El objeto de esta investigación es llevar a cabo una breve reflexión sobre la realidad específica del árabe como lengua de una religión y aplicarla tanto a la teorización del árabe en su función de lengua de adquisición y al mismo proceso de adquisición. A su vez, se pretende que las consideraciones resultantes sirvan para orientar las traducciones del y al árabe.

The quranic Noah narratives provide a fascinating window into the making of Muhammad as an eschatological prophet. This book examines their form, content, and sources as a means of deciphering the scribal and intertextual nature of the Qur'an and the Jewish-Christian background of the messianic controversy out of which Islam emerged. The view that Muhammad was once tentatively though of as a new Messiah challenges our picture of Islam's origins.

The Arabic graffiti of the early decades of Islam, in Arabia and in the Middle East, represent an inexhaustible source of information on the origins of Muslim society. Recent discoveries have revealed that among thousands of graffiti written by anonymous people some few inscriptions are mentioning the names of famous and well-known persons. Among them we find some caliphs who were the direct successors of the prophet Muḥammad like ʿUmar b. al-Ḫaṭṭāb and ʿUṯmān b. ʿAffān. Among the inscribers, we also have mentions of some Umayyad rulers and princes who left their names on the stones, as well as famous companions from the first generations of scholars who reported some traditions from the prophet. These texts are showing that Islamic graffiti are not only religious texts but they also have an historical and political weight particularly when we consider that some of them were engraved just before or during the first civil war (fitna).

Resumen: La metáfora del camello que pasa por el ojo de la aguja se encuentra en los Evangelios Sinópticos (Mt 19,24; Mc 10,25; Lc 18,25) y en el Corán (7,40). Los Evangelios parecen sugerir que es más fácil que un camello pase por el ojo de una aguja, que un rico entre en el Reino de los Cielos. El Corán, por otra parte, ubica la metáfora en el contexto de los no-creyentes, que son arrogantes (istakbarū) con respecto a los signos de Dios. En un primer momento, parecería que los contextos del pasaje en el Evangelio y en el Corán son diferentes; sin embargo, analizando más de cerca las palabras clave, se pueden extraer paralelos textuales de ambos textos, que van más allá de la simple utilización de esta analogía en común, como lo pensaron algunos especialistas anteriores. Por ejemplo, el rico en los Evangelios pregunta cómo heredar la vida eterna, mientras que el Corán también discute la vida eterna y la herencia en el mismo contexto. Este y otros varios paralelos textuales sugieren que el Corán está aludiendo al mismo contexto de la metáfora en los Evangelios.

هذه الدراسة هنا لتُسلِّط الضوء ليس فقط على التراجم الأسبانية حصراََ، وإنما لتنقل صورة مشكلة التراجم تنويهاً لأرجحية المشكلة ومطالبةََ بإنقاذ الوضع المتردي الذي وصل اليه النشر القرآني، خاصة في عصر العولة والشبكة العنكبوتية ومواقع التواصل وتغلغل الاسلام الى أعمق أفجاج الارض والحمدلله.

أُنزِلَ القرآن عَربياََ، فصيحاََ ببلاغةٍ وإِحكامٍ لا مُقارِنَ له، قال فيه، تباركَ إسمُه ﴿وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْ‌آنًا أَعْجَمِيًّا لَّقَالُوا لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ ۖ أَأَعْجَمِيٌّ وَعَرَ‌بِيٌّ ۗ قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا هُدًى وَشِفَاءٌ ۖ وَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ فِي آذَانِهِمْ وَقْرٌ‌ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَمًى ۚ أُولَـٰئِكَ يُنَادَوْنَ مِن مَّكَانٍ بَعِيدٍ﴾ [فصلت ٤٤]؛ ولإنما اللاعجاز لم يقتصر على القول، بل وذهب الى التحدي، ليُقسِم به رب العزة والجلال بإستحالة أن يأتي بمثله الإنس والجن مجتمعين بقولهِ جلّت صفاتُه  ﴿قُل لَّئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْإِنسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَىٰ أَن يَأْتُوا بِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا الْقُرْ‌آنِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَهِيرً‌ا﴾ [الإسراء ٨٨]. ومن هنا فترجمة القرآن، أو ما عُرِف بتفسير معاني القرآن لهو في حدّ ذاته مُعجزة على البشر، غير ممكن الإرتقاء به من فرد ولا بضع من البشر ﴿…لَّئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْإِنسُ وَالْجِنُّ…﴾ أي اننا لنتفق مطلقا على أن الإتيان بمثل القرآن بلاغةً وبأيّ لغة كانت، من قِبل أي مترجم، لهو ليس باﻷمر المستحيل فقط، وإنما هو تكهن غير مقبول ولا يجوز السماح له. لكن الغاية من التفسير تبتغي على الاقل نقل الصورة القرآنية لعقول المتلقي بلغةٍ أخرى يُفهَمُ فحواها على أحسن حال، بتضحية بلاغية، لكن بدون تنازل عن حكم النصوص، وإلّا صار تحريفاً، وهو ما جئنا إليه.

This paper suggests that 6th-century Yemenite Christianity should be taken into consideration as a relevant, if hitherto often neglected, factor that may help to explain both the emergence of Islam and its South-Arabian component. It also explores the extent to which the interactions between the Christians and the Jews of pre-Islamic Yemen may be said to be of especial relevance to understand the Christology of the Qur’ān. Lastly, it contends that this represents a better approach to deciphering the Jewish and Christian roots of emergent Islam than the hypothesis of a “Jewish-Christian” influence upon the latter.

The Quranic text may be construed as a palimpsest with regard to those scriptural and para-scriptural writings of Jewish and Christian provenance previously known to, and used in, the ‘sectarian milieu’ from within which the Islamic religion gradually emerged. In this paper I examine the parallels that can be drawn between chs. 21–2 of ApAb, in which Abraham is given a vision of how the earth was created and of the fate of each human group according to their faith and deeds, and vv. 1-56 of sūrat al-wāqi‘a (Q 56), which provide an apocalyptic vision of the earth and its inhabitants in the end of time that reframes the spatial, numerical, and axiological distinctions displayed in ApAb 21–2. Then I go on to show that ApAb 21–2 may have played (together with Rom 4 and/or Gal 3) a prominent role in the founding myth of Islam, which, I shall argue, is to be regarded – just like its (post-Pauline) Christian counterpart – as a supersessionist myth.

"This paper results from the reassement of all the verses in the Koran mentioning the word water, as well as of those showing a terminological or conceptual relationship with this element, though not referring to it explicitly. Of the main fields of ritual, eschatology and cosmogony which convey an interest in water, our major concern will be the third one. Dealing with these crucial Islamic aspects from the point of view of cosmogony requires the research of the presence of water at the beginning of Creation and its relationship with God, its role in the origin of life and animals, as well as in human beginnings.

El artículo es el resultado de una  revisión de todos los pasajes del Corán en los que aparece la palabra agua así como de los principales pasajes que tienen relación terminológica o conceptual con el agua aunque no utilicen esa misma palabra.  De los tres ámbitos que resultan de dicha revisión (ritual, escatología y cosmogonía),  el de mayor trascendencia y alcance simbólico e ideológico es el tercero, por lo que es el objetivo específico del artículo. Se abordan los principales aspectos de la cosmogonía islámica del agua: desde la presencia del agua en el inicio de la creación y su relación con Dios, hasta su papel en el origen del hombre pasando por su función en el origen de la vida y la creación de los animales.

In recent decades the Qur'an has been the subject of increasing interest among scholars in the Muslim world as well as in the West. One of the most important issues raised by researchers pertains to its textualization –that is, how the Qur'an was transformed from oral tradition into the written text as we have it today; how the Revelation was received and recorded, circulated and passed down from generation to generation, in both the ancient way of memorization and through the methods of reading and writing, as rigorously and accurately as it should be. Although initially the contents of the Qur'an were widely distributed in the memories of men (i.e. the Prophet and his Companions), they were also written down piecemeal on various materials. The compilation and codification of the Qur'an was accomplished under the authority of Caliph Abu Bakr, and the standard codex (al-mushaf al-imâm) was produced during the Caliphate of Utsman in order to bring consensus among the Muslim community both with regard to recitation and orthography (al-Rasm al-'Uthmâni). Given its paramount importance in Islam, the history of Qur'anic text will remain of perennial interest to both Muslim and non-Muslim researchers as it could be manipulated, distorted or exploited by those pursuing their own goals for polemical or political reasons. The present article addresses such concerns with a view to separating the wheat from the chaff in the textual history of the Qur'an.

The Qur’ān is often interpreted as displaying a twofold contradictory attitude towards Christianity that oscillates between its approval and its dismissal, as shown by its many pro- and anti-Christian texts, respectively. But rather than just two there are four types of such texts in the Qur’ān: Christian formulas (often with anti-Jewish and anti-pagan overtones), pro-Christian compromise formulas, anti-Christian polemical formulas, and anti-Christian (as well as anti-Jewish) supersessionist formulas. How should these be studied? Did Muḥammad try to get theological support from some Christian group or groups, but then distanced himself from them when they rejected his teachings? This paper offers an alternative hypothesis, according to which these formulas witness to the gradual making of Islam between the 610s and the 710s. It also explores the way in which Jesus messiahship was tentatively replaced by Muḥammad’s messiahship and examines whether he and/or the anonymous quranic prophet was already identified – like Jesus – with the apocalyptic Son of Man.

Suele pensarse que el Corán despliega una doble y contradictoria actitud —a la vez favorable y desfavorable— hacia el cristianismo. Pero el Corán no contiene únicamente dos tipos de textos de esta índole, sino cuatro: (1) fórmulas cristianas (a menudo con un cariz antijudío); (2) fórmulas procristianas que ponen de relieve, por tanto, una cierta actitud de compromiso hacia el cristianismo; (3) fórmulas anticristianas de estilo polémico; y (4) fórmulas sustitutorias cuyo objeto se diría que es remplazar al cristianismo y al judaísmo mediante algo nuevo y distinto. Ahora bien, ¿cómo estudiar tales fórmulas? ¿Buscó Mahoma el respaldo de ciertos grupos cristianos distanciándose luego de éstos al rechazar ellos sus enseñanzas? El presente artículo plantea una hipótesis diferente, según la cual tales fórmulas dan testimonio del surgimiento gradual del islam entre 610 y 710. Y explora asimismo el modo en que Jesús fue parcialmente sustituido entonces por Mahoma en calidad de nuevo mesías, analizando a tal fin diversos textos que sugieren que este último, al igual quizá que ya antes el profeta anónimo del Corán, fue identificado —como también Jesús— con el Hijo del Hombre de la tradición apocalíptica.

Queremos acercarnos a un texto aljamiado-morisco desde una perspectiva hermenéutica, en dos vertientes: por un lado, el análisis pragmático de los elementos que constituyen el mensaje islámico explícito, la controversia islamo-cristiana implícita, así como la aplicación del análisis pragmático a un texto histórico, de una minoría marginada y con un fuerte interés socio-antropológico (aspectos lingüístico-semánticos); por otro lado, determinar los mecanismos formales de transmisión de la información haciendo relevantes los contenidos islámicos en una lengua romance con peligro de cristianizar dicho mensaje (aspectos lingüístico-materiales). Así, partiendo de la filosofía del lenguaje y de la determinación del significado, en este caso, el significado religioso (metafísico), se llegará a la concreción de los aspectos pragmáticos (significativos) que el texto desprende. El fin de este análisis es delimitar la "islamicidad" de la comunidad morisca, y en concreto, cómo se dispone el discurso formal a la luz de unas estructuras cognitivas comunes a dicha comunidad.

Religious identity making builds upon a number of peculiar power/knowledge strategies that tend both to emphasise distinctiveness as the outcome of an exceptional founding event and to heighten a group’s sense of uniqueness and stability. Selective remembering of the past, mythical and hyperbolic reworking of elusive historical data, ethnic and genealogical self-legitimation, artificial distinction between sameness and otherness and more or less systematic historisation of dogma conspire to inscribe religious renewal as divinely sanctioned rather than politically achieved due to more mundane reasons – and thus contribute to (re)present self-identity as an unproblematic notion. Likewise adaptation of previous textual materials in a polemical fashion often plays a particularly significant role therein and stands as a means to obliquely but effectively enhance identity claims. My purpose here is to briefly analyse one of such strategies, namely Paul’s Abrahamic argument in Romans 4 and Galatians 3, and to examine the different ways in which it was polemically reworked, reshaped and reframed in post-70 Judaism, early Christianity and proto-Islam so as to create, validate and strengthen religious in-group/out-group discourse.

En la actividad traductora existen unas reglas generales que, en la práctica, dan lugar a soluciones diferentes a tenor de los textos y de las situaciones. Éste es el espacio donde las capacidades y habilidades del traductor aparecen en toda su dimensión con objeto de lograr una traducción que sea capaz de incluir todos los significados que se hallan en el original. Desde esta premisa, la traducción del Corán necesita de unos procedimientos específicos, atendiendo a la transcendencia de sus contenidos y a la belleza literaria de sus continentes. Ni unos ni otros admiten ser deslindados en el momento de ser traducidos; y ello siempre en la medida de lo posible.
Por esta razón, quien desee traducir los versículos coránicos, ya sea una parte o su totalidad, deberá elegir los medios adecuados para tal fin. En este caso, uno de esos medios está constituido por la exégesis coránica en árabe. En esta exégesis, hay indicaciones esclarecedoras y explicaciones indispensables sobre las palabras, frases y expresiones que configuran los versículos del Corán. Ninguna traducción puede ser realizada sin entender plenamente el original y apreciar su realidad única en relación con otros textos. La razón principal de los errores y equivocaciones en la traducción del Corán provienen de la no comprensión o de la mala comprensión del texto original. La exégesis coránica en árabe proporciona un instrumento primordial para la comprensión del propio Corán y ayuda a evitar los errores y las equivocaciones en su traducción.

The roll of the Qur’anic exegesis in Qur’an
In translation work there are general rules that turn into various translation solutions in praxis depending on specific situations and texts. This is the space where the translator’s capabilities and skills appear properly to do a successful translation including all of the meanings we can find in the original.  With this in mind, the translation of Qur’an’s meanings needs to concrete procedures on the basis of the importance of the contents and the literary beauty of the continents, both couldn’t be separated at the time of translation as far as possible. Therefore, who wants to do the translation of all the Qur’anic verses or some of them has to choose the suitable means. In this case, one of those means is the Muslim Qur’anic exegesis in Arabic. In this exegesis, there are significances and explanations about the words, phrases and utterances which set up the Qur’anic verses. Not translation is possible without understanding the original and appreciating its single reality before. The main reason of the failures in the translation of the Qur’anic contents is because they are misunderstood. The Muslim Qur’anic exegesis in Arabic enhances to understand the Qur’an’s text and provides utilities to avoid the failures in its translation.

This article is aimed at improving our present understanding of two questions that are in much need of attention: on the one hand, the method, contents, and significance of ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq Ibn ʿAṭiyya’s (Granada, d. 541/1147) commentary of the Coran, and the  circulation of Muʿtazili doctrines in al-Andalus, on the other. To that end, we first present a review of available information about the author and his al-Muḥarrar al-wajīz (i.e. the title of the commentary). Subsequently we discuss the contents of a relevant publication on Ibn ʿAṭiyya’s exegetical method by the Egyptian expert in Islamic theology ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ʿAbd al-Wahhāb Fāʾid. In the third chapter of his Manhaŷ Ibn ʿAṭiyya fī tafsīr al-Qurʾān al-karīm, ʿAbd al-Wahhāb Fāʾid analyses a number of accusations of Muʿtazilism levelled against Ibn ʿAṭiyya by some well-known Muslim scholars after his death (although the accusations may already have emerged in Ibn ʿAṭiyya’s lifetime) and wonders whether they resist a comparison with the theological doctrines Ibn ʿAṭiyya presented and discussed in his Muḥarrar. Though the publication of ʿAbd alWahhāb Fāʾid’s monography is not recent (1973), to the best of our knowledge, it has not found echo among students of either Muʿtazilism, heresy or the development of Coranic sciences in al-Andalus.

The only scientific paradigm that Western scholars have created for Islam and its culture is orientalism, but this paradigm has certain shortcomings, particularly regarding the understanding of terms in Arabic and its translation in European languages. This deficiency is most evident when we talk about the studies on the Qur'ān. The article addressed some of the issues relating to the translation of the Quranic texts into Western languages. Likewise, the article presented how this understanding and translation constitute a fundamental element in creating and developing theories—whether orientalist or not— about any Arabic, Islamic or oriental topic. With this objective in mind, the article has used an example taken from the Encyclopaedia of the Qur'ān by Brill publishers in Holland and compiled by Georgetown University in Washington. It showed Islamic terminology that could be considered orientalist. In addition, the article attempts to demonstrate the existence of a bibliographical gap in such an important topic, as the treatment and translation of Islamic terminology and, in particular, of the Koranic terminology, above all within the framework of orientalist studies.

El Corán, libro sagrado del Islam, proporciona, tanto por su estructura como por su temática, una gran cantidad de material fraseológico y paremiológico; que, de hecho, constituye una parte importante de los actos de habla entre los arabófonos y, también, entre hablantes de otras lenguas de cultura islámica. El propio Corán es consciente de este potencial de fraseología y paremiología, y así lo señala en su propio texto. El uso de los versículos coránicos, aya pl. ayat, en tanto que unidades fraseológicas o paremias, está sometido a ciertas restricciones, algunas de ellas estructurales y otras de tipo filosófico. Incluso así, existen ocasiones en las que es posible, desde el punto de vista linguístico , trangredir algunas de estas restricciones. El conocimiento de las unidades fraseológicas y las posibles paremias del Corán constituye un elemento muy rentable a la hora de enseñar y aprender la lengua árabe.

The Koran, the sacred Book of Islam, provides, not only because of its structure but also because its subject matter, a great amount of phraseological and paremiological material which constitutes, in fact, an important part of the speech acts in the interaction among native Arabic speakers, and, also among speakers of other languages within the Islamic culture. The Koran itself states in its own text that the Book has a potential of phraseology and paremiology. The use of Koranic verse, aya plural ayat, when they are phraseological units or paremias has certain constraints, some of these are structural constraints and others ideological ones. Even so, there are cases in which it is possible, from a linguistic point of view, to break some of these constraints. A good knowledge of the phraseological units and the possible paremias in the Koran is an asset either to teach or to learn the Arabic language.

RESUMEN El paradigma orientalista ha sido, hasta el momento, la única fórmula que Occidente ha perfilado para la recepción del Islam. Ello condiciona el conocimiento que se tiene de su realidad ideológica y de civilización. Y también, por supuesto, la traducción de los textos autoritativos del Islam, en particular el Corán. En estas condiciones, la asunción de los presupuestos orientalistas puede llevar no a la traducción de dichos textos, sino a su des-traducción, en el sentido de sustituir el significado real de los textos originales por el significado que el traductor de dichos textos (en especial el Corán) pretende darles con base en sus propias creencias y elucubraciones. Esta des-traducción se observa en el caso del término coránico amr, en el contexto de un estudio de marcado carácter orientalista. ABSTRACT The orientalist paradigm has been, up to the present moment, the only pattern that western society has adopted for the reception of Islam. That determines the knowledge that the West has of the Islamic ideological reality and civilisation. Furthermore, it also determines the translation of the authoritative Islamic texts, particularly the case of the Koran. In this sense, what is assumed about the orientalist ideas may lead to the not translating of those texts but to their dis-translation. In the sense that the real meaning of those original texts might be sometimes modified by the translators' own beliefs and their lucrubrations. This can be observed in many instances with the Koranic term amr (subject or command), in the context of a study with a strong orientalist approach. SUMARIO: 1. Alrededor de 1 900 000 000 de personas en el mundo son musulmanas, es decir, alrededor de un 24% de la población mundial toma el Corán como un libro sagrado. Además de su evidente relevancia religiosa, este libro también destaca en tanto que fuente histórica antigua, ya que su producción se remonta al siglo VII. Por ello, se presenta un estudio sobre dos traducciones de la azora 112 del Corán.
El estudio constará de un marco teórico donde profundizaré acerca de la
estructura, contenido e importancia del Corán, así como las traducciones y técnicas de traducción que se han empleado (de forma general) en el libro, además de un breve análisis de la azora que nos ocupa. Posteriormente, se incluirá el texto origen de la azora y dos traducciones que he escogido: la de Julio Cortés, Juan Vernet y Muhammad Hamidullah, a lo que se sumará un análisis comparativo desde el ámbito traductológico.

Un corpus digitalizado compuesto de más de 200 documentos oficiales difundidos por al-Qaeda en el Magreb Islámico (AQMI) entre 2004 –cuando todavía se denominaba Grupo Salafista para la Predicación y el Combate (GSPC)– y 2017 permite dar una respuesta fundamentada a la pregunta de cuán religioso es realmente su discurso. Asimismo, a través del cotejo sistemático de la totalidad de las citas coránicas mapeadas –más de 1.200– se constata que, aunque la organización en ningún caso modifica o altera el Corán, lo que permite desechar por completo las tesis que apuntan hacia la manipulación de los textos sagrados, sí se caracteriza por utilizar una literalidad a medida. No enfrentando constricción alguna ni en tiempo ni en espacio, en más de la mitad de las ocasiones en las que, a lo largo de 14 años, AQMI cita el Corán en su propaganda –un 52,42% del total– lo hace evocando citas incompletas o truncadas.
