O objetivo desta aula é discutir a distinção de classes verbais em português brasileiro. É muito comum utilizarmos como classificação verbal critérios sintáticos, tais como transitividade e possibilidades de alternância (ver, por exemplo, Cançado, Godoy e Amaral 2013). Não é comum, entretanto, o debate acerca das classes verbais de acordo com aspectos semânticos. A proposta desta aula é axatamente preencher essa lacuna. A primeira parte da aula enfocará a descrição das classes verbais tais como ela é apresentada na literatura para línguas mais bem descritas, como o inglês (Vendler 1957, Verkuyl 1996, Krifka 1998, Rothstein 2004, 2008). A segunda parte discutirá a pertinência dos testes apresentados na literatura tradicional para a classificação dos verbos em português.
