופני ההקשבה החדשים שמעורר הטקסט הדמנטי, מהווים את מרכז הדיון במאמריהם של ורד לב כנען, זלי גורביץ, גלילי שחר, חיים דורצ׳ין, שחר ברם, עדי שורק, דנה אמיר, מיכל בן נפתלי ואמיר כהן-שלו.

Vortrag im Rahmen des Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaftlichen Kolloquiums der Universität Bayreuth.
Moderne Autorschaftsentwürfe funktionalisieren bestimmte Räume für ihren Literaturbegriff. Allerdings sind nicht etwa die Autoren zu mappen, vielmehr greifen diese Entwürfe auf (quasi-)räumliche Strukturen so zu, wie es auch Kartographen tun: um von einem Raum eine Karte zu erstellen, bedarf es eines Konzeptes, bedarf es der Entscheidung für abzubildende Parameter und für Relationen. Ausgehend von konkreten Lokalisierungen im literarischen Text möchte der Vortrag zeigen, wie weit entfernt literarischer und vermeintlich realer Raum sind, um dann zu diskutieren, wie verschiedene Autorschaftskonzepte räumliche Rückbindungen funktionalisieren.
