Kathrin Bethke
Kathrin Bethke studied Comparative Literature, Philosophy and Theatre Studies at the FU Berlin, the University of Edinburgh and Yale University. She has an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the Free University of Berlin and holds a PhD in English Philology from the same university. Her dissertation is entitled “Affective Appraisals: Shakespearean Correlations of Emotion and the Concept of Value” and investigates Shakespeare’s use of economic metaphors in the conceptualization of emotions. Kathrin has taught numerous seminars on early modern literature, the history and theory of poetry as well as on contemporary adaptations of the Troy material from Margaret Atwood to Louise Glück. She is currently working on a postdoctoral project about the affective dimension of transcultural encounters in contemporary diasporic literatures. Kathrin has held scholarships from the Fulbright Commission and the DAAD for research stays at Yale University, Stanford University, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
