1 Enoch 90.37-38 feature a messianic white bull and a nagar. Following a discussion of interpretational cruces, this article concludes that the latter represents the aurochs. A comparison is made with Deut. 33.17 in which the same two oxen represent an anticipated Joseph-Joshua deliverer, who is on the one hand servile and destined to sacrificial death and on the other regnant and free. The coincidence of imagery in the two passages suggests that 1 En. 90.37-38 is dependent on Deut. 33.17, leading to the conclusion that the oxen of 1 En. 90.37.38 depict a Joseph-Joshua Messiah destined to sacrificial death then resurgence in power. This has implications for the dating of beliefs about the Josephite Messiah, for the integrity of other second-century BCE texts, and for Christian origins.

Il contesto è quello del dibattito sulle nozioni di "teologia politica" e "katéchon", in rapporto all'attuale fase di crisi economica e sociale che colpisce o tallona paesi un tempo ricchi come quelli europei. Molti vedono questo come uno scenario apocalittico di corruzione non solo economica, ma generale. La domanda è: si tratta di un'apocalisse globale? Investe dunque anche il cosiddetto "Oriente"? Dalla risposta a questa domanda si può capire non solo la situazione "orientale", ma si possono forse vedere meglio anche i limiti dell'impostazione teologico-politica occidentale.

Fica cada vez mais difícil contar essa história, que pretendia fosse memorialística. Comecei com o título, o que já é mau sinal. “O alcoólatra pede desculpas e cai”, escrevi com orgulho e mostrei a vários amigos. Um deles, mais afoito, simplificou: “Genial!”. Mas, desconfiado com o foguetório, me embatuquei com a facilidade com que o título veio, bateu aquela mea culpa de plágio, de sequestro, que me aflige desde que comecei a ler o blog de Denise Bottmann. Pensei: – Será que já não li isso nalgum lugar?

O artigo é uma nova tentativa de interpretação do movimento messiânico-milenarista de Pau de Colher que ocorreu no município de Casa Nova, sertão da Bahia, entre os anos de
1934 e 1938. O evento guarda vínculos estreitos com a atuação de Padre Cícero em Juazeiro do Norte e com a comunidade do Caldeirão dos Jesuítas, de José Lourenço, ambos no Ceará. O diálogo entre essas manifestações religiosas deu-se pelas mãos de Severino Tavares, beato que circulou por vários Estados do Nordeste. A partir das suas pregações sobre Caldeirão, surgiu a comunidade messiânica nos sertões casa-novenses,
fato que levou muitos pesquisadores a pensar Pau de Colher como uma “etapa” de Caldeirão, como se deste último não se distinguisse. Ocupamo-nos aqui de dois fenômenos religiosos que, acreditamos, apontam para um sentido oposto a esta hipótese e iluminam o caráter inovador e “autônomo” de Pau de Colher. O primeiro é a gestação do projeto de peregrinação ao Caldeirão, processo que ao longo da história do movimento
sofreu mudanças e funcionou não como um fator de desarticulação, mas sim de coesão do grupo; o segundo, a demonização do cotidiano e seus episódios de violência,
negligenciados pelos trabalhos anteriores, e tomados neste texto como desdobramentos do projeto de peregrinação e também como resultado de intrigantes leituras da tradição
cristã ocidental.

Grande parte dos conceitos agambenianos se dão na forma de pares categoriais. Zoé e bíos, língua e fala são alguns exemplos. Importa desmontá-los e encontrar seu centro vazio. Deste modo, o filósofo constrói sua crítica à cultura e à política ocidentais. Neste texto nos concentraremos no par resto/messianismo. Nossa hipótese é de que, justamente neste par, temos uma categoria prognóstica; à diferença da maioria de seus conceitos. As noções de resto e messianismo passam, no entanto, pelo problema do tempo.

A proposta deste artigo é analisar a gestação de um movimento social de cunho religioso em Pau de Colher, no município de Casa Nova, interior da Bahia, na década de 30, e o seu impacto político nas relações de força durante os anos de
implementação da Revolução de 30. A investigação será encaminhada, apontando as semelhanças do episódio com outros movimentos messiânicos – em especial, em
Juazeiro do Norte (1889-1934), dos Padres Cícero Romão Batista (1844-1934), e em Caldeirão dos Jesuítas (1926-1936), do beato José Lourenço Gomes da Silva (1872-1946) – e os significados de suas características, a partir de uma bibliografia específica sobre messianismos e milenarismos, no judaísmo antigo e na contemporaneidade, a forma como foi utilizada por autoridades baianas, para alcançar determinados objetivos
político-partidários e as repercussões de sua repressão.

In my paper, I intend firmly to criticize Taubes' interpretation of Benjamin's Theology as a modern form of Gnosticism (Benjamin as a modern Marcionit). In a positive way, I sustain rather the thesis that Benjamin's Messianism is in close connection with his conception of reason (“the sharpened axe of reason”) and, in particularly, with the paradoxical unity of Mysticism and Enlightenment, which, according to the famous definition of Adorno, distinguishes his thought. As a radically anti-magical and anti-mythical conception of the historical time, Benjamin's Messianism has to be considered as an original synthesis between motifs of the mystical tradition of the Jewish Kabbalah and motifs belonging to the rationalist tradition of the Jewish philosophy. Moving from Cohen's standpoint of a continuity between Maimonides and Kant, I consider therefore the affinity between his messianic conception of history and that of Benjamin. Both, Benjamin and Cohen, share, together with the reference to the a priori of the idea of justice, the reference to the Kantian connection between rationality and hope. Hence originates the non-eschatological Messianism of both. Motives of difference between Cohen and Benjamin’s messianic idea are to be found, conversely, in their different way to consider the idea of "the infinite task" and of its infinite fulfillment in the context of the historical time. Unlike the fundamentally ethical interpretation that Cohen gives of this relationship, Benjamin understands it ontologically in a monadological sense. This explains the constitutive relationship that exists, in Benjamin's philosophy, between Origin, Fragment and Revelation. In the light of this connection, Benjamin's messianic understanding of the historical time exceeds the Scholemian alternative between a restorative and a utopian conception of Messianism. Consequently, the Krausian motto “Ursprung ist das Ziel” (“The Origin is the Goal”) displays its truth in the idea of the messianic fragment or spark.

A proposta do artigo é analisar a natureza e o percurso evolutivo de três conceitos essenciais para o campo da História das Religiões e das Religiosidades: Messianismo, Milenarismo e Catolicismo Popular. A investigação será concentrada no discurso intelectual das Ciências Humanas e Sociais, entre os anos 30 do século XX e a primeira década do XXI, direcionada a partir de uma abordagem na linha da História dos Conceitos
(Begriffsgeschichte), corrente teórico-metodológica que possibilita o exame da tradição interpretativa formada ao redor desses termos, a forma como foram alterados semanticamente, a partir de reflexões teóricas ou com base em sua aplicação a casos concretos.

The problem is that many interpreters insufficiently account for the literary context of the Samaritan Parable of Luke 10:30–35, which leads to misunderstanding the parable. Redaction critical textual relationships (cultural literary context, preceding and succeeding narrative co-text, intra-parabolic canonical intertext [Hosea & 2 Chronicles]) show that the literary context in which the Samaritan parable occurs prepares for the reader’s seeing the theological theme of Messianic Reunification (MR) of all Israel. Thus, fully appreciating the literary context indicates that the Samaritan parable coheres with MR and that Jesus is answering the two combined questions: “Whom must the Judaean accept as a fellow Israelite in order to participate in the messianic restoration of the reunited kingdom of all Israel?”

This talk is helpful to see some of the basic points I make about how the OT prophetic theme of the Messiah, who would come to reunite the divided kingdom of north and south Israel, empowers better understanding this parable of Jesus, who claimed (e.g. Luke 24:44) that all the prophecies were to be fulfilled by Him and His people.

Jesus, as part of his mission to remove divisions within Israel, to include those wrongly marginalized, etc., here uses the most ancient and hateful division of Israel in an a fortiori manner to specifically teach that polemically racist Judaean cultists, who wrongly exclude many Israelites, must accept even their estranged fellow Samaritan Israelites as covenanters if they want to be part of the Messiah's reunited Davidic kingdom.

A ideia de mundanidade está atrelada ao que se mostra como mais humano. Enquanto ser que sente – e que se deixa levar por suas emoções e sensações –, o homem constantemente entra em choque contra o discurso religioso. Este, por sua vez, inflado de
dogmas, serve como um “norteador moral”, uma série de diretrizes para auxiliar o homem em sua vivência. Das várias figuras que tal discurso faz uso, este artigo foca na figura do Messias e em diversos termos relacionados a ele, sempre em tensão com termos associados à
mundanidade humana, como Tecnologia, Retorno, Salvação-Danação, Profecia e Fim dos Tempos. Além disso, o mito do Messias será analisado conforme aparece em letras de canções do Heavy Metal, estilo musical que, igualmente, apreende a ambígua e difusa realidade da sua
era.

Resumo O presente artigo objetiva analisar como a ideia messiânica se apresenta e se fundamenta em uma das religiões que mais cresce no mundo, o Islã, a partir da análise de uma de suas vertentes responsável por uma das maiores revoluções políticas (Revolução Iraniana, 1979), a vertente xiita. Para tanto, o trabalho se fundamentará nos seguintes passos: 1) breve apresentação da ideia messiânica nas três religiões monoteístas, atendo-se ao messianismo islâmico dentro da vertente xiita duodecimana; 2) busca pelos elementos revolucionários presentes no Islã xiita e verificação de como esses elementos alimentam a ideia de messianismo nesse grupo; 3) análise da ideia messiânica como formadora de identidade, entre os xiitas, e suas implicações na vivência sócio-religiosa-política dessa comunidade na atualidade. Sem a pretensão de esgotar o assunto, o trabalho que se segue surge como um sucinto, mas grande esforço (jihad) na busca pela compreensão de um elemento complexo, a saber, o messianismo no pensamento islâmico. A justificativa para tal meta encontra-se no desejo de apresentar um caminho de conhecimento sobre esse a fim de suscitar novas discussões. La fede nella immortalità dello Stato - sia nel volto immaginato da Hobbes come Leviatano che in più tarde elaborazioni che se ne distanziano -, fu il sigillo di garanzia in cui, per diversi secoli, riposò l'anima e il cuore di milioni di uomini del mondo occidentale. Il suo lento declino, - i primi sintomi furono avvertiti da alcuni pensatori con perentoria evidenza, ne sono esempio alcune opere di Santi Romano e Carl Schmitt dei primi anni Venti -, oltre a ispirare una vasta letteratura (le "apocalissi del Novecento" hanno avuto molto a che fare con quel "senso perduto della nostra immortalità"), ha coinciso con un rinnovato pensiero della morte.

As reflexões apresentam os resultados de pesquisa sobre o desenvolvimento histórico da Teologia Latino-Americana da Libertação. O objetivo foi elaborar uma crítica à essa destacada corrente do pensamento a partir da identificação de aspectos de messianismo político nela presentes. Metodologicamente, a tarefa foi realizada a partir de uma aproximação da Teologia da Libertação com outras duas expressões teológicas. A primeira, ad intra, com autores que criticaram certas visões de messianismo político nela presentes e priorizaram a relação com a economia para oferecer tal crítica, especialmente as contribuições de Hugo Assmann, Julio de Santa Ana e Jung Mo Sung. The revolt as a religious phenomenon. Considerations about Jesi’s reading of Sabbatianism: Taking into account the writings of Furio Jesi consecrated to the Sabbatian movement, this study aims to investigate the observations made by Jesi about the revolt as a religious phenomenon. Engaging in a dialogue with different analysis of the same heresy, like those leaded by Gershom Scholem, Jesi tries to overpass the limits imposed by a strict historical approach, filling his reading with philosophical and political implication and making his work a pretext for a wider reflection about the intimate connection between religious and political, history and myth.

Mythos 13/2019.  Dossier: Furio Jesi e la scienza del mito

This course will delve into the major moments of Bratslav Hasidism from its founding through the Holocaust. Through a study of central texts in Hasidism we will evaluate the daring theological picture that negotiated change in relation to a shifting reality. In the first semester we will read from the works of R. Nahman of Bratslav and R. Nathan of Nemirov, and in the second we will study the development of Hasidism through the twentieth century.

The main topic of my paper concerns the theological-philosophical nexus between the intensive and qualitative spatiality of the Monad and the Origenian idea of Apokatastasis as a nexus that can clarify Benjamin's latest idea of the Messianic World. The first step will be, therefore, to explain (1) Benjamin's use of the Origenian notion of Apokatastasis in his Essay on Leskov and in the Passagenwerk. Secondly, I will discuss (2) how and to what extent such use is relevant for Benjamin's idea of Messianism. Thirdly, I will propose (3) the thesis that, for Benjamin, a messianic idea of time implies a monadological idea of space. In this regard, the relationship between continuity and discontinuity, which is crucial to understand the late Benjamin's idea of history, must be understood precisely as a dialectical relationship that involves not only time but also space. This article is a research proposal of investigation of two messianic authors: Walter Benjamin and the poet Ferreira Gullar. Gullar, in accordance with Benjamin’s quest for Redemption (Erlösung), often inserts in his poetry those excluded from a continuous, progressive history of victors. This Messianism, however, is weak, fragile, balanced by a complementary force derived from powerful dialectical images of historical materialism.

RESUMO
Este artigo apresenta uma análise da produção literária de Franz Kafka que procura entender a sua crítica ao moderno estado de direito como uma representação messiânica. O messianismo está presente na forma negativa com que Kafka se relaciona com a lei. Contraposto a uma religiosidade institucional que se direciona a manutenção do status quo, a religiosidade negativa do messianismo kafkiano apresenta as limitações inerentes à realidade, ao mesmo passo em que compreende a dificuldade de vencer estas limitações no tempo presente. Recorrendo às interpretações de Michael Löwy e de Giorgio Agamben focamos a urgência messiânica da obra de Kafka como uma urgência de compreender o caminho que ainda falta ser trilhado. ABSTRACT
This paper presents an analysis of Franz Kafka’s literary productions which tries to understand his critics to the modern rule of law as a messianic representation. The messianism is present in the negative form that Kafka relates with the law. Opposed to an institutional
religion that directs itself to the maintenance of the status quo, the negative religiosity of the Kafka’s messianism presents the limitations proper from the reality, in the same way that it comprehends the difficulties in overcoming those limitations in the present time. Appealing to Michael Löwy’s and Giorgio Agamben’s interpretations, we focus on the messianic urgency in Kafka’s work as an urgency to understand the path that still needs to be walked into.

A proposta do artigo e analisar a gestacao de um movimento social de cunho religioso em Pau de Colher, no municipio de Casa Nova, interior da Bahia, na decada de 1930, a partir das similitudes e diferencas que o vinculam a outras duas manifestacoes de religiosidade popular, identificadas em Juazeiro do Norte (1889-1934), de Padre Cicero Romao Batista (1844-1934) e Caldeirao dos Jesuitas (1926-1936), do beato Jose Lourenco Gomes da Silva (1872-1946).  A investigacao sera encaminhada tendo por base a trajetoria particular de um personagem, o beato Severino Tavares , que possibilitou demonstrar o elo entre os tres movimentos.

The real term of confrontation of Benjamin's late philosophy (from the Passagenwerk to the Theses on the concept of history) does not concern, therefore, Heidegger, but Hegel. In the light of this confrontation, Heidegger's Being and Time is already in pieces. It is as it were – we can say – behind Benjamin's movement of thought.
