Origenes

Origen’s exegesis of the Song of Songs, despite the praise it generally raised both in antiquity and in modern times, still awaits for deeper investigation as far as the literary project of the Alexandrian and its output are concerned. In this respect, it is difficult not only to exactly define the mutual relations between the Commentary and the Homilies on the Song of Songs, apart from the evident similarity of their themes, but more specifically to catch the particular nature of Origen’s interpretation at the first level of the biblical text against his well-known allegorism. Viewing the «littera» or «historia» of the Song as a theatrical piece, as especially shown in the Commentary, Origen delivers a dramatical interpretation which by its careful description of the successive scenes develops into a proper script for the stage. Though this explanation is meant to guide the reader to a further level of interpretation, the ‘letter’ cannot here be appreciated simply as the provisional step leading to the ‘spirit’, i.e. the spiritual intelligence of the Song which is in principle the only one permitted for Origen in this biblical love poetry. Instead of that, through the discourse engaged by the dramatic interpretation, on the one hand, there is an overlapping of both the ‘historical’ and the ‘spiritual’ explanation and, on the other hand, the dramatic exegesis also delivers a surplus of sense which is not totally subsumed in the spiritual interpretation. At moments the Song as ‘play’ seems therefore to gain in Origen’s perceptive reading a life of its own.

Dimensión de lo real que nos sobrecoge y fascina a la vez; emergencia de lo lumínico trascendente en la prosa de lo diario (Otto); potencia numinosa de lo arcaico; ruptura con el curso cotidiano de la vida y, por lo mismo, encuentro con las raíces que religan (Eliade); energía útil, pero peligrosa, por ser difícil de manejar (Berger, Callois); reunión de lo bendito y de lo maldito; profunda necesidad de certidumbre; experiencia espiritual en el sentido foucaultiano de un cuidado y comprensión de sí; empleo siempre distanciado y venerado del objeto observado, pero también, experiencia aurática que puede conducir hacia una cierta forma de resistencia de los sentidos o del pensamiento al remitir-como lo sostenía Benjamin-hacia la manifestación irrepetible de una lejanía… lo sagrado puede comportar una negatividad capaz de frenar la precipitación del tiempo. Quince artículos agrupados en tres secciones conforman este volumen sobre las configuraciones de lo sagrado en la literatura de los últimos cincuenta años en el Cono Sur. Se analizan aquí textos de una veintena de escritores. Las secciones son: refugios, orígenes y lo maldito. Los trabajos reunidos en la primera sección son cinco y dan cuenta de las configuraciones de lo sagrado que nidan en cinco instancias de amparo: la inspiración, la espiritualidad ritual, la voz profética, la caminata y los detalles cotidianos. La segunda sección abarca seis artículos que abordan diferentes maneras en que lo sagrado se manifiesta en relación con alguna manera de revelar el origen: el existencial, el de la palabra. Estos trabajos se interesan por el estallido poético de la palabra, la ritualización de la memoria, lo sublime que se nos muestra, la falta que se nos revela, y también, por sus desacralizaciones. La tercera sección consta de cuatro artículos que analizan lo sagrado como experiencia del sentido en la cual el mal se revela como envés horroroso de lo cotidiano, intimidad maldita del ser, intensidad misteriosa de la vida. Los diversos enfoques teóricos empleados (filosófico, antropológico, literario, político) ponen en evidencia el interés de los quince investigadores aquí reunidos por retirar lo sagrado de las definiciones esencialistas y de los confines semánticos. Los investigadores convocados, reconocidos por sus estudios sobre el tema y sobre los escritores que abordan, pertenecen a universidades y centros de investigaciones europeos (Bélgica, Francia, Holanda) y americanos (Argentina, Chile, Estados Unidos).

Courtney J. P. Friesen explores shifting boundaries of ancient religions by way of the reception of a popular tragedy, Euripides’ Bacchae . As a play staging political crises provoked by the arrival of the “foreign” god Dionysus and his ecstatic cult, audiences and readers found resonances with their own cultural moments. This dramatic deity became emblematic of exuberant and liberating spirituality and, at the same time, a symbol of imperial conquest. Thus, readings of the Bacchae frequently foreground conflicts between religious autonomy and political authority, and between ethnic diversity and social cohesion. This cross-disciplinary study traces appropriations and evocations of this drama ranging from the fifth century BCE through Byzantium not only among “pagans” but also Jews and Christians. Writers variously articulated their religious visions over against Dionysus, often while paradoxically adopting the god’s language and symbols. Consequently, imitation and emulation are at times indistinguishable from polemics and subversion.

Las claves de este desarrollo se encuentran en todo momento contrastadas con su marco geográfico gracias a un abundante material (mapas a todo color, planos, diagramas, etc.) que hace posible la fácil síntesis de los datos ordenados cronológicamente en el texto. Con más de veinte ediciones corregidas y aumentadas al hilo de los nuevos acontecimientos, el Atlas histórico de Hermann Kinder y Werner Hilgemann sigue siendo, hoy en día, la mejor y más completa herramienta de trabajo para el estudiante o el profesional de las humanidades. Enriquecida con numerosas ampliaciones relativas a la historia de la península Ibérica y del continente americano, la presente edición está revisada y aumentada hasta el año 2005.

Las narrativas transmedia se presentan como una nueva forma de contar historias concebida en el siglo XXI. El objetivo de esta investigación es argumentar la existencia de estas narrativas en fechas anteriores al 2003, cuando Henry Jenkins las bautizó y popularizó y, mediante la exploración de su contexto, llegar a entender en qué han cambiado con respecto a las actuales.

Eckhart refers to Origen as "a great Master", and he is one of his fundamental patristic sources, along with St. Augustine. But it is not easy to recognise what he has retained specifically from the thought of the Alexandrian, so distant in time and so influential also on other authors who preceded Eckhart. Of all the Alexandrian's writings, we know for sure that he read directly his Homilies on Genesis, which present important Origenist notions, a work that Eckhart quotes 17 times. It is therefore interesting to study Eckhart's use of these homilies, especially in his Book of the Parables of Genesis, in order to consider from these texts his relationship with Origen, what he assumes from the latter and what is new about him. Thus, Eckhart extracts and condenses what is most significant in the Alexandrian's Homilies on Genesis, making use of his allegorical exegesis and his metaphors (the divine seed in us, the well and the spring of living water), as well as his profound reflections on the image of God in the human being, which may be obscured, but never disappears. However, Eckhart displaces Origen's ethical orientation and assumes a more ontological perspective, and goes beyond the Alexandrian, adding a new interpretation of the texts by incorporating the notion of the double being of things and of the continuous creation in the Word.

A través de esta propuesta de investigación estaremos estudiando las tendencias teológicas de Tertuliano de Cartago y Orígenes de Alejandría. Mediante el examen de la literatura relacionada, trazaremos la línea de investigación sobre este tema.

As it is (almost) generally admitted, Plato and the Platonism play a not minor role in the thought of Origen of Alexandria. This essay examines this influence in the light of the apology Contra Celsum. In a first part are taken into consideration Origen's various mentions of Plato's name, which testify  a double attitude towards the philosopher: on the one hand Plato is appreciated for being able to grasp some aspects of the truth but at the same time he is criticized for not having abandoned idolatry. In a second part of the essay, the philosophical influence of Platonism on Origen is shown by the example of the concept of God.

Premessa: l’opzione del silenzio e la testimonianza. I. Il clima di una disputa. II. L’apologia di un esegeta. III. La soglia del mistero cristiano. – «Vorrei anzitutto provare a rintracciare gli elementi di un possibile "Sitz im Leben" dell’apologia di Origene, al di là della circostanza esterna che la muove: in quale misura CC non resta semplicemente un’“opera da tavolino” e ci offre invece un metro per rivisitare ambienti e dibattiti nella comunità ecclesiale e negli ambienti religiosi e intellettuali attorno alla metà del III secolo? In secondo luogo, mi interessa comprendere quale è il profilo letterario dello scritto di Origene: non essendo in ipotesi un’‘opera di scuola’ – come lo sono, almeno dal punto di vista della loro genesi ambientale, i commentari esegetici – né tanto meno un testo avvicinabile alla produzione omiletica, quale statuto preciso riveste quest’opera costruita dal suo autore vincendo l’‘opzione del silenzio’? Infine, mi sembra che proprio questa alternativa respinta intervenga comunque in maniera determinante nello stesso articolarsi del discorso apologetico di Origene, anche in relazione al pubblico mirato da CC. Se la risposta a Celso poggia su due grandi registri continuamente ripresi – confutazione e elaborazione dottrinale –, fino a che punto l’autore può spingersi verso un approfondimento del mistero cristiano agli occhi dei lettori dichiarati “infanti”, “deboli” o addirittura “digiuni” nella fede? Come si vedrà, il confine tra “apologia” e “testimonianza” è più fluido di quello che la natura del discorso apologetico sembrerebbe ammettere in via di principio» (p. 111) – Segue la «Discussion» (pp. 142-149).

A preliminary examination of the problem of the attribution to Origen of the homilies on the Psalms, discovered by Marina Molin Pradel in the Greek Ms. 314 of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Munich. The importance of this discovery for the study of Origen as exegete, preacher and commentator of the Psalms cannot be overestimated. Apart from a few fragments figuring in the «catenae» the new homilies provide an authentic origenian flavour and important materials for comparison. It is already possible to point to significant parallels in other Origen’s writings with regard, for instance, to the philological approach to the biblical text, in the tradition of Alexandrian philology. In addition, several features typical of Origen’s rhetorics as preacher are well attested in the new homilies. The historical and doctrinal aspects also confirm that we have to do with the milieu familiar to the great Alexandrian authors.

En Argentina desde 2002 existen organizaciones de activistas que buscan sus orígenes y reclaman por leyes que garanticen su derecho a la identidad porque afirman que su demanda aún no ha sido atendida por el Estado.
En 2013 el Consejo Económico y Social de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires convocó a todos los activistas para elaborar un proyecto de ley que ofrezca herramientas legislativas y jurídicas para quienes quieren conocer sus orígenes.
Sobre la base del material etnográfico construido en las reuniones de la mesa de trabajo que integraron los activistas, exploro los sentidos que son atribuidos por este colectivo de activistas a categorías tales como víctima, afectado, identidad, origen, biología y también sus valores y posicionamientos sobre la cantidad de personas que buscan sus orígenes actualmente en Argentina.
El artículo describe el proceso de construcción del proyecto de ley denominado “Derecho a la Identidad de Origen y Biológica” atendiendo a las características que asume este tipo de activismo y al dialogo que establece con otros activismos que han resultado nodales en las demandas por verdad y justicia en Argentina. Así, es posible comprender los activismos de finales del siglo XX y comienzos del siglo XXI como parte de una genealogía activista.

The contribution, after a short overview of Bucer’s general attitude towards the Church Fathers, focuses on the presence of Origen in the writings of Martin Bucer. Differently from other Reformers, who rejected Origen and his allegorical exegesis completely, Bucer referred often to the Alexandrian Father and quoted him as an historical witness of religious practices common to Reformation and to the early Church (like the infant baptism). More important, Bucer knew and employed Origen’s biblical interpretation as a source of inspiration for his own exegetical practice, as his Commentary to the Romans plainly testify.

no grande processo redentor. A Ressurreição é o seu clímax.

Diese Studie untersucht die Haltung dreier bedeutender Kirchenschriftsteller der vorkonstantinischen Zeit zu Fragen rund um den Heeresdienst von Christen: Zu ihrer Zeit gab es zunehmend Christen im Heer und in den Gemeinden begannen Diskussionen, ob das bekenntniskonform ist. Dabei werden vielfältige Positionen und Argumente erkennbar und zugleich wird deutlich, wie das Christentum um seine Standortbestimmung innerhalb des Imperium Romanum ringt.

The growing and surprising interest in the work of Origen suggests an opportunity for a review of the literature published in the first ten years of the 21st century. Two themes - Church and history - represent the central strand. This essay is divided into four parts: Church, Easter, history, prayer. Origen has a spiritual rather than institutional ecclesiology; Origen's Commentary on the Song of Songs is the most biblical and but also the most Greek of his work. The overcoming of a typological vision of  Easter is also visible: the Eucharist is disconnected from Easter understood as sacrifice. History then emerges as typical of the Origenes forschung: it re-discuss the concept of aeon, the assumption of creating intelligible eternity, and the idea of apokatastasis. Prayer, examined in Origen's Treaty on Prayer, and in all the writings of Origen and in a comparative look with other authors (especially Augustine), is a very relevant theme of the spiritualiry and theology of Origen.

En este trabajo analizo uno de los dispositivos discursivos e institucionales que permitieron la emergencia del origenismo ya no como una aleatoria "razón que sea" sino como una razón particular de ser, un programa coherente de creación según principios reproducibles:  el de la antología literaria.  En concreto, estudio cómo el efecto de mutua validación entre las dos antologías que Cintio Vitier editó y publicó durante el lustro de mayor ascenso de la revista -Diez poetas cubanos (1948) y Cincuenta años de poesía cubana (1952)- consolidó la atribución del -ismo.

Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest kwestii złożonej relacji między oryginalną teo­ rią interpretacji Orygenesa a podstawowymi założeniami filozofii Platona. Na wstępie trzeba koniecznie zaznaczyć, iż nasz skromny tekst nie rości sobie pre­ tensji do wyczerpania tematu, lecz koncentruje się jedynie na tych wybranych intuicjach, które pozostają w związku z główną tezą naszych rozważań. Tę zaś wyartykułować można w sposób następujący: jak główną przesłanką teologicznej hermeneutyki Orygenesa jest odrzucenie literalnej i antropomorficznej wykład­ ni Pisma, tak zarzuty nieracjonalności i niemoralności wystosowywane przezeń pod adresem fundamentalnie ortodoksyjnej interpretacji świętych ksiąg zdają się wskazywać na inspiracje filozofią Platona1. W proponowanym tutaj ujęciu kwestia Platońskich inspiracji teologicznej hermeneutyki Orygenesa rozpada się zasadniczo na dwa aspekty: z jednej bowiem strony Platońska epistemologia i ontologia oraz odnośny aparat pojęciowy stanowią niezaprzeczalny fundament zarówno całej Orygenesowskiej teologii, jak i propagowanej przezeń interpre­ tacji chrześcijaństwa, z drugiej zaś Platońska krytyka antropomorfizmu i orto­ doksji jako zjawisk społecznie szkodliwych stanowi prawdopodobne źródło zarzu­ tów irracjonalności i amoralności, jakie Orygenes wystosowuje pod adresem antropomorfizmu i literalizmu. Stosownie do tego artykuł został podzielony na dwie części: w pierwszej omówiony zostanie bezsporny wpływ platonizmu-w dru­ giej wpływ, który chcielibyśmy przedłożyć pod rozwagę. Tras el Juicio Final, unos irán al Cielo, estado de cercanía eterna con Dios, y otros al infierno, condición de alejamiento perpetuo de la Divinidad. Tal ha sido la en­señanza que durante siglos se ha mantenido en la Iglesia Católica. Pero ésta no ha sido la única solución que ha pretendido resolver la cuestión de la salvación y la condena. Una de las más representativas propuestas alternas afirma que, al final de los tiempos, tendrá lugar la restauración universal (en griego, apokatástasispantón). Esto significa que toda la creación entrará en la gloria de Dios. Dado que se trata de un tema de afecta la comprensión total de la vida cristiana, vale la pena esforzarse en establecer los retos que la restauración universal puede ofrecer al cristianismo del siglo XXI con el fin de buscar una vivencia de la fe más consciente y significativa.

This paper concerns Hieronymus’ Tractatus in psalmum 15. After
a brief summary of debate regarding the dating of this text, the
first part deals with the exegesis of Ps 15,10. Hieronymus’s argument
about Jesus’s resurrected body, which can be traced back to
his recurring themes during the Origenist controversy, allows us to
propose a new date for this piece of writing. The final part focused
on Ps 15,4 highlights Hieronymus’s use of textual criticism of the
scriptures as a polemical device and helps us to understand to what
degree he is autonomous and to what degree he is dependent on
Origen’s interpretations.
