“Fiction Begot Fiction,” is a psychobiographical study of William Faulkner, which draws primarily on The Sound and the Fury for its evidence. It is not, strictly speaking, a study of Faulkner’s novel, since the questions it seeks to answer are biographical ones concerning Faulkner’s motivations for writing the novel, and the reasons for its famously elliptical style. Nor is it a conventional literary critical essay, even in the psychobiographical mode, since it relies heavily on red herrings, suspense, and a deus ex machina resolution. It is, therefore, most aptly considered as a specimen of creative non-fiction for which psychobiographical literary criticism provides the foundation. The project offers a defense of conjectural readings of characters’ fictive past traumas, drawn from the work of Esther Rashkin. The author offers her own justification for extending Rashkin’s character-focused approach to the uncovering of an authorial trauma that is figured elliptically in the traumatic and post-traumatic struggles of the novel’s fictional characters. The project provides a provocative “riff” on psychobiographical criticism.

Political speech is a type of performance poetry. That may seem unlikely to those who struggle with its clichés and platitudes, but understanding the links between political speech and oral traditions of poetry allows us to appreciate its strengths alongside its weaknesses, the creativity alongside the banality. Applying ethical standards appropriate to oral performance, rather than the literary default mode of critics like George Orwell and Don Watson, gives us a stronger moral critique of all those anti-intellectual dishonesties cloaked in boredom we know so well. Making the case, Stay on Message explores the poetics of political speeches in Australia, the USA, and elsewhere—with examples of both the good and the delightfully appalling.

Artykuł stanowi próbę interpretacji powieści Zyty Rudzkiej zatytułowanej Krótka wymiana ognia. Dochodzi w nim do odczytania tego utworu za pomocą kategorii zaczerpniętych z myśli psychoanalitycznej Marii Török i Nicolasa Abrahama oraz z interdyscyplinarnych studiów nad pamięcią i traumą ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zagadnienia transgeneracyjnego przekazu traumy. Autor przedstawia trzy podstawowe łańcuchy rzeczywistych i obecnych w porządku fantazmatycznym zdarzeń, które wpływają na skomplikowaną relację pomiędzy kobietami należącymi do trzech pokoleń tej samej
rodziny. Krążący między nimi pamięciowy przekaz jest zaburzony i stopniowo wytraca jednoznaczną afiliację, stając się traumatycznym palimpsestem o charakterze sensualnym i somatycznym.
