Halo

From an art-historical point of view, art from Halaf culture is important because of its extraordinary character. This art consists mainly of polychrome pottery of high quality. Amazingly, the art is comparable in style to the art that the world-famous Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher created many thousands of years later.
From the point of view of religious history, my research is important because it shows that people still believed in rebirth. Of the six Upper Paleolithic gods from Western Europe (lit. Meulenberg 2018), four can be found in Halaf culture.
But in Halaf culture a new religion is also emerging in which people believe in paradise with the tree of life and the concept of "eternity" becomes important. The halo that was drawn around images of the divine moon is also new. As creator the people knew probably the Snake Goddess Nammu.
As a virgin she gives birth to the cosmic mountain An-Ki and life. An is her son (the vault of heaven) and Ki is her daughter (the earth). She also made different kinds of human individuals from clay lumps.
It is possible that people in Halaf culture already knew several constellations from the zodiac.

This article offers a preliminary overview of the results of the excavations of four test trenches at Magoula Plataniotiki, near the Hellenistic city of Halos, by the universities of Groningen and Amsterdam and the 13th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. The 2013-2014 report is introduced by a summary of previous fieldwork in the area, including a coring campaign in 1977-1978 which allowed a reconstruction of its historical geomorphology. After an overview of the new finds, which cover several occupation phases from the late 5th till the mid 3rd centuries BCE, and comprise remains of habitations and a more monumental structure, the historical implications of the excavation results are also discussed. To present the power Doppler findings and evaluate the hypoechoic rim in increasing the conspicuity of foreign bodies detected on sonography and to correlate the sonographic and histopathologic findings. Between 1998 and 2001, all sonographic examinations for evaluation of possible foreign bodies were reviewed retrospectively. Patients who had surgical exploration and pathologic evaluation were included in the study. Gray scale and power Doppler examinations were performed with high-frequency linear array transducers. Histologic evaluation was then correlated with the sonographic findings. Twenty-five patients were referred for evaluation of possible foreign bodies. Twelve patients underwent surgery and had pathologic correlation. Sonography had sensitivity of 92% for the overall detection of foreign bodies. There were 2 false-positive findings in which discrete foreign bodies were not seen at gross inspection, but inflammation and scar tissue were present at histologic examination....

Night vision devices (NVDs) or night-vision goggles (NVGs) based on image intensifiers improve nighttime visibility and extend night operations for military and increasingly civil aviation. However, NVG imagery is not equivalent to daytime vision and impaired depth and motion perception has been noted. One potential cause of impaired perceptions of space and environmental layout is NVG halo, where bright light sources appear to be surrounded by a disc-like halo. In this study we measured the characteristics of NVG halo psychophysically and objectively and then evaluated the influence of halo on perceived environmental layout in a simulation experiment. Retrospective clinical study. To report the results of surgical correction achieved by intraoperative halo-femoral traction and posterior only pedicle screw instrumentation in severe scoliosis (scoliosis greater than 100 degrees ). Although previous reports show the effectiveness of preoperative halo traction in the treatment of severe spinal deformity, the intraoperative use of halo-femoral traction in conjunction with posterior pedicle screw instrumentation has never been reported in patients with severe spinal deformity. A total of 15 consecutive patients with severe (>100 degrees) thoracic idiopathic scoliosis and/or kyphoscoliosis operated by using intraoperative halo-femoral traction and posterior only pedicle screw instrumentation were included in the study. Subjects were analyzed by age at date of examination, gender, major coronal curve magnitude, major compensatory coronal curve magnitude, major sagittal curve magnitude, shoulder imbalance, and preoperative vital capacity of the lungs. Halo-traction related complications and short- and long-term complications were noted in each case. The average age at the time of surgery was 17.8 years (range, 16-19). There were 4 males and 11 females. The average improvement was 51% in the major thoracic curve, 33% in the compensatory lumbar curve, and 53% in the major sagittal curve. The average follow-up was 56 (range, 24-96) months. Loss of correction averaged 4 degrees for major thoracic curves and 2 degrees for thoracic kyphosis based on measurements at the final follow-up date. The use of intraoperative halo-femoral traction together with the wide facet resection and posterior release gradually provide a good correction and balance maintained by pedicle screw instrumentation. Intraoperative halo-femoral traction not only elongates spinal column but also elongates the thoracic cavity improving the compromised pulmonary function.

In a post-truth era, communication plays an important and sensitive role, related to the growing importance of social networks. In this context, social and political influencers occupy a key position, as they can have an influence not only on our purchases, but also on the way we think and act. In fact, moral judgments can be affected by different variables, both moral and non-moral. For example, we are biased toward believing that certain characteristics of behavior or personality go together. This kind of bias can be included in what is called “Halo eEffect,” namely the tendency to use the evaluation of unrelated aspects to make judgments about something or someone’s personality. The present study aims at assessing how non-moral aspects, such as fortuitous events or general abilities, can affect the judgment of someone’s virtues. Airway management is a crucial step in treating emergency medical conditions. Numerous complications, which can further worsen the patient's condition, can occur as a result of difficulties in airway management. The most well-known and frequently used tests for assessing the airway in emergencies are the Mallampati class and a series of abbreviated procedures, which are mnemonically called LEMON. They have a significant role in predicting difficult airway management and enabling the medical team to adequately prepare. When securing the airway, it is necessary to provide adequate equipment, monitoring and trained personnel. We discuss an implementation of a deep learning framework to gain insight into the dark matter structure formation. We investigate the impact of velocity and density field information on the construction of halo mass function through cosmological N-body simulations. In this direction, we train a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) on the initial snapshot of an only dark matter simulation to predict the halo mass that individual particles fall into at z = 0, in the halo mass range of 10.5 < log(M/M ) < 14. Our results show a negligible improvement from including the velocity in addition to the density information when considering simulations based on the standard model of cosmology (ΛCDM) with the amplitude of initial scalar perturbations As = 2 × 10−9. Next-generation surveys will provide photometric and spectroscopic data of millions to billions of galaxies with unprecedented precision. This offers a unique chance to improve our understanding of the galaxy evolution and the unresolved nature of dark matter (DM). At galaxy scales, the density distribution of DM is strongly affected by the astrophysical feedback processes, which are difficult to fully account for in classical techniques to derive mass models. In this work, we explore the capability of supervised learning algorithms to predict the DM content of galaxies from “luminous” observational-like parameters, using the public catalog of the TNG100 simulation. Bullet Cluster gives support for the existence of dark matter and can be used as an objection against MOND. Bullet cluster is however a problem also for the cold dark matter scenario. Recently several new findings challenging the halo models of galactic dark matter and suggesting that baryonic matter dominated in galaxies for about 10 Gy ago, have emerged. In this article both Bullet cluster problem and the newest findings will be discussed in TGD inspired pearls-in-necklace model assuming that galactic dark matter is in string-like objects containing galaxies along them. The gravitational field of string would automatically give rise to the constant velocity spectrum. The new findings suggest that this has not been the case for 10 Gy ago, and that bound states of galaxies and cosmic strings were formed later.

High Altitude platform station (HAPS) technology is a new technology that can perform the tasks currently handled using terrestrial and satellite systems. Anew broadband telecommunication systems has been recently proposed for provision of fixed, mobile and personal services adopting the use of high altitude platform station placed in a fixed position in the stratospheric layer at heights from 17-25 km. We provide quantitative measurements of night vision device (NVD) halos formed by light sources as a function of intensity and distance, describe a method to simulate their effects in the lab and present results from psychophysical experiments designed to analyze haloinduced errors in slope estimation. The effective halo generating potential of a point source is presumed to be a function of ambient illumination, source intensity, spectral content and distance. We designed a study to compare perceptual and objective measures of NVD halo size directly using identical laboratory conditions. ✓ Twenty-one patients with universal syndesmophytosis due to ankylosing spondylitis were identified in a consecutive series of 1578 patients with acute spine and spinal cord injuries. They were predominantly male, older than spinal cord-injured patients in general, and most were injured by falls. Approximately one-half were managed by halo-vest immobilization alone with good clinical and radiological outcomes. The remainder required surgery either for recurrent dislocation or for spinal cord compression associated with neurological deterioration. Este artigo trata da presença do design de diversas formas na concepção das narrativas transmídias, para tal foram analisados produtos midiáticos que serviram como expansores do universo da franquia Halo. Este estudo propõe um olhar sobre o design que apesar de citado, é pouco explorado no meio do estudo das narrativas. Halo é um universo em expansão gigantesco e isso só é possível graças a criação e apropriação de diversos apectos, tantos visuais, conceituais, afim de criar a impressão que este universo é vivo e funcional mesmo quando as suas mídias não são acessadas diretamente. Para isso temos então a noção de overdesign conceito que fomenta o design como gerador diegético para estes mundos, dando a noção de que são reais quando entram em contato com o público através de suas extensões.
