moreBy intervening in the Libyan conflict opposing the Tripoli government , recognised by the international community, to Field Marshal Haftar's Libyan National Army, Turkey origianlly set out to assert its maritime presence in the Mediterranean. But, by giving the government clan modern arms, especially drones, that allowed it to win some decisive battles , the Turks little by little extended their hol on a country which they want to turn into the bridgehead for their expansionism in Africa. They are also seeking to rap economic advantages from their involvement on the ground, especially in the petroleum and reconstruction sector. One problem remains to be solved: to have free rein in Libya, they need the green light of the big Egyptian neighbour and, for that, cease their support for the Muslim Brothers. Is President Erdogan ready to sacrifice his allies on the altar of his African ambitions?
