The Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of Indonesia has introduced several national and international indexers of scientific works. This policy becomes a guideline for lecturers and researchers in choosing the reputable publications. This study aimed to describe the understanding level of Indonesian lecturers related to indexing databases, i.e. SINTA, DOAJ, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. This research used descriptive design and survey method. The populations in this study were Indonesian lecturers and researchers. The primary data were obtained from a questionnaire filled by 316 lecturers and researchers from 33 Provinces in Indonesia recruited with convenience sampling technique on October-November 2017. The data analysis was performed using frequency distribution tables, cross tabulation and descriptive analysis. Η µέτρηση του αντίκτυπου των επιστηµονικών δηµοσιεύσεων έχει µεγάλη σηµασία για επιστήµονες, ερευνητικές οµάδες και ακαδηµαϊκά ιδρύµατα. Η αξιολόγηση της ερευνητικής δραστηριότητας συνδέεται µε την ολοένα αυξανόµενη απαίτηση για λογοδοσία σε όλους τους τοµείς του δηµόσιου τοµέα (1). Παραδοσιακά, η απήχηση της έρευνας υπολογίζεται µε βιβλιοµετρικούς δείκτες που βασίζονται στην ανάλυση ετεροαναφορών και χρησιµοποιούνται για να µετρήσουν τον αντίκτυπο άρθρων (2,3), περιοδικών (4), ερευνητών (5-7) και ολόκληρων επιστηµονικών πεδίων (8,9). Ωστόσο, η εγκυρότητα και αξιοπιστία αυτών των δεικτών έχει αµφισβητηθεί έντονα (10, 12-15). Ένα βασικό πρόβληµα είναι ότι δεν δίνουν καµιά πληροφορία για τον αντίκτυπο της έρευνας εκτός ακαδηµαϊκού χώρου, σε οµάδες όπως οι φοιτητές, οι επαγγελµατίες, οι υπεύθυνοι για την χάραξη πολιτικής, ακόµα και το ευρύ κοινό (16). Σε µια προσπάθεια να αντιµετωπιστούν κάποια από αυτά τα προβλήµατα, έχουν αναπτυχθεί µια ποικιλία διαφορετικών δεικτών (17), ενώ ο παγκόσµιος ιστός προσφέρει νέες δυνατότητες και καθιστά δυνατή την ανάπτυξη των Webmetrics ή Cybermentrics, ενός νέου κλάδου της βιβλιοµετρίας, που αναλύει ποσοτικά τη δραστηριότητα στο διαδίκτυο (18). Κι αυτές οι νέες τεχνικές όµως έχουν όρια και δεν µπορούν να καταγράψουν τον πραγµατικό αντίκτυπο κάθε επιστηµονικής προσπάθειας. Για παράδειγµα, τα Webometrics «επηρεάζονται από τη διανεµηµένη, διαφοροποιηµένη και δυναµική φύση του διαδικτύου αλλά και από τις αδυναµίες των µηχανών αναζήτησης» (19, σ. 78).

The results of this study showed that the understanding of Indonesian lecturers and researchers regarding publications in indexing databases SINTA, DOAJ, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar is that, on average, 66,5% have known about SINTA, DOAJ, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. However, based on empirical frequency 76% of them have never published with journals or proceedings indexed in Scopus.
